One of Barack Hussein Obama’s most frequent complaints is that those pesky Republicans are placing party and politics over the good of the country. In some ways he is correct. One would have to ask what he is complaining about. He got his two trillion dollar blank check and he won’t have to bamboozle congress for more until after his defeat next year. Yet, somehow it is the Republicans fault that the economy is falling apart.

Yes, many Republicans did place party discipline and allegiance over actions they knew to be good for the country when they fell for the fearful John Boehner’s attempt to look statesmanlike by “compromising” with the administration and Harry Reid and giving the President exactly what he wanted – more money to spend and no further chance to stop it until after the people render their opinion of his presidency. I find the term “compromise” a little odd when one side gives up just about everything they fought for and the other side gets exactly what they wanted. Yet the president needs someone to blame his failure on, since it could not possibly be his policies.

This is what happens when our elected representatives place party loyalty and submission to those in leadership positions over following the wishes of those who put them in office – their bosses. How will they fair when the citizens render an opinion on their performance? Considering the fact that generic incumbents have a re-election rate percentage in the nineties and that they will usually be running against socialistic Democrats whose moral turpitude makes them completely unsuited for any kind of responsible position. Our only hope of getting through to them is through primary challenges.

So these men and women who love to be addressed as The Honorable ignored the cries of their constituents to stop the madness and leave the cap on federal spending. Then they had the audacity to give us some really lame excuses for being team players. Normally, being a team player is a good thing, but not when the team is helping to drive the country off an economic cliff.

There is a time when a patriot has the common sense to know the right thing to do and the courage to do it. Standing up against a foreign enemy is a fairly easy decision, as is, sometimes, standing up to attacks from the liberal progressive party. It is when old timers from the Washington scene who control important committee assignments, fund raising assistance and a host of other perks that make life in the nation’s capitol more livable, that some of the newcomers have trouble saying ‘no’ to their former heroes.

People who knew better – people who knew we had to stop the financial hemorrhaging, failed to get the job done because their leaders led them to believe it was the right thing to do. They showed party loyalty and voted for a bad bill. Had they stood on principle and voted for the good of the country, which is what the President said he wanted, we would have seen a good first step in getting the run away spending under control.

An opportunity was foolishly wasted and our nation is still sinking deeper into debt. We can only hope that someday common sense will take hold and we need to hope it takes hold soon!

Just a few days ago, congress had the opportunity to remove one of the thumbprints of tyranny from the lives of the American people. A vote came up in the House of Representatives that gave the body the ability to actually represent the wishes of the citizens. The vote came and went and the people, who are quickly becoming subjects, were still stuck with the mercury filled light bulbs, loved by the followers of Algore and Company. We still are being forced to have these dangerous, so our government keepers tell us, products in our homes. Hazmats in the house it would seem.

How did this happen in a branch of government supposedly run by Republicans who are supposedly looking out for the well being of the American people? It happened because ten Republicans chose to side with the progressive Democrats to send our last hope crashing down in flames. Two of these people, are from my home state of Virginia… I am so ashamed of what has come of those we were proud to see elected.

This shows that we cannot depend on party labels to insure sanity in the legislature. Although, if someone admits to being a Democrat, we can be pretty sure they will not be on the side of freedom… unless it is freedom to kill your offspring. It does show the wisdom of the saying, “Don’t listen to what people say, watch what they do.” Since politicians are a loquacious bunch, they throw a lot of words at us as a smokescreen and would like us to believe and act on those words.

When I approached one of these congressman, he was offended and said his explanation was on his congressional blog – as if I should not be intruding on his personal time and space. What this man does not realize is that EVERYTHING he and his partners in crime do impacts our personal time and space. Yet, even as a freshman, he is learning about the aristocracy of the ruling class.

Here’s the issue I was faced with: the bill would repeal the ban on incandescent light bulbs – which is something I strongly support and want to see happen. But in studying it carefully, I concluded it also contained a flaw which made it unconstitutional. It went beyond a simple repeal when it prohibited any state or local entity from imposing standards that could be met by bulbs containing mercury.

He framed it as a states rights issue. He supported the right of another government entity to impose a similar mandate on their subjects… er, citizens. It is interesting that, using conservative rhetoric, the right of a local government, be it city or state, to make such a requirement superceeded the right of the citizen to make their own decisions.

It could be argued by some that the more local entity could more closely represent the will of the people. This thinking has been dispelled more frequently than it has been upheld. While I am most sympathetic to the issue of states rights and local control, it would seem a clear and present violation of citizens rights should outweigh a potential problem. Especially when that potential problem lies only in the field of permitting additional restrictions on our basic liberties.

So where does this leave us? It leaves us with the time tested conclusion that a politician can do anything he jolly well pleases and still find a way to try to make it sound good. At the end of the day, we are still stuck with these costly and hazardous bulbs and GE is making a ton of money importing these bulbs from China.

Watching the British Gran Prix this past Sunday, I observed a microcosm of the European approach to life compared to the way we do things, at least for now, in the US of A.

Watching the British Gran Prix this past Sunday, I observed a microcosm of the European approach to life compared to the way we do things, at least for now, in the US of A. First was the tendency of the governing body to penalize and offense to its’ sensibilities, even if it is obviously due to human error… kind of like our bureaucrats in Washington – the EPA in particular.

A McLaren driven by Jenson Button had the misfortune of being waved out of the pits before a defective impact wrench could be replaced and the right front tire secured. He headed off back to the track, but got no further than the end of pit lane. His day was done, his weekend wasted, but after the race, to add insult to injury, his team was handed a major fine in some kind of European currency for unsafe release from the pit box. The good old boys from NASCAR simply make the team come back and fix the problem. That, in the highly competitive world of stock car racing, is regarded as penalty enough – if he could make it back in. It is understood that none of these professionals consciously sends out a car in unsafe condition – there is no need for official sanctions.

Then there was dust up between Filipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton as they negotiated the last few turns coming down to the checkered flag. Massa was on the outside of the left hand corner and he misjudged his position, turning down into Hamilton, destroying the right front wing on Hamilton’s car. This is not something these drivers do on purpose as carbon fiber shards to nasty things to their tires, not to mention the damage to delicate suspension components. Somehow, Hamilton was able to maintain his position and on the next turn swung out wide on exiting, forcing the other driver into the run off area.

Immediately the announcers began speculating about whether or not the stewards would penalize one or both drivers for aggressive driving. Now, driving a race car competitively is a form of controlled aggression in the first place – and there are times when even NASCAR has “invited” drivers to a meeting in the “oval office” following an altercation on the track or in the pits. While it is true that Formula One cars are far more fragile and their aristocratic pilots cannot follow the “rubbin’ is racin’” philosophy, but the micromanagement of highly competitive athletes shows an emphasis on the importance of management and control rather than on the point of the sport, which is head to head competition. It is the same impractical, gentlemanly approach that led the British invaders to line up neatly in open fields while the colonists picked them off one by one from behind trees or stone walls.

Then there was the final difference between the thinking on this side of the Atlantic and the folks on the other side. Mark Webber was gaining ground on his Renault teammate, Sebastian Vettel, the reigning World Champion. As he was about to pass, he was told to hold his position, reinforcing to him and to the world, his number two position on the team. Generally, NASCAR team owners would tell their drivers, “have at it, just don’t bend the cars”.

Most Americans don’t take kindly to enforced hierarchies, but are more inclined to believe people should have all the success they are capable off attaining. At least my hope is that most Americans still have this ethic of merit. There is, unfortunately, evidence that many who don’t or won’t have the confidence to compete or at least present themselves to be judged on their merits are loosing this sense of working for what you want and then desiring to keep it.

Most Americans tend to prefer to be seen as individuals. Europeans, who are even further into the post-Christian era, have lost there sense of who they are… even the highly paid formula one racers. They are more content to “know their place”, where we Americans have a far different view – but the people in Washington are trying to change that and more.

There are some real prayer warriors in the world, but for most, the offer to pray about a situation is an excuse to avoid the work and conflict of the Christian in society.

Many years ago, after returning to college with a number of years experience in the real world, I had the privilege of sitting through a class named “Man In God’s World”. As it turned out, this class had more impact on my world view than any event before or since. Reviewing some of the things I learned may help the reader understand why being a Christian is not a Sunday morning thing… but it colors, or should color, our view and approach to everything around us, including our interactions with society.

Using Jesus as our model, we find a life that was filled with pointing everyone to the Father and teaching spiritual values and lessons. But he did not stop there. He healed the sick, restored sight to the blind and raised the dead. He rescued a woman about to be stoned by an angry mob. He taught us how to get along with our neighbors, how to handle our money and how to relate to our government. His life and actions showed concern for every area of life, not just the afterlife.

Some Christians believe that if they go to church on Sunday and get their ticket punched, what they do the rest of the week doesn’t make that much difference… as long as it’s nothing too bad. If they don’t kill anyone, or throw widows out of their homes… they will be alright. Is this the case? Are there rules for life? Do they apply to everyone, everywhere?

Let’s think about this a little. Did the Ten Commandments really tell us things like: Thou shalt not steal… unless your really need, or want, the money? Or Thou shalt not bear false witness… unless the guy is a real stinker and you can get some out of of it? No! In a world infested with moral relativism, the real positions seem to be rather narrow minded – unaware of the times. Yet, the times are not treating us so well… are they?

However, the same creator that gave us life and granted us unalienable rights also told us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Loving our neighbor as ourselves gives us a whole new perspective on the world around us. We are not just hear to grab as much as we can for ourselves, but to create an environment where everyone can flourish.

Beyond this, the Cultural Mandate we are given at the end of the first chapter of Genesis tells us to cultivate and subdue the earth. This means we are to use it and take care of it as good stewards. There is no indication we are to become subservient to it or worship it as a competing god. Understanding all this, and taking the book of James seriously when it tells us we are to put our beliefs into action rather than merely giving them mental assent drives us to become involved in the world and society around us.

While there are some differences among us since we are not robots marching in lockstep, often our Christian faith drives us to take with sobriety the admonition to watch over the weakest among us us… which means standing up for the unborn and the aged. We look out for our neighbors, as ourselves, that their resources aren’t squandered by a profligate government. We are wary of a government that seeks to make itself the supplier of all our needs and the object of our dedication and affection. We are concerned when our school systems seem to be determined to inflict the religion of secular humanism on our children and the children of our communities while blocking any recognition of the faith upon which our country was founded. We understand that we, ourselves, are to be charitable, helping the needy, and that pushing the job off to an valueless government, paid for involuntarily by our friends and neighbors, will not fulfill our responsibilities nor will it meet the real needs of the recipients.

Some of us feel the need to pursue one area or another as we are led in our own unique directions and work out our salvation with fear and trembling. We would all do well to look into the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor executed for speaking the truth and helping Jews escape from Nazi Germany. How many of us, this writer included, would be able to follow our convictions to that extent?

Some would like us to stay behind our church doors… even some of our brothers and sisters. There are some real prayer warriors in the world, but for most, the offer to pray about a situation is an excuse to avoid the work and conflict of the Christian in society. It is a work that must be done, however, and a challenge that must be met. My hope is that you will join us as we seek to be Christs hands and feet in our world.

We have our list of needs and wants to bring to the almighty that we expect Him to take care of. We will lay them out and expect Him to get on with it.

There is only one word to describe this way of thinking… WRONG! We have been unfaithful servants in caring for this free country that we have been blessed with.

We have…

permitted the slaughter of innocent children in their mother’s womb

turned a blind eye… even encouraged at times… a secular government to be the source

of security

followed politicians and celebrities instead of the God of the Bible

adapted to “contemporary” values

become convinced that tolerance is more important than standing for right over wrong

allowed our public schools to indoctrinate our children in the ways of political correctness and secular humanism

permitted so many churches to become little more than social clubs

forgotten our daily walk with our creator and savior

There is a one word right answer to our predicament. II Chronicles 7:14 tells us,

“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

There is our answer… that word is “Repent”. We cannot go on living the way we have been, self absorbed, uninvolved in the world around us, complaining about the the splinters in the eyes of our leaders while each of us has our own log in our own eye.

The answer is not in Washington, but with the people who sit around our own dinner table. The verse doesn’t say, when the government gets itself together… it says, when God’s people get themselves together… when they start acting like God’s people… that is when the land will be healed.

Many wonder if we have gone too far, that it may no longer be possible to restore our land. I would remind them of the many stories of people rising off their death beds after the faithful prayed for them. Is our God so puny that He can only save people, and not nations? No, if we do our part, following His ways, we open the door to miraculous interventions Washington and his revolutionary warriors witnessed at Brooklyn Heights. We also have to recognize that sometimes the answer to righteous prayer is “no”, but that is not our responsibility or decision. We are called to be faithful and stand for what is right… then we can confidently put the results in the hands of our God.

So when we get together for the National Day of Prayer, our prayers will go a lot further if we are shorter on the asking and longer on seeking forgiveness from the Father for the many times we have failed to live up to the things we say we believe. Then, follow up, day after day considering – and mending – our own ways… before we can expect the same from our leaders. After all, we are the ones who know the Father… they do not. It is we who are the ones responsible for restoring our fallen nation.

It seems that all the fussing done by those opposed to the massive government debt has drawn little attempt at rebuttal from those who believe they have better use for our money, and Chinese money, than those of us who are paying the bills do. They talk of creating jobs by the thousands, while jobs are lost by the millions, but to the progressive elites, it’s only a matter of degree… mere details. And they don’t see the proportional differences as being catastrophic, after all, it is not they who are out of work and losing their homes.

Those who value traditional America, the right, for want of a better term, see the debt as destroying jobs and with them, the American middle class. Making this argument with the progressives on the left yields little more than a yawn – just like complaining to an enviro about higher fuel prices. Of course they know their nefarious schemes will destroy the middle class. Why do we think they are pursuing the course of fiscal terrorism in the first place?

Since we all seem to be in agreement, why the acrimony? Why the hostility? I guess it comes down to whether or not this destruction of individual prosperity and independence is a good thing. Patrick Henry, known for his “give me liberty or give me death” approach to life would say it is a bad thing – a very bad thing. Many of us would agree. Our President and his henchmen would not!

Henry helped raise an army. Many of us only complain. It’s as if Thelma, instead of going along with the plan, were yelling “you’re driving off the cliff”, and Louise saying, “Yes I know.” We are complaining to people who know what they are doing and are happy about it. Instead of slamming on the brakes, they are hitting the gas harder for an even bigger crash.

When we complain at the progressives who have seized control of our country, we are just telling them what they already know. They know their plans destroy wealth and create dependence. That is precisely the plan. So those of us with common sense, instead of telling the left they are wrong, should just recognize them for the enemies of freedom that they are. We would then be able to work with the rest of the country, showing them why these schemes will be bad for everyone, particularly offspring.

As elites running the system, they see themselves above the tragedies that are befalling our nation. They are unimpressed by the stories of hard times many people are experiencing as they believe whatever was lost was undeserved in the first place, taken from someone who could have been prosperous, if only someone’s greed had not snatched it from their grasp. This is perhaps best exemplified by the President mocking a man who could not afford gas for his vehicle by telling him he should go out and buy a $40,000 replacement that would not meet his needs.

Fundamentally changing our country means fundamentally changing our country. We have an alien administration intent on obliterating the industrious, hard working, individual centric society with a group oriented submersion of the citizen into their gray society with no peaks and all valleys.

We need to understand that those in leadership positions do not think like we do. They do not have the same goals. There is hardly enough common ground to even set one foot down, let alone travel down the road to to a common future. One side or the other must emerge victorious. With this in mind, it would be good to remember the words of Samuel Adams, “It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the minds of men.”

Adams was speaking of the human side of the equation. Those of us who know the Creator have something even more powerful than anger… which is justified in so many cases. Philippians 4:13 tells us “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (NIV) As long as we stay on the side of His truth and don’t blindly expect divine protection and blessing for our plans, we have unstoppable power. If we reject the liberal lies and cling to the truth… the truth shall set us free.

The Internet is filled with good and bad, but I dare say if it wasn’t for the Internet (and the massive private ownership of firearms), it is doubtful that there would be anything left of the once great American republic. There isn’t much left as it is.

By Chuck Baldwin

The Internet is filled with good and bad. Personally, I believe the Internet (along with a precious few independent newspapers and radio talk shows) is analogous to colonial America’s “Committees of Correspondence”: it is the last resource of uncontrolled, unfiltered information left. I dare say if it wasn’t for the Internet (and the massive private ownership of firearms), it is doubtful that there would be anything left of the once great American republic. There isn’t much left as it is.

To help readers locate a variety of quality web sites, we posted a list of sites that I personally have found helpful. I invite readers to peruse these fine web sites: Click here.

Scrolling down the list, one will find James Wesley, Rawles’ web site: “Survival Blog.” This is one of the very best online resources for preparedness that I know of. Furthermore, I recommend that everyone read Rawles’ fantastic book, “Patriots: A Novel Of Survival In The Coming Collapse.” This book should be regarded as must reading for every American who cares about the future of his country and his family.

Order Rawles’ book at Amazon.com.

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see that James has recently written a major piece on his web site regarding the Baldwin family move to Montana. On his blog he wrote, “I concur that Pastor Chuck Baldwin was right when he ‘voted with his feet’ and moved his family from Florida to Montana. Like Chuck Baldwin, I believe that it is time for freedom-loving Christians to relocate to something analogous to ‘Galt’s Gulch’ on a grand scale.”

Rawles went on in his column to say, “Giordano Bruno identified a trend that has been developing informally for many years: a conscious retrenchment into safe haven states. I strongly recommend this amalgamation, and that it be formalized. I suggest calling it The American Redoubt. I further recommend Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, eastern Oregon, and eastern Washington for the ‘réduit.’ Some might call it a conglomeration, but I like to call it an amalgamation, since that evokes silver. And it will be a Biblically-sound and Constitutionally-sound silver currency that will give it unity.”

At the conclusion of his column, Rawles gives a succinct checklist for those who decide to take his advice and move to the Mountain States. The list includes:

* Develop a home-based business

* Lighten the load. Keep the practical items, but sell your junk and impractical items at a garage sale.

* Bring your guns.

* Sell your jewelry and fancy wristwatch. Buy a Stihl chainsaw instead.

* Choose your church home wisely, seeking sound doctrine, not “programs.”

* Expect long driving distances for work and shopping.

* Begin homeschooling your children.

* Expect persecution and hardship. You will be despised for being true to your faith.

* Make a clean break by selling your house and any rental properties. You aren’t coming back.

See Rawles’ blog entry.

After having moved to “The American Redoubt,” I can vouch for the accuracy and sagacity of Rawles’ comments. He is spot-on! Especially for the point: “Expect persecution and hardship. You will be despised for being true to your faith.” I can personally attest to the accuracy of this statement.

I thought I knew what persecution and hardship were, but after my family and I moved to Montana late last year, I found out that I didn’t have a clue what they were. I do now! Furthermore, it was not the “devil’s crowd” that did the persecuting and who created the hardship; it was “God’s people.” In my 50+ years of living, my family and I have never been treated as vilely and as cruelly as we were after we moved to Montana–by so-called “Christian friends.” Maybe one day I will be able to share the story with my readers. It is ghastly!

Since moving to this wonderful State, I have spoken with scores of people who also moved here: many moved before we did, and many came since we did. (And countless others are still on the way!) Amazingly, practically everyone I spoke to recounted the same exact story: persecution (in one way or another) by so-called “friends” and “loved ones,” because of their decision to move here. I mean, just about every one of them said the same thing!

For this reason, and many more, I said in one of my Sunday messages a week or two ago, “All of you Christian renegades and castaways from organized Churchianity out there, come on out to Kalispell, Montana, and join your liberty-loving brethren at Liberty Fellowship.” And guess what? They are coming!

They are coming from Washington State, California, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Just to name a few states that I know about from where people either have already moved, or from where people are in the process of moving.

At the conclusion of our Sunday service each week at Liberty Fellowship, I read the letters and emails from people all over America who feel the divine urge to come to the Mountain States. And many are coming to Kalispell, Montana, specifically to be part of Liberty Fellowship and the band of patriot Christian brothers that are assembled here. By the way, Liberty Fellowship is NOT a 501(c)(3) IRS corporation, which is another reason many are coming! And, again, if you are thinking about relocating here, please re-read Rawles’ words of wisdom. A move such as this is not for the fainthearted or uncommitted!

If readers want to view some of my archived messages, including my four-part series on “The True Meaning of Romans 13,” Click here.

Or, if readers want to watch our Sunday service livestreamed each Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm (MDT), Click here.

I’ve never met James Wesley, Rawles, but I hope to have that honor in the near future. And if not, I’ll be honored to shake his hand in Heaven. In the meantime, I can assure you that people need to start paying attention to folks like Rawles, because one would have to be a blind man to not see the foreboding clouds on America’s horizon. And, obviously, I strongly believed in “The American Redoubt” even before I knew there was a name for it.

by Jim Baxter

Deterministic systems, ideological symbols of abdication by man from his natural role as earth’s Choicemaker, inevitably degenerate into collectivism; the negation of singularity, they become a conglomerate plural-based system of measuring human value. Blunting an awareness of diversity, blurring alternatives, and limiting the selective creative process, they are self-relegated to a passive and circular regression.

Tampering with man’s selective nature endangers his survival for it would render him impotent and obsolete by denying the tools of variety, individuality, perception, criteria, selectivity, and progress. Coercive attempts produce revulsion, for such acts are contrary to an indeterminate nature and nature’s indeterminate off-spring, man the Choicemaker.

Until the oppressors discover that wisdom only just begins with a respectful acknowledgment of The Creator, The Creation, and The Choicemaker, they will be ever learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth. The rejection of Creator-initiated standards relegates the mind of man to its own primitive, empirical, and delimited devices. It is thus that the human intellect cannot ascend and function at any level higher than the criteria by which it perceives and measures values.

Additionally, such rejection of transcendent criteria self-denies man the vision and foresight essential to decision-making for survival and progression. He is left, instead, with the redundant wreckage of expensive hindsight, including human institutions characterized by averages, mediocrity, and regression.

Humanism, mired in the circular and mundane egocentric predicament, is ill-equipped to produce transcendent criteria. Evidenced by those who do not perceive superiority and thus find themselves beset by the shifting winds of the carnal-ego; i.e., moods, feelings, desires, appetites, etc., the mind becomes subordinate: a mere device for excuse-making and rationalizing self-justification.

The carnal-ego rejects criteria and self-discipline for such instruments are tools of the mind and the attitude. The appetites of the flesh have no need of standards for at the point of contention standards are perceived as alien, restrictive, and inhibiting. Yet, the very survival of our physical nature itself depends upon a maintained sovereignty of the mind and of the spirit.

It remained, therefore, to the initiative of a personal and living Creator to traverse the human horizon and fill the vast void of human ignorance with an intelligent and definitive faith. Man is thus afforded the prime tool of the intellect – a Transcendent Standard by which he may measure values in experience, anticipate results, and make enlightened and visionary choices.

Only the unique and superior God-man Person can deservedly displace the ego-person from his predicament and free the individual to measure values and choose in a more excellent way. That sublime Person was indicated in the words of the prophet Amos, “…said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel.” Y’shua Mashiyach Jesus said, “If I be lifted up I will draw all men unto myself.”

As long as some choose to abdicate their personal reality and submit to the delusions of humanism, determinism, and collectivism, just so long will they be subject and reacting only, to be tossed by every impulse emanating from others. Those who abdicate such reality may, in perfect justice, find themselves weighed in the balances of their own choosing.

“No one is smarter than their criteria.”

Yet Paul is setting the pace as the new legislators move into the seats of power inside the beltway. They have been sent to Washington to rock the boat and turn the government back into an organization working for the people who pay taxes and suffer from excessive and unrestrained regulation and interference. This hearing was one small skirmish in the battle to regain our freedom. Rand Paul cannot this win the battle alone.

The people who have gotten us into our current mess have grown comfortable in their positions of power and prestige, They are uncomfortable with these newcomers who have invaded their turf. The problem they have is that much of the public sides with these newcomers… that is quite a picklement for them.

However, this straight talk is not the only source of discomfort for the entrenched office holders. The lady rightly points out that it was a bipartisan effort in many cases that gave the national government unwarranted influence over our daily lives. They believed they were being statesman-like by rolling over for the Democrats, when in reality, they were weak and just being used. Unless, of course, they actually believed in much of the junk science that powers these misapplications of governmental power. If this is the case, it is even more of a breach the promises they made to get themselves elected.

So, for those who think they are too cool or too wise to deal with anyone named Paul, it would be good to learn the lessons wherever they may present themselves. People that destroy American jobs and increase living costs for already strapped citizens need to be resisted and stopped. They cannot be permitted to continue their nefarious work. They should not treated as legitimate agents working for the common good. The entrenched old timers could learn a lot from this Kentucky senator.

There’s an old saying that we are known by the company we keep. In spite of the culture that wants to tell us that new is good and ideas and things that have been around for a while are just plan old fashioned, this statement has the same ring of truth it did when it was first uttered. Of course we don’t hear too much of this from the media and political elites who proclaim the purity of their messianic president who counts among his associates, past and present, a guy who bombed the Pentagon, a preacher who hates America, a Secretary of the Treasury who didn’t pay his taxes and a thug former congressman from Chicago.

It must be difficult for Democrats to look through the prism of right and wrong when their dreams of national domination are so close at hand. Some of us are not even sure they could find the prism if they waned to. Minor missteps or major moral failures do not seem to be obstacles when long sought goals are within sight. Despite claims to the contrary, we are in an era when the end justifies the means.

It’s easy to criticize the Democrats, and many of us have been doing it for years. We catch hold of any failure on their part, even down to the Vice President foolishly thinking JOBS is a three letter word. The self-righteous among us, myself included, have to look at our reasons for our criticisms of Democratic idiosyncrasies. Are we really upset with the moral failures of our opponents or is it just one more shoe to throw at people whose policies are so terribly wrong for our country? Are we taking the easy way out with personal attacks rather than actually explaining why our ideas are better?

It is kind of the easy way out and the big government crowd provides us with so much material to personally abuse them. I love Ann Coulter’s writings and it’s great fun to read and say nasty things about our oppressors, much like elementary school children telling embarrassing stories about their teacher. However, like childhood tales, our nitpicking does little good. Besides if we get into an insult contest, we conservatives toften loose. Our responses tend to be more witty… often going over the prejudiced head of our adversary, but theirs tend to be more visceral, unbounded by human decency or good taste at times. We tend to come out second best in the publics’ eyes because of the inherent checks built into the conservative and Judaeo-Christian character and mindset.

What then, do we consciously set aside our standards so we, too, can wish kidney failure on the target of our rage? Or do we stay on message as to why the bailouts, nationalized health care or any issue du jour is a bad idea. The answer is, sort of. Ron Paul tried this approach and he had some really good ideas. But he was a little too professorial in his presentation to relate to Joe Sixpack who as been conditioned by sound bite journalism to expect answers in thirty second blocks.

Perhaps we need someone with his grasp of the issues and Ann Coulter’s acid wit, combined with a little self deprecation so seldom seen in the political class, to be the spokesperson for the revitalized conservative movement. A little humor goes a long way in making the hard truths we have to tell more palatable and easily absorbed.

Once we turn the corner where our understanding of the world becomes more common knowledge, we can honestly take on the personal shortcomings within the statist government. Until then, we are just majoring in minors and the job won’t get done. Until then, even if the personal issues are cured but our direction does not change, we are still on a downward spiral as a nation. Until then, let’s go after those who would control every aspect of our lives with logic, passionate, humility AND humor.
