A number of years back my wife and I attended a 60's night where we dressed like we were in high school again. I wore my jeans with rolled up cuffs and a white t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, white socks and loafers. I got to grease up my hair, but didn't quite have enough for a duck tail. She tried to find a poodle skirt, but had to settle for one without the dog – but she did get the bobby socks. It was fun pretending we were kids again for the evening but when it was over the next day we were back to the world of work, kids, bills and mortgages.
Sometimes pretending gives us a break from our lives. We pretend we can still play baseball like we did when we were younger. Sometimes our bodies tell us that we can't... but we still have fun doing it.
Why I can even sit in my garage and pretend that I am car. I can make cars sounds and keep telling myself and everyone else that I am a old super stock Dodge – but that doesn't make me one. Knowing the difference between reality and fantasy keeps me from doing too many stupid things.
Flip Wilson and Milton Berle had fun on their comedy shows dressing like a women and they made people laugh. Drag shows where men dress up as women aren't quite as good clean fun, but the performers still know they are men and not women. As strange as some of this is, these people have not completely crossed the line from reality to fantasy.
Some men believe they can become women – some women even believe they can become men. Anyone with a basic knowledge of biology understands that women have XX chromosomes and men have XY. Whatever physical mutilation is done to the body will not change this. And we have a female Supreme Court justice who cannot tell us what is a woman. There are many who reside in the hallowed halls of academia whose political views will not allow them to admit that a man cannot become a woman and that men cannot have babies.
This whole madness is multiplied when people suffering from such delusions of gender, along, with socialist academic supporters insist that the rest of society takes part in their break from reality. Not only do they choose to assign inaccurate pronouns to themselves but the expect the rest of us to participate as well.
Returning to an earlier illustration, if I actually thought I was a car, or if I actually believed I was Superman or Napoleon, I would be hustled off the streets and into a place where I could receive help returning to reality – or at least would not be in such a place to cause harm to myself or those around me. However this does not happen when the mental issues find you in a “protected class”. People have lost their jobs and faced many forms isolation for simply telling the truth.
It's bad enough that now we have some states that permit teenage boys into girls locker rooms before endangering the young women on the athletic field or court. On the other hand, it is kind of amusing watching the leaders of the WNBA try to extricate themselves from the corner they have painted themselves into as retired NBA stars want to join their league.
If we really were to follow this thinking that allowing someone to identify as something they are not, we open a whole new can of worms as we consider the law of unexpected consequences. Should the man who identifies as a twelve year old be permitted to hang out with middle school girls? Or if some guy says he is attracted to young boys, are we to just allow him to follow the role he is creating for himself?
As GK Chesterton is quoted, “morality, like art, consists of drawing a line somewhere.” At least, for now, pedophilia is on the negative side of the line even though many in academia and the left in general are trying to move the line.
Many believe the left is purposefully attempting to destroy the basic family unit. Perhaps it is because more than a few don't really fit into normal relationships. It could even be more sinister as some have spoken of destroying the American culture by attack the traditional family unit.
Many are thinking they are just trying to do something new. For them, I hate to tell them, that all the things we see to day are just a rehash of ideas that have been tried in the past and failed miserably. Reassignment surgeries have their first attempts in the 1930s in Nazi Germany. The human guinea pig did not survive the second round of surgery... but it was a start.
Unfortunately we can't just pat them on the head and let them go about their deviant ways, because they are insistent upon dragging us along with them.
Romans 1:22-25 (ESV) tells us, “Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.”
Another part of Romans tells us we should submit to earthly authorities for they are ordained by God for our good – to keep us safe. However, when Peter and John were brought before the Sanhedrin and instructed not to preach about Jesus, Acts 4:19-20 (ESV) tells us “But Peter and John answered them, 'Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.'”
When there is a conflict between the laws of man and the laws of the Creator, there is only one resolution.
Yes we are given free will, and, legally, much of what is going on is protected by an errant government. Yet is is not without consequence. Charles Spurgeon told us, “Free will carried many a soul to hell, but never a soul to heaven.”
Choose wisely.
