Two days before, Dr. Cook talked to Vice President Bush, and just the day before, he talked to the President. Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he said. “But this morning... I talked to God.”

Years ago when I worked at National Religious Broadcasters. The big event of the year was the annual conventions in Washington DC. Most every well known Christian voice was heard at these gatherings. The President of the United States would usually ride up Connecticut Avenue to address the assembled crowd. This was particularly exciting as this was all happening during the Reagan years.

James Dobson tugged at the heart strings, S.M. Lockridge spoke with passion. However, for me, the most memorable speaker, was Dr. Robert A. Cook from The King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, NY. – now moved to New York City. He was a delightful gentleman who had a way of putting things into perspective. He began his address by telling us that two days before, he talked to Vice President Bush, and just the day before, he talked to the President. Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he said. “But this morning… I talked to God.”

In his own, plain spoken way, the bow tied Dr. Cook showed an unusual understanding of the what was important and where the real power rests. As great a man as Ronald Reagan was, he could not walk on water or turn water into wine… and, even though this may come as a surprise to some, neither can the man who occupies his office now nor any of those seeking to replace him.

We are told to respect our leaders and pray for those in authority. This does not mean we are to blindly follow and not speak up when we see things are amiss. They are men… only men. We are privileged to live in country where we still have the ability to raise our voices when we see the train is headed off a cliff. With this privilege comes the responsibility to do so! After all, it’s not just about us. We are our brothers keeper.

As a practical matter, then, we need to stay in touch with our legislators, at all levels. We are not doing our jobs as citizens if we don’t and our complaints to others just become ineffective whining… and nobody likes a whiner. People respect those who take decisive action – even if they don’t agree with, or even like, you.

Bernanke’s press conference announcement again booted the stock and bond markets, but did nothing to boost employment.

By Thomas Brewton

Bernanke’s press conference announcement again booted the stock and bond markets, but did nothing to boost employment.

At his January 25, 2012, press conference, Federal Reserve Bank chairman Ben Bernanke stated that he expects the Fed to continue imposing near-zero interest rates well into 2014 on short-term Treasury securities. In response, the stock market surged, despite expectations of generally lower corporate earnings and reduced consumer spending. Loose credit and low interest rates usually facilitate stock market speculation.

However gratifying this may to individual investors and pension fund managers, it does little if anything to restore production of goods and services or to raise employment. It also continues to penalize increased savings, which alone provides a stable, long-term platform for economic growth. People living on fixed incomes have had their rates of income on saving chopped around 75% since the Fed first cut interest rates.

As Austrian school economists long have observed, central bank manipulation of interest rates and government deficit spending have an uneven impact on sectors of the economy. When unemployment is high and people are yet freighted with excessive personal debt, consumer spending will be among the last sectors to increase.

Instead, deficit spending and loose money lead businessmen to over-invest in long term capital goods, because low interest cost for borrowed money makes even marginal investment projects appear profitable. When business finally revives and costs, including interest rates, increase, those marginal projects collapse and push the economy into recession.

Such was the genesis and progress of the housing bubble and subprime mortgage securities.

Contrary to the aggregate computer models of Keynesian economics, the economy as a whole never has been controllable via government stimulus spending. In fact, as reported recently, the 31% increase in business long-term investment over recent months has been largely concentrated in labor-saving equipment, which ironically adds to unemployment or postpones new hiring.

“Why can’t we all just get along?” pleaded Rodney King after being beaten by Los Angeles police officers in March of 1991. Later actions showed the man to be not quite the innocent that the press painted him to be at the time. This, however, does not change the value of his question… why can’t we get along?

There are many reasons the academic elites offer for our inability to live peacefully with each other. It doesn’t seem to matter if the conflict is with people at work, in our neighborhood, or even in our church. We see the same conflicts in our government and among nations. It seems that each of us judges ourselves by our own good intentions… and we judge others by their actions.

We see the president self-righteously declaring his concern for downtrodden. What person with a concern for his fellow man cannot help but feel for those less fortunate. Assuming the purity of his motivation, one can almost understand his recent speech where he declared that if congress would not bend to his will, he would move toward the realization of his ideal society with out them. It doesn’t seem to matter that there are other opinions, other approaches and even other directions that the country could be moving in. More importantly, it doesn’t seem to matter that the Constitution does not grant him that power.

He sees the recalcitrant Republicans – at least those with the courage to stand up to him – as morally depraved in their efforts to keep the poor in his constituency from experiencing the good things our country has to offer. He is assured of the virtue of his course which means, obviously, that those opposed to his schemes are selfishly wanting to use these same constituents for their own evil purposes or, at the least, push them aside and out of the way.

To Barack Hussein Obama, achievement of equality of all Americans… even equality of our country with the rest of the world, is his primary purpose in life. It does not matter to him, nor does it matter to his socialistic groupies, that many people will necessarily be hurt and suffer loss to achieve his concept of heaven on earth.

For those of us who find ourselves on the other side of the issue, not seeing eye to eye with the exalted one with a questionable pedigree, we are up against someone with no concept of the idea that reasonable people can have a different view point than his. Opposition could only come from selfishness, the desire for political gain, or, worst of all… because of his race. For someone with an ethnocentric view of the world, it is not possible to understand that attempts to save the country from his destructive government come from anything other than hatred for people of color.

On the other hand, those of us who value liberty over equality, see the president’s actions in the worst possible light. We take it personally when he says we should be willing to give up more of the fruit of our labor so his powerful government can give it to others to create some sort of fairness in the world. There is evidence of some lack of purity in this pursuit of fairness, as his writings give us fair warning of his desire for retribution for some real and imagined wrongs on a collective basis.

Today our country is a house divided. There are those among us who are working, or wanting to work, to achieve some goal. Then, there are those who are more than willing to take what the workers have created and use it to buy votes and inflict their will on the rest of the country. There are two distinct directions we see for our land. One goes to the right and one to the left. Where is the difference that can be worked out? Where is the room for compromise?

We can follow path A or path B, We can go down one path or the other. One method of working things out, since we don’t want to go in one direction and the other side refuses to go down our path, involves staying where we are as one form of compromise. Whether this option appeals to us or not, that fact that our system is not working should be enough to convince us this choice would not be beneficial.

So we have two competing visions for our country that are really mutually exclusive. If we follow one, we will have a big government taking as much as it can from each of us, creating dependencies where none ever existed and controlling an ever increasing portion of our lives. If we follow the other vision, we will reduce the influence of a self serving government in our lives. Somehow, we can’t have a government increasingly controlling our lives while we reduce its influence on the way we live. It just doesn’t work that way.

One or the other side will win out. Often the builders and producers are concerned about others and try to work amicably with everyone. The takers have no such concern for the niceties of human relations. It may be our desire to get along that ultimately leads to the downfall of our nation. We need to rid ourselves of the illusion that we can have freedom by compromising with those who want to control us.

II Corinthians 6:14b asks, “For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” Freedom and dependence on a government cannot exist in the same space.

As much as we would like to be liked by all, and as much as we like the idea of compromise, in practice these concepts to not really work in this part of the world. The late comedian George Carlin understood what happens when we see two incompatible sides working together “for our good”, “Bipartisan usually means that a larger-than-usual deception is being carried out.”

The answer, then, should be obvious. We need to recognize that these domestic enemies of liberty are just as dangerous, if not more so, than those overseas who would destroy us… and they need to be treated, and defeated, as such.

Democrats are all in a tizzy about the announcement by Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson that he would not be seeking re-election next year.

Democrats are all in a tizzy about the announcement by Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson that he would not be seeking re-election next year. If the name sounds familiar, just think back to the battle over ObamaCare and the infamous Cornhusker Kickback.

They are wringing their hands in despair as if the retirement of a supposedly “moderate” senator held the key to the retention of power by a corrupt and unresponsive administration.

As for Senator Nelson, it appears that he has the wisdom to recognize how precarious his position really is with a disenchanted electorate. There is an old tradition among the political class when faced with certain defeat… it’s called “take the money and run”.

With millions of Americans angered at the encroaching government from our nation’s capitol and the Democrats having to defend 23 seats as opposed to the Republicans 10, it would seem to be an exercise of feckless hubris to think this farm state legislator would be one of only five (the minimum number for a Republican takeover) to be sent packing… or at least off to the wonderful and profitable world of the lobbyist. Members of the “club” never seem to loose. It is only the taxpaying citizens who get the short end of the proverbial stick.

This may just be talk to keep the troops from deserting in despair or perhaps they have developed newer and better techniques to bypass the electoral will of the people. Possibly the word could also be spread to diminish the hopes of the opposition, both Tea Party and Republican. The Democrats are masters at psychological warfare and disinformation. The only thing certain is that we are looking and interesting eleven months.

We can take heart in the fact that one more of the scoundrels who have been wreaking havoc on our land will be gone from their position of power. Now, it is up to us to see that Nelson and those like him are replaced by true patriots looking out for the welfare of the people rather than their own wealth and power.

Matt Kibbe from FreedomWorks was correct when he noted that we have two jobs. We have to defeat the Republicans before we can defeat the Democrats. Our country faces tremendous dangers, and a tremendous opportunities. We cannot permit the status quo merchants to convince us that the same people who created the mess we are dealing with can solve it.

Some of these slick lipped politicians actually meant well. Good intentions just don’t get the job done. C.S. Lewis wrote, “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.” Others had different agendas. Whatever the reason for this intrusion into our lives, the fact remains that the path they have set before us is the path of destruction. Unless the situations changes greatly, there is a very good chance that the Republicans will take control of the Senate and, most likely, the Presidency. That doesn’t mean the people win as well. We win when the goals and approaches of our leaders are the goals and approaches of the American people.

With all the enthusiasm for the various personalities running for the Republican nomination, it's easy to loose sight of the issues that drive the need to replace the current White House resident.

With all the enthusiasm for the various personalities running for the Republican nomination, it’s easy to loose sight of the issues that drive the need to replace the current White House resident. As the passions rise, so does the level of rhetoric and the hostility toward other candidates and their supporters. Passion is great, hostility toward others who should be on the same team is not. It makes it too easy to fragment ourselves in a way that makes it difficult to achieve our goal.

What are these issues? Here are some that are critical to our survival as a nation. I make no claim to omniscience, so there are probably others. However, we shall start with these for your consideration:

One of the most pressing problems our country is facing is the economic doldrums where the Federal Reserve and members of the banking community seem to be profiting nicely while the rest of the country is struggling for survival. They are continuously throwing new money in to the system as production plummets. Anyone with an understanding of non-Keynesian economics knows this will never work. The banks, even foreign banks and governments, are bailed out and the American citizen sees his dollars devalued as inflation depletes their purchasing power, and loans are still difficult to get.

There seems to be agreement on the need to rid the nation of ObamaCare. It is a threat to both our health and our wealth. It is modeled after ineffective European plans that have been shortening lives, while increasing pain and suffering for years. The difference in the candidates is how aggressively they would pursue killing off this threat to our freedoms.

Many progressives would like to paint conservatives as unconcerned about the environment. The is a complete misrepresentation of the freedom fighters mindset. Some of the most enthusiastic conservationists are gun loving hunters who have a longstanding appreciation for our wildlife and woodlands. It’s just that we don’t jump every time a pseudo-scientist comes up with a “could happen” speculative article. We also respect our hard working brothers and sisters more than academic posers and pretenders. This determines our interpretation of the size and power of the Environmental Protection Agency.

The restrictive EPA is only one aspect of the quest for jobs badly needed by so many. Evironmental regulations are not the only rules restricting the growth of employment in our great land. Unions currently are tying up various job producers, and are poised to grow even more powerful. The administrations solution to the high unemployment rate is to simply increase unemployment benefits. Jobs, including manufacturing jobs, are the long term answer. A shrinking working population simply cannot support a growing non-working population.

There are various views on the most productive foreign policy. We currently have members of our armed forces all around the the world with a price our struggling economy cannot afford. Some see it as a pride inducing projection of American power throughout the world. In some ways this is not necessarily a bad thing, considering all the bad guys running countries around the world. The problem is, we just and afford to throw our power around indiscriminately as the world’s police force anymore and must focus where dangers really exist.

On one end of the spectrum we have a view that the says we have nothing to fear from a religion whose holy book says things like:

“O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he among you that turns to them for friendship is of them.” Sura 5:51

“O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be unyielding to them; and their abode is hell, and evil is the destination.” Sura 9:73

“Believers! wage war against such of the infidels as are your neighbors, and let them find you rigorous: and know that God is with those who fear him.” Sura 9:123

The Muslim Brotherhood that has recently increased its power throughout the middle east makes it clear that jihad is their life. The other end of the spectrum recognizes that there are people out to conquer the world… not because we attacked them first… not because they are treated badly in our country, but because we are the infidels that must be defeated or destroyed in the name of Allah. Foreign policy must be based on real threats… not just feel good policies.

The border seems to be one area that generates general agreement among average Americans, but seems to scare most politicians. While I realize we need more courageous politicians, we don’t have time for these beltway insiders to develop backbone. Someone needs to take a stand to close the border, and figure out how to stop the flow of illegal aliens and drugs. Then work out a plan to deal with those that are already among us.

Then we always have to deal with courts who have this nasty habit of throwing a monkey wrench in attempts to deal with these problems. They represent a law unto themselves taking the United States in a direction only acceptable to politicians, academics and those seeking to live off the efforts of others. If we do not deal with the judiciary, they will short circuit almost every attempt we make at fixing the country.

I realize I have not touched on the social issues to this point. Most of those running have indicated that they believe killing babies is wrong. The verbal support is good, but it is their character that will determine how far we see this support go. As for homosexual marriage, that is an open question to some. The thought of making it a state issue has some merit except for the reciprocal recognition that would eventually be required by some judge who has his own sense of right and there-is-no-wrong. These issues do not get a lot of attention, but may speak more to the nature of the country under their leadership. The formerly main stream media treats these issues as settled and deviation from their norm as anti-social behavior, so we probably won’t see them addressed often except in a derogatory sense.

The last thing we will consider is the character of the man or woman seeking the office. It is a vital element in the selection of a candidate. Even the best of promises are meaningless unless the candidate has the determination to live up to their promises. However, character alone, without understanding and ability won’t get the job done.

So, I’ve come to the conclusion that, despite what some supporters will tell us, that there is no perfect candidate. They all have good points and most have some failings.

Forget the names, look at your favorite man or woman, not just rhetoric. Look at their records and positions. Compare them to the issues that are most important to you. Perhaps then we can come together and defeat the abomination in the White House without destroying each other in the process.

A while back a Facebook friend made the comment that she was just so frustrated with the war in Afghanistan and thought we should just nuke the whole mountainous area.

A while back a Facebook friend made the comment that she was just so frustrated with the war in Afghanistan and thought we should just nuke the whole mountainous area. Someone else commented that here solution was not “socially acceptable”. Now I’m not going to get into the virtue of using nuclear weapons to root out Taliban, or any jihadists in the area, but I do want to look at the reason for rejecting the idea. We all want to be accepted socially… which is another way of saying that we have developed an, often overwhelming acquiescence to peer pressure.

However, when we see that killing unborn babies is socially acceptable and prayer is not… when we see that it is acceptable to our country’s ivory tower elites for people to sneak into our country and take jobs from out of work Americans and inflate our welfare rolls, while those trying to protect our country and culture are condemned as narrow minded racists… one wonders why anyone with any principles would concern themselves with being “socially acceptable”, or “politically correct” as it is known in academic and media circles.

This striving for social acceptance has even infected many churches as they attempt to appeal to those in the outside world. Some have removed cross from their buildings, adopted secular appearing logos and… worst of all, toned down the gospel of truth and grace so as not to offend the outside world.

My own church has taken some heat for a television ad where the pastor makes the proclamation that we won’t blend with society and quietly fit into place. Romans 12:2 tells us “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (NIV). There are just some people who believe that churches, like children in the old saying, should be seen and not heard.

We have permitted society to tell us what ideas are acceptable and which ones are not. We are told some thoughts should not be expressed in polite company. We are told that some people should not be offended… that offending someone is worse than speaking the truth. Unless one is a Muslim, we are told that we should keep our religious practices to ourselves. This should come as no surprise as the Bible tells us that the Gospel is an offense to those who are perishing… and we are afraid of hurting someone’s feelings when there is so much more at stake!

Last September, the Chaplain for the Richmond (VA) Fire Department gave the invocation before the Sprint Cup race. He had the audacity to pray in the name of Jesus, and mentioned Him at least one more time during the prayer. This year at the fall race, a local pastor did the same thing. Had this be done within the hallowed halls of academia or at a progressive political function thunderbolts of anger would have sprung forth from the eyes of the audience while tar and feathers would be prepared for the offender. As it was, the man was in the presence of flag loving, patriotic Americans who understood good things come from the Father, not the government. The earth did not open up and swallow him up and the earth kept on turning.

We can take instruction from this. We do not need to conform to the wishes and expectations of the world around us. In fact, we are told not to conform, but to be transformed. (Romans 12:2) This is particularly true when society is pushing us to in directions that we know are clearly wrong. It becomes, not just an option, but our duty. Glenn Beck tells us to “question with boldness”. When faced with questions of right and wrong, we need to act with boldness as well.

The leftist, liberals, progressives, or whatever we wish to call them, are attempting to shackle us with their false reality and their vision of the world by restricting how we describe this world and express our values. They understand that by controlling terminology, they can control the discourse and the outcome. We have already seen that in playing along with their system, we are trying to gain the blessing of those who will never agree with us or even accept our right to be heard in public. The choice is ours… do we live with their chains, or do we throw them off and pursue truth and justice?

“No one who looks realistically at our world today could think that Christians can afford to go on with business as usual, ignoring the profound crisis of faith which has overtaken our society, or simply trusting that the patrimony of values handed down by the Christian centuries will continue to inspire and shape the future of our society,”

Pope Benedict XVI recently told US Bishops, “The present moment can thus be seen, in positive terms, as a summons to exercise the prophetic dimension of your episcopal ministry by speaking out, humbly yet insistently, in defense of moral truth, and offering a word of hope, capable of opening hearts and minds to the truth that sets us free.”

On another occasion, he said, “No one who looks realistically at our world today could think that Christians can afford to go on with business as usual, ignoring the profound crisis of faith which has overtaken our society, or simply trusting that the patrimony of values handed down by the Christian centuries will continue to inspire and shape the future of our society,”

He was correct on both counts. His truth does not only apply to the business in the Catholic church. It applies to the Christian church as a whole. An entire industry made up of lawyers and bureaucrats is dedicated to pushing Christians in to background of irrelevance. In an attempt to be cooperative and non-confrontational, so many good men have backed away from from the role assigned to us in Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” (NIV)

This withdrawal from the battle for the soul of our country… and the soul’s of the population has been accompanied by a confusion of who really is the church and who is the mission field. Many have taken the words of Rick Warren as an addendum to the gospel and fled from teachings and symbols that have long marked the presence and influence of God’s people in the land.

Churches have taken down crosses. They have turned their buildings into little more than conference centers. They have adopted Madison Avenue promotion techniques and ridiculous new logos and symbols that leave the viewer with, at best, a vague idea of what they are and what they stand for.

Much preaching, even among television “evangelists” avoids subjects that might be offensive to non-believers. People may be turned off, stop attending and… stop contributing if they are confronted about such things as sin, abortion, homosexuality and corruption. One well known TV preacher who has fallen on hard times often said he only wanted to talk about God’s goodness and didn’t like to deal with the “sin stuff”.

What these well meaning pastors have done is make the mistake of thinking they have a church, the body of Christ, when in reality, they have a mission field before them that needs the straight message from the scripture. It is not surprising then, that much of the church is ineffective, when much of it not really the church at all, but a body in dire need of the whole gospel of grace and truth.

Our country is falling apart. Babies are looked on as an inconvenience and thrown away. We have corruption at all levels of government and industry and hardly anyone seems to be bothered by it. Then, when people do come to God’s house, they do not hear a message that pricks their conscience – they hear one that makes them feel good about themselves.

The late Christian rocker Larry Norman often told his audiences that he heard many people say reading the Bible makes them feel good. Norman said it made him feel bad… as he realized how far he fell short of living up to God’s plan for him. It is only when we, as individuals feel bad about our shortcomings that we will change our ways. It is only when we, as a nation, recognize how far we have fallen and recognize the need to change our ways.

How can we change our ways as a nation if we don’t learn of the difference between right and wrong and the need to pursue right. Allowing us to continue feeling good about ourselves will just keep us going down the path to destruction.

Patriot preachers in the years leading up to the first American revolution were unashamed to expound on the need for godly, principled leadership and the concept that freedom, like all good things, was the gift from our Creator.

Contrary to the revisionist history coming out of academia, these revolutionaries were, for the most part, Christians who heard the words of the likes of John Witherspoon and John Peter Muhlenberg, and understood the dignity and value our Creator invested in each one of us. It was a dignity and value not to be trampled on by a despotic monarch… or any heavy handed, dictatorial government for that matter.

In the late 1700s, powerful preachers led the way to liberty. It can happen again.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed — a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’” (Romans 1:16-17 NIV)

We have gotten ourselves in the mess we are in because we have strayed from the Biblical principles and values that led us to greatness. It is only by returning to these values we can survive as a free society. How, then, can we return to these values unless we have courageous pastors to preach the unapologetic word? The side effect of the revival that will save our country is that there will be far fewer of our friends and neighbors regretting their eternal destination. Isn’t that the point of preaching in the first place?

The fact that Michelle Obama’s appearance at the final NASCAR race of the season did not send a Chris Matthewsesque tingle up the legs of the assembled throng should come as no surprise to anyone who understands the American sport of big time stock car racing. The fans love their country. They are proud of their country. They are a self reliant breed. Most are firm defenders of the second amendment – the one that insures all the others. They also cling to their God, not the government when times get rough.

The reactions to this antipathy are more interesting. Both the first lady and her husband have made clear their disdain for patriotic, independent, Christian citizens like the ones who enjoy the sights and sounds of NASCAR. Mrs. Obama and Joe Biden’s wife had the audacity to show up at this event that decided the season championship. They surrounded a noble veteran who works to ease the transition of other returning veterans. Yet the race fans who paid $50, $100 or more to be there and watch their heroes battle each other on the one and a half mile Homestead Miami oval, did not take kindly to the intrusion of these two women that represent everything our country is not… at least did not used to be.

Given this oil and water mixture, the reaction could be predicted… and has been predicted. I, myself, called NASCAR, suggesting it was a mistake to have these beltway intruders take part in Sunday’s proceedings. The organization decided to honor the dishonorable and serve as a platform for the President’s re-election campaign. A campaign to destroy everything these fans hold dear.

It is interesting that when people reach a certain level in life they tend to regard themselves as members of an elitist club. That membership, for many, means that to keep their position, they support other members of the club. The fact that the management of both the sanctioning body and the track thought it was a good idea to have this socialist who was never proud of her country until the radicals in the Democrat Party gave her husband the presidential nomination is evidence that this ostentatious society does not view the world the same way the “common folk” see it – or even the way the drivers who risk their lives chasing a dream see it.

Also not surprising is the inability of the formerly mainstream media to understand the hostility of these little people who should be pleased that royalty should come down to be with them. They thought the reception their heroine was disrespectful and shameful. While it may not be anything to be rejoicing over, this behavior is what the regular people will do when they are, at last, given the opportunity to make their feelings known.

This is apparently not acceptable behavior when it comes to criticism of their chosen one. The peasants are to be quietly respectful and accept what the ruling class gives them. NASCAR fans do not regard themselves as dependent on any self appointed upper class group. They love their freedom and they jolly well intend to keep it. They could not be silent.

Even some with no use for the White House resident have been critical of the negative reaction of the crowd. They believe it is disrespectful of the position of first lady even if the one occupying it is unworthy of public adulation. It gives a bad impression of the race fans. It gives a bad impression of the American people. They believe civility is an important virtue, even overriding the outrage of our treatment by the current regime.

It might be good to remember that right and wrong are really more important than smiling and at each other and pretending everything is alright, and we can resolve our differences by talking things over and negotiating with those of good will who see things differently. The problem then, comes down to accepting the things done to us are coming from those who really are looking out for our best interests.

I have not been able to make that leap of faith.

Herman Cain has committed an unforgivable sin. He is a successful conservative black American who has risen to the point where he is a serious contender for the position of President of the United States… and he has done this without the help of the Democrat Party. He has not relied upon minority set asides or government programs that treated him as less qualified or less capable than the progressive masters whose task, they believe, is to bring all of us into their vision of equality and submission.

If one listens to their rhetoric, one never hears the words freedom or happiness. They are revealing their kinship with French revolutionaries whose motto “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” led them to take bloody revenge on anyone they saw as their oppressor. This is in distinct contrast to the American founders desire for “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. These two approaches revealed volumes about the mind sets and motivations of the two uprisings that took place at the end of the eighteenth century. The French wanted to make their masters pay. The Americans just wanted them to go away.

Because of this desire for revenge, public beheadings were a popular pastime for a while. It was as if the pitiful peasants lot was made more bearable by seeing a perceived enemy come to a swift and violent end from a falling blade. While it may have made some of the poor feel better for a short while, it did nothing to improve his basic way of life. It was in this anger that a certain righteousness was felt that gave license to perform all sorts of atrocities.

It should also be noted that the French Revolution was also a secular result of the Age of Reason, while the driving force behind the American Revolution was the firm belief that all rights came from our Creator and they should not be infringed upon by a human government. As we have seen in the intervening years, the American experiment produced a more stable and prosperous country than the one based upon man alone. It has been living proof of Blaise Pascal’s observation that “The supreme function of reason is to show man that some things are beyond reason.”

Unfortunately, our opponents in our struggle to retain our freedom have not achieved this understanding of reason and the limitation of human intellect. Not only do they not understand their own limitations, but they do not understand the limitations of human decency or even honesty. The liberal progressives tend to be so focused on the world they wish to impose on the rest of us that whatever they think will get the job done, is justified. Just recently Donnie Deutsch declared of the occupy movement, “The other thing it needs, and I don’t want this to come out the wrong way — not needs, but what will happen — if we think back to the late 60s, what is the most stirring image of all the rebellion that happened? What do we remember? Kent State.”

For those who feel the sight of young people bleeding on the ground is a desirable image, the idea of destroying an honest American is not only of little cause for concern, but it might even be fun. Hence… it is now time for Clarence Thomas, volume two. For those who remember the dog and pony show the left brought out in a failed attempt to derail another successful black conservative, we saw Anita Hill go into detail after conflicting detail about how the soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice made inappropriate and unwanted sexual advances to her. Arlen Specter, before he ventured over to the dark side, did admirable work exposing the fallacies in the attack on this fine gentleman’s character.

This time, they they are less specific, wanting the leading candidate to give an answer to nebulous charges they refuse to reveal to protect the “privacy of the victim”. Again, since they cannot show proof of their charges, they insist that it is simply the “seriousness of the charges” that disqualify Herman Cain from consideration.

For those who have been through the Leadership Institute course on handling negative information, we are expecting to see the falsified information trickling out over the next few days. They will not let us forget the “seriousness of the charges” but most likely, we will never hear exactly what the charges are.

Whether the reader is on the Cain Train or not, this attempt at a present day lynching shows that the people we are up against absolutely have to be defeated. Just like there can be no compromise with those who want to kill us, there can be no compromise with those who want to destroy our freedom. A third party may be attractive, especially if we cannot put the Republican establishment in their place, but it just will just keep this deranged Marxist in office. We just have to work together to get the best non-Romney candidate to represent the interests of freedom loving Americans… then send Barry Soetoro and gang back to Chicago… or wherever.

We do not want, as the newspapers say, a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world.

Sunday morning as I sat in church listening to the choir singing about our unchanging God, it occurred to me why even those who say they are open to any and every new idea are so closed minded when it comes to the Christian influence on society. We live in a world where attempts to rewrite our history run rampant on almost every college campus. We have judges deciding cases based on their “new and improved” ideas rather than on the Constitution that is to be the basis of our justice and government. Traditional values are not only disregarded, they are openly scorned by the elites in media and government.

Refugees from the sixties protests have taken shelter in the academic world where they have done their best to complete the job they began fifty some years ago. In that time our real heroes have been rendered irrelevant and leaders of the their attempted revolution have been revered. The morality of the day is, in reality, no morality at all as their actions are guided not so much by doing that which feels good, as they tell us, but to show that they are free from old fashioned restraints that have been honored for centuries.

In their efforts to demonstrate their rejection of Christianity, many modern day “free thinkers” have embraced most everything else. They have even gone so far as to praise the introduction of Islam and it’s sharia law as being a welcome addition to our society. If they really looked into what they were supporting, the homosexuals among them would be unhappy with their fate in Muslim societies. Being thrown from high building tends to shorten one’s life expectancy. Those addicted to alcohol, drugs or sex, would likewise find themselves in a sad situation with these newcomers in control.

British writer and apologist G.K. Chesterton, witnessed this trend when he wrote, “There are those who hate Christianity and call their hatred an all-embracing love for all religions.” The acceptance of all religions except the one that actually works is an ironic hypocrisy that somehow escapes the intelligentsia as they look down from it’s ivory tower perch on us poor uneducated masses.

Chesterton has also told us that “Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.” While we might find it hard to believe, but there is a lot of truth to this statement. Many of the greatest pro-abortion politicians will tell us that they agree there are too many abortions, but they say to restrict them would be an injustice to these same poor uneducated masses that cannot control themselves. Many homosexuals don’t want to live their lifestyles but they tell us they are born with their sexual preferences – preferences they can’t change and preferences they are not responsible for. Therefore, they cannot be wrong!

We are living in a time similar to that described in the book of Judges, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” (21:25 KJV) These are the values of today, everyone believes they can be their own judge of right and wrong. They criticize the church for not changing with the times. Actually some churches have changed with the time and those that have are looked on with favor by those who reject the gospel, but are willing to accept a social organization.

Churches such as this, that are to the salt of the earth are described as “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.” (Luke 14:34-35 NIV) They are accepted, but they are useless.

The unchanging God that tells us how to, not only obtain salvation, but to live in this world. We can change, forgetting the points of Christianity that others find troublesome. The secular progressives of the world would love that… they would have won and short circuited the message of the gospel. Or we could just sit down quietly and stay behind the church doors. This would also make the ruling elites happy as we would not be bothering them with godly morality and wisdom. Or… the church can, once again, become the beacon of light and hope that is was designed to be from the beginning. Our God did not change. If the church is not pursuing this path… which one has changed? Again Chesterton understood, “We do not want, as the newspapers say, a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world.” We have the answers to all of life’s problems and our country’s ills, yet for too many do nothing to share these answers.

Looking at the world around us, how many of our problems would simply vanish, or at least be greatly diminished if the fallacies of liberal humanist were to be addressed and the truth be known? Poverty, broken families, crime – they are all related to a rejection of the Creator and His Word. To those who wish to excuse their unbelief because of imperfections in the Christians they have known, Chesterton had an answer for that as well, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.”
