Common Ground… with Wrong?

Posted by Larry Miller on March 6, 2011 under How | Read the First Comment

obamaconstPresident Obama says he wants to find common ground with the GOP as they look for a way to solve the budget impasse. He has this fantasy that there is a common ground between his spendthrift policies and the teaparty inspired push for fiscal restraint and respect for the taxpayers. The sad fact is that some of the old timers in the Republican Party also believe this is possible.

One has to consider if there is really a common ground between wisdom and foolishness… sanity and insanity… right and wrong that is not foolish, insane or wrong in itself. In the quest to be seen as reasonable, many of our congressmen and senators who give really great campaign speeches, act like compromise is the way to get things done. Unfortunately, it is… but not what the people need.

If something is wrong, like spending money we don’t have, and charging it to to generations not yet born, putting us in debt to people who don’t like us and giving it to, among others, people who have sneaked into our country illegally… then what justification is there for a compromise of any kind? If giving a hundred million dollars to Planned Parenthood to facilitate the killing of babies is wrong… is not giving them fifty million dollars wrong as well. Read more of this article »

Has CPAC Run It’s Course?

Posted by Larry Miller on February 16, 2011 under Why | Be the First to Comment

realmenThe recent CPAC conference in the nation’s capitol made a brief splash and now it’s gone. Many opponents of the President’s policies were present to stir the crowd with firey rhetoric heard from few elected public servants anywhere, and even fewer inside the beltway. It was, perhaps, cathartic for those who attended. And many attended… but many did not.

The newly influential presence of the group that bills itself as “homosexual conservative” was a stumbling block to many. A great many well known political figures skipped this year’s event because of the highly visible involvement of GOProud.

Objections came on two levels. The first, and the one most expected, was based on the concept that homosexuality is wrong, as described in various scriptures, such as Leviticus 20:13 “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” (NIV) Read more of this article »

WHAT IS MAN…?

humanismGod asks – and answers:

HUMAN DEFINED: EARTH’S CHOICEMAKER

by James Fletcher Baxter

The way we define ‘human’ determines our view of self, others, relationships, institutions, life, and future. Many problems in human experience are the result of false and inaccurate definitions of humankind premised in man-made religions and humanistic philosophies.

Human knowledge is a fraction of the whole universe. The balance is a vast void of human ignorance. Human reason cannot fully function in such a void; thus, the intellect can rise no higher than the criteria by which it perceives and measures values.

Humanism makes man his own standard of measure. However, as with all measuring systems, a standard must be greater than the value measured. Based on preponderant ignorance and an egocentric carnal nature, humanism demotes reason to the simpleton task of excuse-making in behalf of the rule of appetites, desires, feelings, emotions, – and glands. A Recycled George Allen

Posted by Larry Miller on February 9, 2011 under Why | Be the First to Comment

george-allenMy first experience with George Allen came a few years after I escaped from Sopranoland and arrived in the Old Dominion. He was a one term congressman who had just been redistricted out of his seat by the partisan Democrat machine that ruled the commonwealth with an iron fist in those dark, dreary days. He was a young and hungry politician eager to press the flesh and meet the people.

He was running for governor in the early days of 1993 eagerly seeking people to join his “A-Team” as he ran on a “Jeffersonian conservative” platform that included keeping bad actors off the streets longer through the abolition of parole and a generally more efficient government in Richmond. My teenage daughter spent time working at his campaign headquarters and was thrilled when he came around and chatted with those volunteering their time on his behalf.

Much to the chagrin of the entrenched Democrat establishment, Allen won and took up residency in the Governor’s Mansion. He kept his promise to restore truth in sentencing and end the practice of paroling violent criminals long before their time was served. He even went further and made the Department of Motor Vehicles a functioning part of Virginia government. Many other accomplishments marked his time in office, which was ended by term limits, and the citizens were indeed better off for George Allen having served. Read more of this article »

Mind Your Own Business!

Posted by Alexis Wallace on February 8, 2011 under How | 3 Comments to Read

mubarak“Minding your own business” works best on a personal and national basis when you clearly define what your “business” is.

The national reality of this statement is now clearly seen in the volatile and crisis state of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Last month riots erupted against the 30 year governance of President Hosni Sayyid Mubarak. This is a presidency that he assumed since the October 14, 1981, assassination of President Anwar El Sadat.

According to the BBC, Mubarak has survived six assassination attempts, so opposition to his leadership is not a new issue for him. However, this latest uprising of his people is probably the greatest threat yet to his presidency.

British historian Lord Ashton once said that “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad man.” Many may say that this statement so aptly describes President Mubarak and why change must come to his nation. Read more of this article »

State-Owned Churches Are Killing America

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on February 7, 2011 under How | 3 Comments to Read

churchAmerica was birthed in the spirit of liberty and baptized in the blood of patriots and tyrants. Leading the charge in America’s fight for independence was a courageous group of patriot-preachers that came to be known as the “Black Regiment.” I have written several columns on this subject. Suffice it to say here that I invite readers to take a look at my Black Regiment web page to learn more about this early American phenomenon. There is little doubt that without these stalwart Christian pastors, this country would not have come into existence. (I extended this call for a modern-day Black Regiment 5 years before Glenn Beck ever mentioned it.)

See my Black Regiment page at:  http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?page_id=23

Plus, to read my column regarding the Black Regiment that was published in The New American magazine in 2009, go to: http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/history/american/1789

So, what did these colonial preachers have that today’s preachers don’t? The better question might be: what did these colonial preachers NOT have that today’s preachers do? The answer? Two things: 1) an IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation status, and 2) a 50-year misinterpretation of Romans chapter 13. Read more of this article »

Two Kinds Of Republicans

Posted by Larry Miller on February 6, 2011 under Why | 7 Comments to Read

goplogoNewspapers, along with TV anchors and infobabes love to tell stories of dissension within the ranks of the Republican Party. They enjoy pouring fuel on any kind of sparks, trying to fan them into a blaze that negates the effectiveness of any politician not pushing progressive Democrat values. The problem is that there is some basis for the stories about factions within the Grand Old Party.

To those on the outside, the differences may appear to be simple personality conflicts or random loyalty fights. The fact is it goes much deeper than that. There are really two distinct groups within the party. When things are going well, it’s hard to tell one from the other. However the recent electoral victories by tea party candidates have deepened these differences and peeled back the veneer of smiling faces.

The first type is the structural Republican. With these, it is a tradition and they may have been in the party all their lives. They feel a kind of proprietary interest in it. They would vote for anyone as long as they have an R by their name on the ballot and will continue to support them no matter how far they stray from party orthodoxy. Because of their party orientation, these are usually the people who show up at party functions and usually run for party offices.

Planned Parenthood Caught Offering Services to Child Human Traffickers

Washington, DC – In a recently released video, Planned Parenthood has been caught offering assistance to a man posing as a child sex trafficker in New Jersey. An office manager is caught in a private meeting with this man as he makes the nature of his business clear and details that his “clients” (victims) are either minors or illegally present in the United States.

The footage captures on camera the sinister side of Planned Parenthood, as an office manager laughs and jokes with the pimp and gives tips on how to make his business appear more “ligit.” Planned Parenthood has long contended that its purpose of existence is to protect the health and well-being of women, yet this Planned Parenthood official never reported the existence of an acknowledged child sex trafficking operation to police. Obviously, if this trafficking ring were to have been real, Planned Parenthood would have made money from aborting the babies that came as a consequence of the ring’s activities, thus directly taking advantage of these victims. Live Action is well noted as having done these kinds of undercover operations before, often exposing the horrors of abortion clinics around the country. Read more of this article »

Identifying Our Friends

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on January 31, 2011 under How | 4 Comments to Read

henryTo a packed out crowd of over 500 Montanans who had assembled in minus zero weather to hear me speak, I made the statement, “Not all Christians are our friends, and not all non-Christians are our enemies.” Indeed, being able to identify our friends is more than half the battle.

When I spoke of identifying friends or enemies, I was talking about one’s overall positive or negative contribution to the principles of liberty. I will say it again, not all Christians are our friends, and not all non-Christians are our enemies. This is difficult for many Christians to wrap their brains around, I know.

I will go one step further: in America today, claiming a new birth Christian experience means absolutely nothing when it comes to defending liberty principles. After traveling more than 60,000 miles over the past two years to virtually every crack and corner of this vast country, my studied observation is that the ratio of Christians to non-Christians who are true freedom fighters is probably no better than 50%. I will further say that often times Christians are actually greater enemies to freedom than are non-Christians. I never thought I would hear myself say that, but, today, I really believe it. Just Like The Others

Those who have been paying attention have noticed the fascination European style socialism holds for members of today’s ruling class. They admire the expensive, inefficient state run health “care” programs. They seek to unionize business out of competitive advantages like many on the continent. They simply adore the way European live revolves around the edicts and machinations of the ruling class… and they want the US to be like the Europe!

There are various reasons for this. The European people know their place. They have been bought and paid for with “free” benefits from the government. As a result, many Europeans have been weaned away from recognition of, and dependence on, their creator. Like Esau, they have given up their generous inheritance for a “free” bowl of stew. All this has turned our cousins across the sea into nations of sheep who are struggling to hold on to their culture and heritage from the onslaught of Islamic invaders with no intention of assimilating. And they want the US to be like Europe!

The ideas of individual responsibility, reward and achievement have proven too much for some. These ideas have also proven to be a hindrance to those who would rule rather than serve. A nation of sheep is easier to control than a country populated by free men and free women. Unlike our European cousins, there is still a remnant among us who remember America’s greatness and want to see it restored. They remember the uniqueness that made the USA the envy of the world – a position that many on the progressive left find most distasteful. Read more of this article »

CPAC Continues to Lose Social Conservative Groups

Washington, DC – The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) continues to loose marquee conservative groups because of its inclusion of GOProud as a cosponsor of the annual event. GOProud holds itself out as a conservative organization, but it actively promotes causes that conflict with social conservative positions, such as advocating for same-sex unions, repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, and repeal of the so-called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

In 2009, Liberty University was a scheduled cosponsor of CPAC’s 2010 event, until GOProud’s cosponsorship was announced. Liberty University sent a letter to CPAC signed by 45 organizations which theretofore supported CPAC. The letter urged CPAC to withdraw the cosponsorship of GOProud, stating there is a difference between being a cosponsor of a conservative event and an exhibitor or attendee. A cosponsor should not actively work to undermine the mission of another cosponsor. When the American Conservative Union, which is the primary organizer of CPAC, refused to withdraw GOProud’s cosponsorship, Liberty University withdrew its cosponsorship. This year neither Liberty University nor Liberty Counsel are participating in CPAC. The Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, Heritage Foundation, Media Research Center, and others have also withdrawn from CPAC. Read more of this article »

Best Wished For Gabrielle Giffords

Posted by Larry Miller on January 9, 2011 under Why | Read the First Comment

giffordsSaturday was a sad day in Tucson when a deranged young man peppered a US congresswoman and the crowd around her with shots from a 9mm Glock. The target, Gabrielle Giffords did not die, but others around her did, simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The shooter, Jared Loughner had a history of run ins with local law enforcement and is reported to have spent his time reading the Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf.

In spite of this history, members of the progressive left in this country were quick to blame those they fear the most – Sarah Palin and talk radio. Never mind that this troubled young man represented much that the Tea Party stands against. The accusations do, however, match the prejudices of the ruling class, who see those who stand for freedom and against the growth of governmental power as a danger to their nefarious schemes.

In a shameless display of partisan opportunism, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik complained, “I think the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business and what we see on TV and how our youngsters are being raised, that this has not become the nice United States of America that most of us grew up in. And I think it’s time that we do the soul-searching,” This, in spite of the “Ethical Decisions” emblazoned across the top of the Sheriff’s official web site beginning with, “Am I acting out of anger, lust, greed or peer pressure” Read more of this article »

Christmas According to Marx and Lenin, by Ronald Reagan

reagan1Courtesy of Liberty Counsel

Orlando, FL – Between his campaign against President Gerald Ford in 1975-76 and his race against Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan delivered more than 1,000 radio broadcasts, running about three minutes each, writing nearly all of them himself. In one broadcast during the Christmas season, Mr. Reagan told a story about Christmas in the Ukraine before and after Communism.

In an effort to resist Christians, Communist leaders secularized a favorite Ukrainian Christmas carol, “Nova Radist Stala” (Joyous News Has Come to Us). The original song began with these words: “The joyous news has come which never was before. Over a cave above a manger a bright star has lit the world, where Jesus was born from a virgin maiden, …” Communists feared the public outcry that would follow a complete ban on Christmas, so they began to slowly secularize the holiday. The first rewrite of the song began: “The joyous news has come which never was before, a red star with five tails has brightly lit the world.” The second rewrite went further: “The joyous news has come which never was before. Long-awaited star of freedom lit the skies in October [the month of the Revolution]. Where formerly lived the kings and had the roots their nobles, there today with simple folks, Lenin’s glory hovers.”

The former Soviet Union eventually began banning Christmas commemorations. St. Nicholas was replaced with “Did Moroz,” or Grandfather Frost. This Stalinist creation wears a red cap and long white beard of Santa Claus, but he delivers gifts to children on New Year’s Eve. Christmas trees were also banned, but people continued to trim their New Year’s trees. Communism folded all Christmas celebrations into a New Year celebration. Read more of this article »

Ronald Reagan’s 1981 Christmas Message

Watching this video of President Reagan’s Christmas message provided me with one more reminder of how far our country has fallen. The man loved our country and our values. He encouraged us to have the same feeling about this wonderful land.

Unfortunately, we now are led by those who cannot find happiness in America. There is no sense of love of country, only a dissatisfaction born of a lust for the possessions of those who have succeeded. It is accompanied by a drive to bring as much as possible under the control of the ruling class who believe they are so much smarter than the rest of us, even though many have never really left the halls of learning to accomplish anything of value. One More Form Of Corporate Welfare

Posted by Larry Miller on December 12, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

housekeeperIt’s humorous to listen to members of the political class rail against corporate welfare. Yet the practice continues. Everyone is against using taxpayer funds (or in the case of Democrats, government funds) for the benefit of corporations whose balance sheets show tens of millions, sometimes billions of dollars in assets. Yet when you get down to what this financial hemorrhage really amounts to, what we see reveals more about the values and political debts of the politician than a real aversion to transferring public funds to private entities.

We see the President fussing and fuming about the evil Wall Street Shylocks raping the public, yet these accused merchants of misery supplied unprecedented funding for his presidential campaign. Then he provided them with the reservoir of dollars to maintain their extravagant lifestyles and has consistently pursued transferring taxpayer dollars to their accounts when things looked shaky. He found it much more important to protect the lenders than the home owners who he left on the hook when the government collapsed the housing market.

The Republicans showed no more integrity when they provided the initial bailout through TARP, although the amounts involved now look like small potatoes. Hank Paulsen and company were willing to set in motion events that threaten to bankrupt the entire country to keep the financial institutions from whence he came from suffering this dreaded fate. The Death of Dignity

Posted by Larry Miller on November 18, 2010 under How | Read the First Comment

franklIt’s been coming at us for years. Remember those old black and white movies where most of the men wore suits and ties? Beaver Cleaver came home to a mother wearing a nice dress, heels and pearls, and his dad sat around the house in a white shirt and tie. Remember when IBMers were clones in gray suits? Then, corporate offices adopted “casual Friday”… then casual every day. While I’m not a big one for coats and ties myself, I still find it annoying to find myself sitting in a nice restaurant next some guy in shorts, a tank top and flipflops. Even our own president still dresses like a community organizer while his wife often looks like her wardrobe comes from the sale rack at a thrift store.

But, these lowered standards of formality are just minor situations compared to what is now taking place in many airports around the country. Our government is forcing random citizens to parade themselves through a device where some unseen TSA agent sees more of them than if they were on a beach in the skimpiest of bikinis. Should someone have the audacity to object, the alternative is to be felt and fondled in a way that would land the writer and reader in jail were we to do it to some stranger on the street or in the office. Once again our government has taken the authority to set itself above the law it imposes on the citizens.

There have been many thoughts about this practice that is supposed to make the flying public safer and thwart the efforts of those who hate us. Interestingly, the nation that is hated even more than ours has found it unnecessary to resort to such universally obnoxious and intrusive methods. Of course the Israelis use the various intelligence apparatus they have available, but they take the logical steps of concentrating their limited resources on potential fliers who, most normal people, would find the most likely to take destructive actions. They sit them down, look them in the eyes and probe their motives rather than confiscating everyone’s toothpaste. Read more of this article »

A Suggested Survival List – Part 2

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on November 16, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

glock23[Editors note: Yesterdays article talked about preparation for disaster in the areas of location, provisions, and commodities.]

Self-Defense:

Needless to say, during any kind of disaster, your safety and protection will be completely up to you. If you really think that the police are going to be able to protect you during an upheaval, you are living in a dreamworld.

In both the New Orleans and Los Angeles disasters, police protection was non-existent. Lawless gangs quickly took control of the streets, and people were left to either defend themselves or swiftly become the helpless prey of violent marauders. In fact, in New Orleans, some of the policemen actually abandoned their oaths to uphold the law and joined with the criminals, turning their weapons upon the public.

Face it, folks: in any kind of disaster, you must be able to defend yourself, or you and your family will be meat for these animals of society that will quickly descend without mercy upon the unprepared, unsuspecting souls around them. This requires that you be armed! It also requires that you be skilled enough to be able to efficiently use your arms.

Therefore, I strongly suggest that you purchase firearms sufficient to keep you and your family safe, and also that you practice sufficiently to know how to use them. Read more of this article »

A Suggested Survival List – Part 1

food-storage-shelves1This column was initially released last June. Without a doubt, this has been one of my most requested columns. So, in response to the large number of readers who have asked me to re-release this column, I do so today. And in doing so, I have added some new material to the original column.

One does not have to be a prophet to know that we are on the precipice of some potentially catastrophic–or at the very least, challenging–days. In fact, most of us are already in challenging days, and some are already enduring catastrophic events. That is, if one would call being out of work, losing one’s home, facing life-threatening medical conditions without any prospect of medical insurance, several families being forced to live in one house due to homes being foreclosed, etc., catastrophic.

The potential for an escalation of cataclysmic events, however, is very real. Only a “blooming idiot” would call someone who attempts to prepare for “the day of adversity” a Chicken Little now. Anyone who does not see the storm clouds on the horizon isn’t paying attention. Read more of this article »

It Depends On You!

Posted by Larry Miller on November 7, 2010 under How | 2 Comments to Read

bosstweedA few days before the election received an email blast from the Republican Party of Virginia with the heading Countdown To Victory: It Depends On You!. It’s just a few days to Election Day and the people running the party are calling on the rank and file party sympathizers, the grassroots activists, many of whom are tea partiers, to do the work to keep these leaders and their selected candidates in charge and expand there power base.

If only they would exhibit such concern for the little people when it came time for candidate selection or policy formulation, many more would be out knocking on doors, waving signs, working the polls, talking to their neighbors and a whole host of other activities necessary in winning elections.

It’s sad, but so often we see people entrenched in their positions, more intent on preserving their rank than serving the people who put them there. This should not be interpreted as a rant specifically about RPV, but a general condition in many states and nationally. People in leadership and consulting positions want us to defer to their supposedly superior knowledge and wisdom in picking candidates they deem to be electable, then fall into line and lift these people to be victorious benefactors of the citizens, who are often profoundly disrespected… can anyone say Delaware? Why Do You Vote?

Posted by Larry Miller on October 25, 2010 under Why | 2 Comments to Read

davidIs your voting and other public involvement strictly a political effort in a compartmentalized political world… or is there something more to it than that? The politically correct, secularized society we live in would like to have us think that it is. They want us to believe that who we vote for, who we work to get elected and the issues we support come from a separate part of our lives from the our Sunday morning church activities. It’s a form of divide and conquer. If they can separate our political activities from our values, they can get us to do must about anything.

In the unique progressive form of intolerant tolerance, we have people who are perfectly happy to let us have our religious beliefs and practices, as long as it doesn’t interfere with their plans to manipulate and enslave us. We are expected to keep our Christian principles to ourselves, as the world is rearranged so as not to offend the Muslims who have recently arrived in our presence.

To some, voting is something they do if they have strong feelings about some issue or other… and if it isn’t too inconvenient. They don’t understand the real relationship between the individual citizen and the world around us. They have managed to fit the expectations of our society and compartmentalize their lives into discreet spheres like community, work, parenting, church life and the like. Is this as it should be? Moderation in Pursuit of Prosperity

Posted by Larry Miller on October 18, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

lindsey-graham1I recently came across someone who was proudly proclaiming himself to be a “moderate”. He went on and on about the extremists on either side. He thought the correct answer should be somewhere in the middle. He appears to be the type of guy who would suggest you split a restaurant bill proportionally, even though he got the prime rib and you got the hamburger. In fact, taking a strong position on almost anything was a foreign concept to him. He believes there is always room for compromise.

I wonder about people like him. If someone were to break into his home and try to kidnap his children, would this “moderate” seek to negotiate with his attacker to only take one of his children? I would hope that there was still enough of a man inside that shell to answer a resounding “NO!”, then beat the intruders into submission or chase them off, or possibly perforate them, with the handgun the constitution guarantees us the right to possess.

People will tell us that things do not break down that easily, that life is not as black and white as in the above example. Ronald Reagan had this to say, “They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong.” Sometimes we are faced with two choices, sometimes more, but, regardless of the number of choices, if we are to move forward, we have to commit to one path on another. It is both truthfully and appropriately said that if you hang around the middle of the road, you’ll end up as road kill. Read more of this article »

Raising the Dead

Posted by Larry Miller on October 12, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

tombstoneWhen I lived in north Jersey, long before the good citizens had the common sense to elect someone like Chris Cristie, we used to joke about the folks in Bergen County voting early and often. This was even before ACORN raised voter fraud to an art form, a mass produced art form. However, much of the technique involved resurrecting the dead, divining how they would have voted and then go into the voting booth and do it for them… or maybe they skipped most of the process and took the personal information that came with the “walkin’ around money” and followed their orders to vote for everyone with a “D” beside their name.

This sort of thing has been an open secret for years in many urban areas. Unfortunately, the ones charged with maintaining the integrity of the voting system are the very same ones who benefit from the from the dishonest practice. Far be it from me to accuse the party that controls the major densely populated centers as being corrupt. I’ll leave that for the readers to decide.

Many have decided that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. Some people are trying to do something about this. In much the same was as Ryan Buell leads several Penn State students in tracking down disembodied spirits on A&E’s Paranormal State, the folks at the Tea Party Paranormal are attempting to help these disembodied voters remain in whatever eternal destination their lives have led them to. Not A Witch!

The new Christine O’Donnell ad running in Delaware is a little different than the type of thing we are accustomed to seeing. It is a peaceful presence in a political world dominated by nasty, negative sounds and images. To be sure, going negative works or it would not be done with such annoying frequency, but not right now.

Ms. O’Donnell is in the midst of a firestorm of hostility, not just from her opponent, but from elements within her own party. The funny thing about her situation is that the more the opposition rants and raves about her imaginary faults, the larger and more loyal her cadre of followers grows. While many of us, myself included, smile every time we see Chris Christie tear the rhetorical heart of some n’er do well progressive, there is a time and place for everything. There certainly will be a time for that in her current campaign, given complete unsuitability for the position of her opponent, Cris Coons.

The press, Coons, who bills himself as “strong, progressive voice for Delaware”, party insiders and even some so-called conservative pundits have tried to label her as a kook, with some flaky ideas and a checkered past. Now just may be the time for some calm, personal assurance the Ms. O’Donnell is, indeed, just like us… disgusted with politics as usual… and wanting to return to the country they knew. What Is YOUR Bottom Line?

Posted by Larry Miller on September 29, 2010 under How | Read the First Comment

francis-schaefferIn his book, A Christian Manifesto, Francis Schaeffer wrote, “If there is no final place for civil disobedience, then the government has been made autonomous, and as such, it has been put in the place of the Living God.” This man was not a wild eyed revolutionary, but a highly respected theologian and scholar who wrote, at length, about the relationship of the Christian to the society around him. The great body of his work showed a greater concern for pleasing his creator than pleasing the people with whom he lived.

He wrote about what should be for each Christian, a decision point where he or she must make up their mind whether to submit to unjust government edicts or stand up for what is right. In the past, many believed the admonition to be a good citizen and do everything they were told to do by existing authorities was an absolute command. However, in looking at why governments are ordained by God, we see that they exist to be God’s “ministers” or “servants”.

When they demand actions that are contrary to His word, they move out from this umbrella of divine approval and the Christian must evaluate his response. Even Albert Einstein understood this when he advised, “Never do anything against conscience even if the State demands it.” However we do not build our lives on the musings of a physicist, no matter how gifted he was. Will Liberty Continue To Have A Home In America?

montana-mountainsOnly the most willingly ignorant people (most of whom are educated beyond their intelligence, as my dad used to say) would argue with the fact that the generation who founded this great country believed that God had providentially established and protected what became known as the United States of America. The public sentiments in this regard are irrefutable.

In his first inaugural address, President George Washington said, “No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States.”

In Washington’s Thanksgiving Day Address (1789), he said, “That we then may all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war.” Read more of this article »

FifeDrum2The elections of 2008 (and the early elections of 2010) produced two significant phenomena: the “Ron Paul Revolution,” and the “Tea Party Movement.” And, mark it down: both of them will have profound effects upon the upcoming November elections–and upon the 2012 elections as well. Call them what you want, however, America doesn’t need another movement; it needs a genuine revolution.

The Tea Party movement, while still a force with which to be contended, has already been diluted and compromised. The primary elections plainly reveal the reality of this fact. The high spots so far are the defeats of Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania and Bob Bennett in Utah. The low spots so far are the reelection of John McCain in Arizona and the election of Dan Coats in Indiana.

John McCain’s election, in particular, demonstrates how many conservatives and “revolutionaries” still don’t get it. If any State in the union should have an up-close-and-personal look at what we are up against, it would be the people of Arizona. After all, they are on the front lines in the fight of one of the most important battles currently being waged in our country: illegal immigration. And John McCain is one of the worst offenders in terms of facilitating and encouraging this illegal invasion. Yet the people of Arizona reelected McCain to the US Senate. (It would interesting to know how many illegal aliens voted for McCain, would it not?) Read more of this article »

The War Heats Up

Republican FightThe war for the soul of the Republican Party is heating up. Or, more appropriately, the war to give the Republican Party a soul has skipped a few steps to a new level recently. The actions of a formerly Republican senator and governor made it obvious that the retention of position and power was higher on their agenda than following and actually representing the people.

Perhaps I should not have enjoyed the spectacle of Arlen Specters’ political demise as much as I did, yet the whole sordid drama of a man leaving a party that had been so good to him over the years and still meeting the defeat he had hoped to avoid, renewed my hope that there is still some justice in the world. Now seeing the same drama taking place in Florida gives me even more hope and confidence that the founders “firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence” was not faith misplaced.

However, as much as they relied on Divine Providence, they still had to pick up arms and drive the British army from our shores. They did, however, understand that this Divine Providence would ensure their victory, even in their darkest hours. As imperfect humans, they did their best to be sure they were on the side of their creator which gave them the rights they were defending for themselves and their fellow countrymen. Whatever Happened to the Concept of Victory

Posted by Larry Miller on September 2, 2010 under How | 2 Comments to Read

parisWhen my fathers generation, the greatest generation, conquered the Axis powers, there was no question: the only goal was to defeat the enemy. There was no attempt to understand Adolph Hitler or work out an arrangement for coexistence. There was pretty much general agreement that we could and should emerge victorious.

Later, the concept of limited war took hold and our country was content to push the North Koreans back and keep them out of South Korea. We had a similar strategy in Vietnam. In this case, not only did it not work, but our country lost somewhere around fifty eight thousand precious men and women in the process.

Maybe it was guilt that came from using our technological advantage to end World War II with the atomic bomb. This is something that the left still regrets in spite of the fact that many times more Japanese would have died, not to mention American Gis, if they had to bring the war to a conclusion by invading the country. Words Have Meaning

cusackRecently actor, John Cusack tweeted, “I AM FOR A SATANIC DEATH CULT CENTER AT FOX NEWS HQ AND OUTSIDE THE OFFICES ORDICK ARMEYAND NEWT GINGRICH-and all the GOP WELFARE FREAKS” While showing a break with reality and some inarticulate expression, he is just the latest in the line of celebrities who believe their status in the world of make believe qualifies them to tell the rest of us, the little people in flyover country, how we should live and what we should believe. In sharing his wisdom, he joins the likes of Sheryl Crow who thinks we should restrict ourselves to a single block of toilet paper rather than a whole string of them… or the mental giant known as Lady Gaga.

While I have not seen much from Cusack lately, I am somewhat disturbed by the extreme nature of his remarks as he starred in one of my favorite films, Grosse Point Blank. Either he doesn’t understand the power of his words among the simple minded who hang on every word of People magazine and Entertainment Tonight interviews, or perhaps, he really would not be too upset if one of these followers would take his advice and actually try to harm some of these good people. It is instructive to observe Cusack’s hypocrisy in advocating violence against an organization like FoxNews because, to his convoluted thinking, it is promoting violence.

What is even more amazing is that people who make their living pretending to be someone they are not should be considered to have a high degree of astuteness. What does that tell us about the audience who would rather take advice from drug addled performers with pretty faces than find things out and think things through for themselves?
