The sun is shining here in central Virginia, and I feel a gentle breeze on my face, but things are far from normal for many of us. While we are a hundred miles inland from the coast, a short drive around my neighborhood finds three foot diameter trees across the road, remnants of power poles hanging from the wires they used to support and other wires wrapped around trees. I can only imagine what the good folks at Dominion Power are dealing with closer to the usually bustling Virginia beach.
Beyond the fallen power lines are other hazards in taking to the highways. Many of these fallen power lines are connected to those traffic signals that usually keep us from running into each other. Unfortunately, some people have difficulty grasping the idea that a darkened traffic light should be treated as a four way stop… and they just go cruising through. Must be people from up north somewhere, or maybe an illegal alien or two.
For the most part, though, people are dealing with the whole situation quite well. I met a few neighbors that I hadn’t know before. Having nowhere to go, we took the time to help each other out of our individual plights – like cutting the tree away from around my daughter’s car. Then we actually sat down across a dinner table from people we usually just wave to. There are some good things that came from the storm.
The Associated Press ran the distressing news that spending is down 0.2 percent. This is the first decrease since September 2009 – so the Commerce Department tells us. No, unfortunately, it is not the federal government they are talking about. It is the American consumer. Not only was there a general pull back on the outflow of dollars, but more specifically, larger purchases like cars and appliances slid as well.
To make matters worse, these selfish citizens are pulling more money out of the economy by increasing personal saving to almost five and a half percent of after tax income. They did this in spite of the abysmal interests rates forced upon us by the Fed trying to meet the government’s insatiable need to borrow.
This combination of less spending and more saving is an indication many are taking what steps they can to protect their families and themselves from the man made disaster called the US economy. They realize nothing is certain anymore. They know “good” jobs could be gone tomorrow… whether through diminished markets, outsourcing or aggressively hostile regulation. Read more of this article »
Many people who love their country and yearn for a time when good was sought after and evil was to be avoided, swear by commentator Glenn Beck. Yet others who claim the same value system look on him as a shyster looking to make a buck (or a bunch of bucks) off the angst of the American people. Of course there are those who say the same thing about Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin.
Some point to the time a while back when he came on the Fox and Friends morning show promising to expose the FEMA camp stories. He said that he thought they were just rumors until he looked into them… then promised to show proof they existed on his evening television show. When 5 o’clock rolled around the story changed to a debunking session. This is viewed as proof that he sold out to whoever in government wanted to keep them secret. He has also lost credibility with some viewers over his treatment of “birthers”.
Yet, who among us has not made mistakes. Who among us has never failed. Even the prophet Isaiah, when confronted by the living God, recognized his own inadequacies and declared, “Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” If even this spiritual giant had his flaws, are we right to expect perfection of any one? On July 1, 1940, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge opened to traffic for the first time. It was trim and elegant, the state of the art in suspension bridges. Only a few short months later, on November 7 of that same year, this same bridge succumbed to gale force winds and twisted itself into the makings of a man made reef at the bottom Puget Sound. Obviously there were some unrecognized flaws in the graceful design.
Many of us see other flaws in other designs all the time. Unfortunately, so many of them are not recognized by the designers until they are revealed by some unexpected tragedy. One design flaw currently working its way through our economy is the Federal Reserves monetary policy.
Our country was founded on the principles of thrift, economy and independence. Our central bank, along with other associated financial institutions, has been laying the groundwork for years to draw our country into a web of debt and dependence our forefathers would have rejected at first bloom. Ostensibly, to keep inflation under control they have kept their borrow window rate at sub one percent levels. Read more of this article »
Washington, DC – Today national leaders signed a Freedom Federation letter that is being hand-delivered to all members of the U.S. Congress, urging them to balance the budget and lower the national debt. The letter asks for four things: that the national deficit be cut now by $500 billion, that spending caps be enacted, that there be no increase in taxes, and that a balanced budget amendment be passed. The letter states in part: “We believe that this is a moral, fiscal, and national security imperative” which needs immediate attention.
This letter is signed by national leaders of multiracial, multiethnic, and multigenerational faith-based and policy organizations representing over 40 million people, who are united by one or more core conservative values expressed in the Declaration of American Values.
Under the principle of supply and demand, the world’s available loans are being used at an unsustainable rate. As the supply of available finances dwindles, the cost of each loan increases. Without the necessary supply to accommodate the government’s incessant demand for capital, Congress will be forced to print money, which will cause hyperinflation. Our current trajectory indicates that we are headed toward a debt wall that could be reached in as little as two years. Read more of this article »
Double dips may be great at Baskin Robbins, but not in the American economy. This past week, Barack H Obama nonchalantly commented that he did not think we were headed for a double dip recession and that it really wasn’t a concern of his at this time. His administration continues to pump out propaganda that the recovery has been under way for the last two years in spite of the fact that new unemployment claims have been “unexpectedly” hovering at a point just shy of half a million a week.
To many these numbers and the nine percent unemployment rate, along with the statistics about homeowners underwater with their mortgages and those actually being foreclosed are just academic… as useless as the academics and talking heads who bandy them about. However, when it comes down to real flesh and blood examples of people who have worked so long to build something for themselves and their families, these numbers tell the story of a real American tragedy.
With an administration obviously operating on the Goebbels “big lie” theory, we can either make the choice to believe the feel good talk coming out of the mouths of people who have yet to tell us anything resembling the truth, or we can choose to believe what we see all around us. I had the fortune of hearing Brigitte Gabriel a few years ago and was struck by the clarity of her message. Political correctness is, on one hand, a method of controlling the expressed thoughts and actions of the masses through social and, sometimes, legal, pressures. On the other hand, it attempts to clear the way for the one message our “betters” want us to hear and act on. It comes from the halls of academia which is supposed to be the bastion of free thought and expression. However, in practice, thought is only free if it stays within the confines of the leader’s wishes. Other expression is deemed anti-social and must be restricted for the smooth functioning of the progressive agenda at work in most universities, media outlets and government agencies.
Ms Gabriel was born in Marjayoun, Lebanon, a small town near the Israeli border to a Christian family.
For seven years, she, along and her parents had to live in an 8′x10′ underground bomb shelter. They had no electric and only a small space heater. To get water, she had to crawl along the road in a ditch to keep from being a target for Muslim snipers. Read more of this article »
This past weekend I went back to my old home town in Upper Bucks County, PA. On the way back from my old church – a good evangelical church – I passed St. Isidore’s Roman Catholic Church. My primary recollection of it from my younger days was weekend dances at their old location for area teenagers. This time, however, something other than their beautiful building caught my eye. Close to a hundred white crosses dotted the front lawn along with several signs explaining that each one represented thousands of innocent children who lost their chance at life to a greedy abortionist. Their wording was a little more euphemistic, but carried the same message.
This got me to thinking. Why is it evangelical churches who say they take the Bible seriously and literally are seldom heard from on this issue? Is it not part of being salt and light in this troubled world to stand up for these weakest ones who cannot speak for themselves? Is it not part of being salt and light to stand for good and against evil?
I understand that most churches that would classify themselves as evangelical would claim to be against abortion. But for all our numbers, we allow our Catholic brothers to carry on the fight virtually all alone. Sure our understanding of our relationship to our Creator is somewhat different, but our understanding on the issue of killing babies comes from the same scriptures to the same conclusion. While flooding the banking system with excessive amounts of fiat dollars, Fed Chairman Bernanke has talked endlessly about the need to avert deflation. Unspoken was the real reason: promoting inflation – robbing retirees and working people who are saving to support their retirements – in order to fund mounting federal debt.
It’s now clear that government stimulus spending, under George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and unending expansion of the money supply by the Fed, have prolonged our agonizingly slow economic revival. That is hardly surprising, since no previous resort to Keynesian macroeconomics has worked as advertised. At most they have promoted stock market bubbles, and all such essays, beginning in the 1930s Depression, have led to continual and ruinous inflation.
This weekend I took my five year old grandson to the Greatest Show on Earth. He had a permanent grin on his face from the time the show began until he kind of dozed off on the way home. He loved the clowns, the acrobats, tight rope walkers, zebras, elephants and tigers. The boy was blissfully ignorant of the turmoil in the world about us.
He was typical of youngsters in the smaller than usual crowd. The government damaged economy gave the circus joy to fewer families this year… and there are many children just like who have never had the opportunity to enjoy such an evening. Yet, all of the younger generation, privileged or not, already have debt upon debt piled on them by the scoundrels in Washington who insist on borrowing money that will never be paid off in their lifetimes to finance giveaways to people who vote to keep them in office.
If you’re like me, you really hate to think of the thousands of dollars that have already been committed in my grandson’s name, with more being piled on every day. We have three choices… only three. Read more of this article »
Abe Lincoln said it best, “What is morally wrong cannot be politically correct.” Yet the exponential pornification of our culture is contributing both directly and indirectly to the epidemic of child sexual abuse, and unfortunately, certain segments of our government are turning a blind eye.
The U.S. spends trillions in military engagements overseas to prevent, protect and defend, and yet, research indicates that in our own country, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually victimized before adulthood (the majority are victimized by family members or someone whom they know and trust). Illegal adult pornography (i.e. obscenity) remains unprosecuted, and every child with unrestricted Internet access is just one click away from viewing this material. In a recent study, 53% of boys and 28% of girls, ages 12-15, reported using hard-core, adult illegal pornography. Additionally, law enforcement is grossly underfunded to prosecute predators, and the $3 billion child pornography industry remains one of the fastest growing businesses online. Over 200,000 rape kits remain unprocessed, and over 100,000 registered sex offenders are “lost in the system”, allowing rapists and child molesters to repeatedly abuse and expand their wake of exploitation.
A new movie called “Trust”, Directed by David Schwimmer, should serve as a wakeup call to our nation to open its eyes to the very real problem of child sexual abuse in this country. “Trust” documents the raw physical, social and emotional toll on 14-year-old Annie Cameron (Liana Liberato) as she is groomed online and later victimized during an offline meeting with “Charlie”, whom she initially believes to be a 16-year-old boy. Washington, DC – In a recently released video, Planned Parenthood has been caught offering assistance to a man posing as a child sex trafficker in New Jersey. An office manager is caught in a private meeting with this man as he makes the nature of his business clear and details that his “clients” (victims) are either minors or illegally present in the United States.
The footage captures on camera the sinister side of Planned Parenthood, as an office manager laughs and jokes with the pimp and gives tips on how to make his business appear more “ligit.” Planned Parenthood has long contended that its purpose of existence is to protect the health and well-being of women, yet this Planned Parenthood official never reported the existence of an acknowledged child sex trafficking operation to police. Obviously, if this trafficking ring were to have been real, Planned Parenthood would have made money from aborting the babies that came as a consequence of the ring’s activities, thus directly taking advantage of these victims. Live Action is well noted as having done these kinds of undercover operations before, often exposing the horrors of abortion clinics around the country. Read more of this article »
Two arks preserved the sanctity of God’s creation. One Ark preserved God’s presence; the other ark was a covenant between God and man to save creation. Both Arks dealt with the preservation of their atmospheres.
Today, we are now at a point in world history where, once again, the consequences of our (mankind) actions are about to backfire on us with regional and global catastrophic results.
Biblical prophecy teaches us that regionalism is an inevitability in terms of geo-political groups that will be merged to create the ‘10 toes in King Nebuchadnezzar‘s dream, which Daniel interpreted. This dream as detailed in the 2nd and 7th chapter of the Book of Daniel, tells us of the merging of national powers for world dominance all the way up to our present time.
Most theologians understand Nebuchadnezzar’s dream to prophecy of a revived Roman Empire. Others consider the significance of a fast growing Islamic threat that will also be ‘hell bent’ on world dominance. Rather than getting into a lively theological debate over the exactitude of the toes, I think that it is more important to note that the foot will be anti-Semitic and aimed at kicking and destroying Zion. Inflammatory, political speech that is used to manipulate the masses, can often create a murderous environment that can backfire on the politicians that use it. Proverbs 18:21 tells us Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Haman had all of the Jewish people of Persia (Iran) in his “crosshairs” for extermination when he saw that Mordecai; the spiritually devoted Jew, would not bow to his image and give him the reverence that he thought he deserved (Esther 3:5).
Haman represents the archetype of true evil and anti-Semitism. His spirit may be masked in what may appear to be right or even respectable, as with Haman all the king’s servants bowed and gave him homage (Esther 3:2).
Haman’s plans backfired, and if we use Kingdom principles taken from his actual life and death we will successfully defeat his spirit today. In this current, prophetic season of “backfire” the over zealous aspirations of political opportunist that are knowingly, or unwittingly led by his spirit will also receive a stinging rebuke. Washington, DC – The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) continues to loose marquee conservative groups because of its inclusion of GOProud as a cosponsor of the annual event. GOProud holds itself out as a conservative organization, but it actively promotes causes that conflict with social conservative positions, such as advocating for same-sex unions, repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, and repeal of the so-called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
In 2009, Liberty University was a scheduled cosponsor of CPAC’s 2010 event, until GOProud’s cosponsorship was announced. Liberty University sent a letter to CPAC signed by 45 organizations which theretofore supported CPAC. The letter urged CPAC to withdraw the cosponsorship of GOProud, stating there is a difference between being a cosponsor of a conservative event and an exhibitor or attendee. A cosponsor should not actively work to undermine the mission of another cosponsor. When the American Conservative Union, which is the primary organizer of CPAC, refused to withdraw GOProud’s cosponsorship, Liberty University withdrew its cosponsorship. This year neither Liberty University nor Liberty Counsel are participating in CPAC. The Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, Heritage Foundation, Media Research Center, and others have also withdrawn from CPAC. Read more of this article »
I am very hurt that already some in the political world and in the media are attempting to fix blame for the tragic slaughter of innocent people in Tucson, AZ on political and social conservatives. Millions of Americans feel strongly about the unrelenting attacks on Constitutional freedom, and the growing tyranny of an insatiable hunger for political power. There has been some very strong language used on both sides, but heated political debate does not incite violence in reasonable people. Likewise, the actions of a crazed individual should not be blamed on people of strong convictions on the political right or the left.
There are those who are calling for armed revolution in this country, and they must be condemned by all who cherish true freedom and American Constitutional government. ALL of the calls for violence and revolution I have heard over the past two years have come from people who have long embraced radical ideas from the political left. There have been very few instances of right wing radical violence, and all of them have been unanimously condemned from those on the conservative side.
There is a very small minority of extremists on the left and an even smaller minority on the right who would tolerate violence as a means for political change. Both those minorities must be condemned immediately, forcefully, and completely from all American. Read more of this article »
It’s New Years Eve and we are about to enter 2011. The past year has been one of tremendous success for the people of the United States… and tremendous failure for our representatives who are charged with the job of guarding our republic and protecting our freedom. Sure some progress has been made in our nations’ capitol, but it has only been to slow down the our plunge into tyranny. The victories we have seen show us what we, the people, are capable of when we get together and stand against our would be masters.
We can sit back in satisfaction for having driven many of the worst offenders from positions of power. But… some remain and they are still determined to impose their will on the American people. If we do sit back and rest on our victories, they will evaporate like our jobs and our national prosperity. Remember the high so many of us felt on election night as we saw one after another of these big government types go down to defeat. That, and the work the legitimate foes of small government heading to Washington, is the payoff for our efforts. Not all of our favorites were elected… but supporting them was still worth our effort.
We have felt, as they say, the “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat”. This shows we are alive and in the arena. Even though we need to stand against some of his progressive policies, we need to consider the words of Theodore Roosevelt when he said: Read more of this article »
Reflecting on the recent Christmas shopping season, I noticed a few things for which I claim no original thought, but I believe need to be recognized. In the rush to express our appreciation for friends and family members… or merely impress them… it’s easy to miss many of the things taking place in our world.
First was my trip into one of those bath shops that sell the lotions and creams many women, including my wife, love. First of all, unless they speak the language, this is no place for a man to set foot. I knew the flavor and had seen the bottles, so I wasn’t in too much trouble, but it still was no fun. Between the poor, lost males and the aroma crazed ladies taking advantage of the pre-Christmas sales, finding the object of my search was like working my way through the crowd at a Sprint Cup race – the difference being that I actually enjoy the race.
As I was searching, I came across about twenty feet of wall space devoted exclusively to anti-bacterial hand cleaners in the various assorted flavors. I knew many Americans obsessed with germs, but was not aware of the extent of this fixation. It was that much less shelf space devoted to their signature bath powders and body lotions, so they must be making the sales. In any case, I waded through the throng and found the products my wife enjoys. Read more of this article »
Orlando, FL – Between his campaign against President Gerald Ford in 1975-76 and his race against Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan delivered more than 1,000 radio broadcasts, running about three minutes each, writing nearly all of them himself. In one broadcast during the Christmas season, Mr. Reagan told a story about Christmas in the Ukraine before and after Communism.
In an effort to resist Christians, Communist leaders secularized a favorite Ukrainian Christmas carol, “Nova Radist Stala” (Joyous News Has Come to Us). The original song began with these words: “The joyous news has come which never was before. Over a cave above a manger a bright star has lit the world, where Jesus was born from a virgin maiden, …” Communists feared the public outcry that would follow a complete ban on Christmas, so they began to slowly secularize the holiday. The first rewrite of the song began: “The joyous news has come which never was before, a red star with five tails has brightly lit the world.” The second rewrite went further: “The joyous news has come which never was before. Long-awaited star of freedom lit the skies in October [the month of the Revolution]. Where formerly lived the kings and had the roots their nobles, there today with simple folks, Lenin’s glory hovers.”
The former Soviet Union eventually began banning Christmas commemorations. St. Nicholas was replaced with “Did Moroz,” or Grandfather Frost. This Stalinist creation wears a red cap and long white beard of Santa Claus, but he delivers gifts to children on New Year’s Eve. Christmas trees were also banned, but people continued to trim their New Year’s trees. Communism folded all Christmas celebrations into a New Year celebration. Read more of this article »
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Watching this video of President Reagan’s Christmas message provided me with one more reminder of how far our country has fallen. The man loved our country and our values. He encouraged us to have the same feeling about this wonderful land.
Unfortunately, we now are led by those who cannot find happiness in America. There is no sense of love of country, only a dissatisfaction born of a lust for the possessions of those who have succeeded. It is accompanied by a drive to bring as much as possible under the control of the ruling class who believe they are so much smarter than the rest of us, even though many have never really left the halls of learning to accomplish anything of value. Christmas is kind of an odd season of the year. The entire purpose of the holiday is to commemorate the birth of the Christ child. Yet, for those immersed in government activity and the formerly main stream media, one would never know it. Stories abound about how much retailers profiting from from Americans driving themselves deeper into debt or hurting when they don’t. We are told which is the hottest toy of the season or where to get this year’s “must have” gift. Then there are “think pieces” about the rash of suicides as those without hope or understanding of the season find these the most depressing weeks of the year.
Not being a big proponent of conspiracy theories, I wouldn’t say it is all the result of the machinations of a Hungarian-born puppeteer… but more likely due to the tendency of those who call themselves journalists to avoid houses of worship as studiously as Billy Graham avoided strip clubs. The absence of spiritual understanding leads to a strictly materialistic view of the world. Stories about the incarnation of God’s Son have no relevance to their thinking. They live in a world that values notoriety and power, while the Christmas story is one that values gentleness and love.
Many parts of our government are no better. Those striving to bring about a secular society that functions without the benefit of religion are also denying display of many items that remind people of the real Christmas story. The idea of a fat man in a red suit giving out goodies that no one has worked for or earned is much more palatable to those doing the same thing for a government paycheck. Read more of this article »
After several weeks of moving and settling in, many readers have been writing me asking for an update on our move to the Flathead Valley of Montana. First, let me say, we love it here! The scenery is spectacular, especially now that winter has arrived. What the snow does to the landscape in this mountainous region is breathtaking! Driving through the mountains is like driving through Narnia. I have never seen such beauty.
As for the climate, it is not near as cold as people made it out to be. Coming from a warm weather State like Florida, one must learn how to dress in a cold weather State like Montana, of course. We have quickly learned to layer our clothing–and wear the right type of clothing. That is for sure. But in all honesty, I’ve felt colder in the Southeast than I often do here. Obviously, the cold weather lasts longer here, but the dry climate moderates the cold temperatures to a great degree. What I’m saying is, the cold weather of Western Montana is no big deal!
But the greater treasure of the Treasure State is its people. We love the people here in the Flathead Valley! As I have said before, it is my studied opinion that there are perhaps more freedom-loving people (taken on the whole) in this area than in any area of the country. Our living among the people of the Flathead only confirms my estimation. And even better is the fact that more and more patriots are moving to this area all the time. Read more of this article »
It’s humorous to listen to members of the political class rail against corporate welfare. Yet the practice continues. Everyone is against using taxpayer funds (or in the case of Democrats, government funds) for the benefit of corporations whose balance sheets show tens of millions, sometimes billions of dollars in assets. Yet when you get down to what this financial hemorrhage really amounts to, what we see reveals more about the values and political debts of the politician than a real aversion to transferring public funds to private entities.
We see the President fussing and fuming about the evil Wall Street Shylocks raping the public, yet these accused merchants of misery supplied unprecedented funding for his presidential campaign. Then he provided them with the reservoir of dollars to maintain their extravagant lifestyles and has consistently pursued transferring taxpayer dollars to their accounts when things looked shaky. He found it much more important to protect the lenders than the home owners who he left on the hook when the government collapsed the housing market.
The Republicans showed no more integrity when they provided the initial bailout through TARP, although the amounts involved now look like small potatoes. Hank Paulsen and company were willing to set in motion events that threaten to bankrupt the entire country to keep the financial institutions from whence he came from suffering this dreaded fate. Core inflation, the tell us, is not increasing. These are the same people who tell us our economy is on the rebound. Mark Twain is reported to have said, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” However the the worst lies of all are Washington statistics, with an agenda behind each numeric rounding and each slice of the statistical pie. Being an old computer geek who has worked with raw data for years, I’ve seen it squeezed and manipulated to prove just about any point the powers that be wish to make.
The truth of the bogus claim of the core inflation proponents can be seen during any visit to the gas station, grocery or department store. We’ve seen gas prices creep up, food prices creep up and even our saving favorite, Walmart, has not been rolling back prices quite so far. Yet, the ruling class has formulated numbers to make us believe our cost of living is not increasing. The question becomes, do we believe our government and the Federal Reserve, or do we believe our own experience?
The more gullible among us choose to believe the press releases coming our of Washington as they polish the Obama stickers on their cars. It may be that many don’t pay many of their own bills and don’t really notice these things… or are not bothered because they aren’t paying with their own money. Read more of this article »

In February of this year, Hannah Workman, a fifth grader and straight-A student in Florida’s Clay County School District, was denied entrance to her elementary school’s gifted program because she did not score high enough on the entrance exam. While that is unremarkable in and of itself, her mother later learned that Hannah would have scored high enough to enter the gifted program if her family earned less. The standards on the entrance exam, she discovered, were based on income level and English proficiency. Students who qualified for free or reduced lunch or who spoke limited English only had to score in the 90s to qualify, while other children needed to score at least 130.
Though seemingly a minor footnote in the story of America’s public schools, the testing policy of this Florida school district cuts to the core of the philosophical debate over the role of education raging among educators and policy makers. It reveals much about the changing definition of “fairness” and the problem with using publically-funded education to redress social inequality.
Fairness used to mean that the same standard should be applied to everyone. Today, “fairness” has increasingly come to mean purging inequity by all available means. It doesn’t take someone with a college degree to recognize which of the two is really just, however. 11-year-old Hannah explained it succinctly enough to her local news station, WJXT in Jacksonville. “They should have one set score where it doesn’t matter how much money your family makes or if you have fare-reduced lunch, if you get that score, no matter what, you can get in,” she said. Having just spent the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the land of Chris Cristie and Jim Florio, I noticed a few things about the Garden State. First, is that while the thinking in Trenton has changed considerably for the better and Governor Cristie presents the best hope to recover prosperity in the region that has seen in recent history… or at least limit the economic hemorrhaging until a pro-American government can be installed in Washington, there is still so much to be done.
I mentioned Jim Florio along with the current governor as one who represents the other end of the New Jersey political scale. For years the state government, which is one of the states’ major industries has been operated for the benefit of the citizens, as long as they were union members – teachers, government workers, construction or whatever – or were well connected in other ways. Today, ironically, there is hope for change. Yet all this cannot be laid solely at the feet of Florio. He was preceded by the likes of Jon Corzine, who almost got himself killed while not wearing his government approved and promoted seat belt, and homosexual Jim McGreevey who confessed to being governor in 2004… and the illustrious Woodrow Wilson who not only executed his nefarious schemes in his own state, but laid much of the groundwork for the progressive destruction of the entire country.
On the evening of Black Friday, we walked the streets of downtown Denville, a small town about 30 miles west of New York City. The Chamber of Commerce had organized on Open House to promote the local businesses as they compete against local mall, just the next town over in Rockaway. The blast of frigid wintry air we experienced as we walked the near empty streets, reminded me once again of one of the reasons I no longer call this part of the world home. Thanksgiving Day is a day set aside for giving thanks, but unfortunately, so many have no idea of who they should be giving thanks to, and for what. Sure the flat screen TV is nice, and so is the sports car and the nice house. These are things many people wish they had, or had back today. Yet, in our wonderful country, where even the worst off is far more fortunate than most of the rest of the world, we have lost our sense of appreciation for what we have… and even worse, for those around us.
At this time of year we have the opportunity to experience the true wealth that is ours. In my case this ranges from my five year old grandson to my eighty eight year old mother who is still with us. Time around the dinner table with these good folks helps put into perspective what is of real value in life. This would be true if all we had was a baloney sandwich in front of us. These are things the government and corporate world cannot give us. This wealth comes from above, as does everything else we have. This is the day we honor Him, but if it is only one day, we have missed the point… it is just a reminder of what we should be doing all year long.

FOR AS MUCH as it is the indispensable Duty of all Men to adore the superintending Providence of Almighty God; to acknowledge with Gratitude their Obligation to Him for Benefits received, and to implore such farther Blessings as they stand in Need of: And it having pleased Him in his abundant Mercy, not only to continue to us the innumerable Bounties of his common Providence; but also to smile upon us in the Prosecution of a just and necessary War, for the Defense and Establishment of our unalienable Rights and Liberties; particularly in that He hath been pleased, in so great a Measure, to prosper the Means used for the Support of our Troops, and to crown our Arms with most signal success:
It is therefore recommended to the legislative or executive Powers of these UNITED STATES to set apart THURSDAY, the eighteenth Day of December next, for SOLEMN THANKSGIVING and PRAISE: That at one Time and with one Voice, the good People may express the grateful Feelings of their Hearts, and consecrate themselves to the Service of their Divine Benefactor; and that, together with their sincere Acknowledgments and Offerings, they may join the penitent Confession of their manifold Sins, whereby they had forfeited every Favor; and their humble and earnest Supplication that it may please GOD through the Merits of JESUS CHRIST, mercifully to forgive and blot them out of Remembrance; That it may please Him graciously to afford His Blessing on the Governments of these States respectively, and prosper the public Council of the whole: To inspire our Commanders, both by Land and Sea, and all under them, with that Wisdom and Fortitude which may render them fit Instruments, under the Providence of Almighty GOD, to secure for these United States, the greatest of all human Blessings, INDEPENDENCE and PEACE: That it may please Him, to prosper the Trade and Manufactures of the People, and the Labor of the Husbandman, that our Land may yield its Increase: To take Schools and Seminaries of Education, so necessary for cultivating the Principles of true Liberty, Virtue and Piety, under His nurturing Hand; and to prosper the Means of Religion, for the promotion and enlargement of that Kingdom, which consisteth “in Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost.”
And it is further recommended, That servile Labor, and such Recreation, as, though at other Times innocent, may be unbecoming the Purpose of this Appointment, be omitted on so solemn an Occasion.
