Rumors have abounded for months that our illustrious President, caring more for the welfare of the undocumented Democratic voters than the American people, was looking to bypass congress one more time and create an amnesty plan by executive order and regulation. The formerly mainstream media and the administration itself has continuously told us this is not the case. However, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has uncovered a draft copy of a memo created by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, a division of the Department of Homeland Security.

Toward the bottom page 2, under the heading Options, the paper states, “The following options – used alone or in combination – have the potential to result in meaningful immigration reform absent legislative action.” Reading further reveals multiple layers of strategy to impose the will of the elite on the unwilling and unaccepting citizens of the land.

Each of these options requires, we are told, “development of specific written guidance and/or regulatory language, implementation protocols…” One can only recall the old adage, “more regulation, less freedom”. Yet this is only the beginning.

The paper outlines various paths to turn the unenforced laws written to protect the legal Americans into guidelines that make the agency charged with this task into an agency charged with looking after a new and expanded class of protected individuals. They want to do this subtlety, not by changing existing laws and regulations, but by tweaking details within them.

They want to raise some standards here, lower some standards there and revising definitions, basically gutting the protections built into our immigration system… making those who have spent the time and money to complete the process according to our laws look like major league chumps. It could be rightly argued that the process is too involved and convoluted to be practical, but that is the a discussion for another day.

Reading blogs, news stories and listening to the chattering class does not compare to reading the source document. Read through it. See what the inmates who have taken over the asylum want to do to our country. We must shine the light of truth on the nefarious plans they want to implement in the dark of night. We need to make this light of truth continuous and bright so we can watch the roaches scatter into their hiding places.

The only chance we have is to create public outcry loud enough to be heard round the world. Harassing our elected representatives will have limited impact as they probably won’t get to vote on this scheme, but the more we can put the fear of the voters in the members of the Presidents own party, we may be able put a crimp in their plans. Beyond this, all we have left is to seek injunctions to keep them from making the illegal legal against the will of the people.

All the while we need to seek guidance from the creator who gave us this great country on how to keep it… and not insult Him by giving it away without a fight.

Just looking over the yesterday’s news makes me wonder what country I’m living in. It certainly is not the country I grew up in. Each story shows how, incrementally, we are giving up one freedom after another. I say giving them up, because as each abomination is visited upon us, we fuss a bit, then adjust the line backward that we will not permit our government to cross. While the British monarch was rightfully called a tyrant, his impositions were nothing compared to the governmental intrusions we are tolerating today. Let’s look at a few of the stories:

Judge Blocks Key Portions of Arizona Illegal Immigration Law

Talking heads will be ranting about this one for weeks as a Clinton appointed judge followed the Democratic put a hold on some key provisions of the bill, such as the portion that recognized the illegality of an illegal alien applying for a job he is not legally entitled to hold. If employers are supposed to be checking on the eligibility of a job applicant, where is the logic of permitting those who do not qualify to apply in the first place?

Sure employers should be held accountable, but should not the other half of the combination be called into account as well? Considering the fact that these are unregistered Democratic voters, the picture becomes a little more clear. In spite of the wishes of the good people of Arizona and the support of most of the rest of the country, an activist judge ignored the law and backed the Obama regime in holding the door open to those who ignore our laws and national well being, yet hold the key to more progressive control.

Since we are ruled by the concept of “judicial review”, it would be good to review the judge’s ruling, and compare it to the law. See if it makes any sense to you.

Court Upholds Expulsion of Counseling Student Who Opposes Homosexuality

Another court moved us further down the path to not only ignoring the Christian heritage that our founders felt was critical to the prosperity of our new country, but making belief in such Biblical principles reason for discrimination. Eastern Michigan University expelled Julea Ward for the crime of being a Christian and actually believing the Bible when it says homosexuality is an abomination. One has to wonder if the university would be so quick to condemn a Muslim student holding the same belief.

The US Disrict Court Judge George Caram Steeh noted, “In the case of Ms. Ward, the university determined that she would never change her behavior and would consistently refuse to counsel clients on matters with which she was personally opposed due to her religious beliefs – including homosexual relationships.” The conclusion being that Christian values are harmful to our society in general, and to a protected class of Democratic supporters in particular.

It wasn’t always this way. Charles Carroll, signer of the Declaration of Independence, noted “Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure… are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments.” Thomas Jefferson, who many wish to belittle by calling only a deist, said, “No nation has ever existed or been governed without religion. Nor can be. The Christian religion is the best religion that has been given to man and I, as Chief Magistrate of this nation, am bound to give it the sanction of my example.”

As we have moved further away from the values of the Bible… judge for yourselves if we have less crime, violence and poverty along with a smoother running society.

SEC Says New Financial Regulation Law Exempts it From Public Disclosure

Along with expanded authority to stick its bureaucratic nose into the workings of American businesses, The Securities and Exchange Commission is now claiming immunity from public view of its activities. They are saying FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests do not have to be honored.

In the investment field where information is the currency that keeps the market flowing, such a policy could be deadly for both corporations and investors. If an investigation uncovers wrong doing, where no action is taken, the public is ill served by this withholding of vital information. Likewise, if a company is found to be clean, this too should be public information.

So now we have a group of potentially politically driven bureaucrats sitting behind closed doors poking through confidential data, making decisions and taking actions with no exposure and no accountability. This is not the American way!

DOJ Accused of Stalling on MOVE Act for Voters in Military

The article begins “The Department of Justice is ignoring a new law aimed at protecting the right of American soldiers to vote, according to two former DOJ attorneys who say states are being encouraged to use waivers to bypass the new federal Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act.”

In the most dishonorable action of the day, our Department of Justice is spending more time working on ways around the bill that would help ensure our men and women in uniform would get absentee ballots in time and that they would be counted. These are people who have signed up to protect our country at the cost of their lives, if necessary, and they don’t even get the respect of the powerful people they are protecting.

Because relatively small numbers of our military would find themselves voting for the current administration, this is as blatant an injustice as the desire to import illegal immigrants to bolster Democratic vote totals. While the majority of Americans still believes in the rule of law, it is obvious many in Washington do not.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Yesterday certainly was a depressing news day for those who love their country and the freedom our constitution stands for. However, I believe there is still the spark of the American spirit that brought our country through the Great Depression, the early days of World War II when everything seemed to be going against us and the poisonous sixties when the Vietnam War gave the radicals, intent on destroying our nation, a focal point where they could spread their hateful propaganda. These same radicals have moved from outside and annoying agitators to putting their devious schemes into practice with predictably disastrous results.

I don’t have to tell most readers that we cannot give our children and grandchildren a land ruled by these megalomaniacs. The followers of Martin Luther King understood that they had to make sacrifices to achieve their goal of freedom and equality. Where the law said a black man could not go… they went. Many went to jail. Many were beaten. Some were killed. They wanted freedom and equality so badly, they paid the price. This man who began with many calling him a trouble maker… and worse is now honored as a national treasure not only by black Americans, but by all who understand that he helped them face injustice in our county and help dig it out. How badly do we want our children to grow up and raise their children in a free country?

There are two more things we need to do. First, we need to recognize who our enemy is. As much as we may be repulsed by the whole set of pretenders occupying positions of power in Washington, they are not the real enemy. We must work for their failure and defeat. But Ephesians 6:12 reminds us “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” As we put action to our fight to retain the unalienable rights given to us by our loving creator, we cannot forget to lay the groundwork for victory.

Prayer is the only way to win the spiritual battle before us. I’m sure by now most readers can quote II Chronicles 7:14, but it is always good to remember, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

As Abraham found when he was pleading for the safety of Sodom and Gomorrah, the entire perverse population would have been spared if just ten righteous men could be found in the cities. They were not there and the cities were destroyed, but they are here. May they be found preparing for this spiritual battle on their knees. The Pentecostals have a term for it. They call it being “prayed up”.

It is no hyperbole to say that the consequences of the recently passed “Obamacare” bills by the Congress will be horrific. In fact, I’m not even sure that the English language contains a word sufficiently suitable to describe exactly how dreadful the consequences of this new national health care monstrosity will actually be.

With all its faults, America’s health care system is the finest in the world. Why else would rich people in Canada, Australia, Great Britain, and elsewhere come to the US when the medical chips are really down? Socialized medicine doesn’t work for them and it won’t work for the United States.

The negative effects of Obamacare are already starting to take effect. Across the country, tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of physicians are making preparations to retire. I would be willing to predict that the vast majority of physicians who are financially able to retire will do so before 2014 (the year Obamacare officially takes full effect). And who can blame them? Not me.

Think of it: under Obamacare, physicians will be told to increase their patient load by at least one-third, or maybe even half. Imagine a physician with a government-mandated patient load of maybe 5,000 or 6,000 people (or even more than that). Imagine some federal bureaucrat demanding that the physician spend not more than, say, 4 minutes with each patient. Imagine that physician being told what he or she will not be allowed to prescribe or what they will not be allowed to treat. Imagine the health care Nazis micromanaging not only patient care and treatment, but also wages and pricing. If you think insurance companies have too much control over medical care now, just wait until government-mandated (and controlled) medical care is implemented. In other words, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! How could any self-respecting, conscientious physician practice medicine in an environment such as that? They couldn’t–and they won’t. And this will create a shortage of physicians like you won’t believe, which only serves to push the patient load per doctor and quality of care per patient to unsustainable levels. In other words, prepare for assembly-line, one-size-fits-all medical care!

And don’t expect any relief from the courts over inferior medical treatment, either. With the federal government in charge of medical care, the patient’s right to recover damages from malpractice will be substantially limited. After all, when is the last time anyone you know was able to successfully sue the federal government for anything? The feds are immune, Brother. And that means any federally-mandated and controlled health care will be largely immune from any claim of malpractice–or at least that damages will be strictly limited.

Plus, placing your medical care in the lap of the federal government allows the feds to “share” even more of your personal information with hundreds of its alphabet police agencies. Will your medical information be shared with the BATFE, for example? If so, could some of that information be used to deny your right to lawfully purchase a firearm? You can count on it! Good grief! Guess which agency has been chosen to implement and enforce Obama’s national health care program? The IRS! If that doesn’t send goose bumps up your spine, you don’t have one!

I cannot say it forcefully enough: the newly created Obamacare bills are among the most evil and most reprehensible laws ever passed in Congress, the result of which will destroy quality health care (except for the rich and powerful); create perhaps the largest federal bureaucracy (complete with ubiquitous government enforcers) ever seen; increase the size and scope of the IRS to harass, seize, and imprison; and drive up health care costs, federal spending, federal deficits, and, yes, taxes.

To make matters worse, the Obamacare bills are already being used to force US taxpayers to fund abortions. According to LifeNews.com, “The Obama administration has officially approved the first instance of taxpayer funded abortions under the new national government-run health care program. This is the kind of abortion funding the pro-life movement warned about when Congress considered the bill.”

See the report at:

http://lifenews.com/nat6531.html

So, what can we do?

First of all, we should be demanding that our State governors and legislators REFUSE TO PARTICIPATE in any national health care system. I am saying it: individual states should tell the federal government in no uncertain terms that their states will not participate in Obamacare. Period. Furthermore, the states should stubbornly withhold any and all state monies that would be used to underwrite national health care. Suing the federal government is not enough. STATES MUST REFUSE TO PARTICIPATE! Are you listening, Bill McCollum?

Furthermore, I encourage readers to immediately contact your US congressman (woman) and demand that he or she support a discharge petition introduced by Congressman Steve King of Iowa, which paves the way for Congress to repeal H.R. 3590, the first national health care bill (there were actually two separate national health care bills, which became law seven days apart). At last count, the petition already has some 133 signatures. 218 are needed.

Obviously, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is doing everything she can to block the discharge petition, but if 218 votes are gathered, she would not be able to stop it. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the bill can still be overturned and repealed.

I strongly urge everyone to learn the details of how many in Congress are currently working to overturn this healthcare monstrosity by reading this report in World Net Daily:

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=176077

First, look to see if your House member has yet to sign the petition. If not, do everything you can to put pressure on him or her to sign the petition. Inform your relatives, friends, neighbors, fellow churchmen, pastors, co-workers, etc., about the need to support Rep. King’s discharge petition and repeal Obamacare before it’s too late.

The other thing our congressmen should do is support Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-TX) “Private Option Health Care Act” (H.R. 5444): “To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 and to replace it with provisions reforming the health care system by putting patients back in charge of health care.” This bill would repeal both H.R. 3590 and H.R. 4872 (the second national health care bill). But beyond that, Paul’s bill would actually provide commonsense, freedom-friendly alternatives to Obama’s socialized medicine.

Learn about Dr. Paul’s bill here:

http://www.ronpaul.com/legislation/private-option-health-care-act/

Folks, this is not a partisan issue. The future of our children and grandchildren’s health care, our nation’s overall economic well-being, and even the freedom of our posterity is at stake. This cannot wait until the November elections, either. We must insist that Congress act NOW to repeal Obamacare. Even many Democrats now recognize that passing this abominable legislation was a very serious mistake and are willing to reconsider their support. Please contact your House member NOW! Here is a convenient web page containing the contact information for all 435 US House members:

There is a movement afoot that has kept pretty much under the radar, that will take us one more step toward establishing national government supremacy over the free and sovereign states. It is called the National Popular Vote movement. Up to this point, such conservative bastions as Massachusetts, Illinois, New Jersey, Hawaii, Washington and the Peoples Republic of Maryland have approved the cockamamie plan to ignore the voters of their state and instruct their electors to cast their votes for the winner of the national popular vote.

I will have to admit that there are some aspects of this that does seem to be appealing. Who could be opposed to the President being selected by the majority of voters? This is the way it is meant to be. However, when you consider that nine or ten states could make the voters in the rest of the country irrelevant, it doesn’t seem to be such a good idea. What follows from this is that there would be even less incentive for national candidates to deign to visit the smaller, less populous states.

Polling tells us roughly 70% of the American people would be in favor of simply going by the total votes for each candidate. I have no doubt that the numbers support this. What I wonder is if these good people would be so agreeable if the question were asked how they felt about representatives from their state casting votes contrary to the majority of their neighbors. As with any poll, the way you phrase a question has a great influence on the results.

The goal of this movement is to have states with sufficient votes, 270, to win in the electoral college agree to cast their ballots for the candidate with the most popular votes… then no matter what the rest of the country wants or the constitution demands, is beside the point. Again, the smaller states, or those wishing to honor the will of their people, would be effectively neutered.

The beauty of our electoral system is that, despite the apparent unfairness and potential for an election like we had in 2000 that drove Algore supporters to distraction, is that our founders were concerned that voters of every state would have their voices heard. Now, as with so much going on in our political world, expediency and desired results are taking the place of faithfulness to the process that has served us well for so many years.

Some may wonder whether sparing the feelings of the folks in East Overshoe, SD is worth the danger that of electing a President who did not represent a majority of the people. It should be be noted that Bill Clinton was a 42% president. For those who believe there may be such a thing as ACORN inspired voter fraud, the segmentation of vote counting by state builds a firewall around each area where this may occur. Instead of polluting the entire voting pool, these nefarious deeds would be confined to an individual state.

While this is bad enough, it would be far worse to have the excess votes dilute the will of everyone else in the country. On the other hand, nationalizing the process would reduce the influence of unions on industrial (or formerly industrial) states like Ohio and Pennsylvania. However, would we take that approach… that of looking for a particular outcome rather than supporting the integrity of the process, we would be like progressives who value results over purity of process. This cannot be if our country, as we know it, is to survive and prosper.

Whether electing our President as a national event or one retaining our current practice of actually have an election in each state for people to represent the will of that state is a good idea or not, those promoting the idea obviously do not respect the constitution. As with so many of the actions of the current administration, they are attempting to do an end run around the document. If the electoral process is to be changed from the constitutionally sanctioned one, creating a new amendment would be the way to do it as it would assure more wide spread support than we get from the actions of several renegade states.

This is a legitimate debate. However, we cannot accept the idea of several state legislatures taking it upon themselves to make a change such as this without the appropriate discussion and without following due process. Let the debate begin… just don’t let the, hopefully, well meaning people slip this through without letting the world know what they are up to.

Among the limited duties of the US Government enumerated in the federal Constitution is Article. IV. Section. 4. “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.” However, for several decades now, the federal government in Washington, D.C., has shown great ambition and propensity to engage in activities to which it was never authorized, and to ignore those responsibilities with which it is specifically charged. The responsibility of the federal government to protect each State against invasion is a classic example of the latter.

Can anyone deny that the states on the US southern border (California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas) are being invaded by an ongoing onslaught of illegal aliens (many of whom are violent and dangerous criminals)? Somewhere between 12 and 30 million illegals now reside in the US. The entire country is feeling the effects of this invasion, but the Border States are literally under siege. And not only does the federal government do nothing to protect the states against this invasion, it actively wars against states such as Arizona when they attempt to protect themselves. Yes, I am saying it: the Washington, D.C., lawsuit against the State of Arizona’s immigration laws should be regarded as an act of war against the State of Arizona in particular, and against the states general in principle.

Please consider what Arizona and the other Border States are dealing with. According to published reports:

*In Los Angeles, 95% of all outstanding warrants for homicide in the first half of 2004 (which totaled 1,200 to 1,500) targeted illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) were for illegal aliens.

*Some private reports state that 83% of warrants for murder in Phoenix and 86% of warrants for murder in Albuquerque, New Mexico, are for illegal aliens. These reports cannot be verified, of course, because the feds discourage law enforcement agencies from releasing such statistics.

*At any given time, up to 75% of those on the most wanted list in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Albuquerque are illegal aliens.

*23% of all inmates in LA County detention centers are “deportable.”

*LA police estimate that violent gangs, such as MS-13 and 18th Street Gang, are “overwhelmingly” composed of illegal aliens.

To read one very enlightening testimony given before Congress by an expert on illegal immigration containing some of the above information (and much more), go here: http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/mac_donald04-13-05.htm

In addition, the Pew Hispanic Center (an organization friendly to all things Hispanic) reports that by 2007, “nearly one-quarter (24%) of all federal convictions” involve illegal aliens. And “among those sentenced for immigration offenses in 2007, 80% were Hispanic.” The PHC went on to report that illegal Hispanics “represented 29% of all federal offenders.”

See the report at: http://pewhispanic.org/reports/report.php?ReportID=104

Remember, too, that illegal aliens murder (on average) 12 American citizens EVERY DAY in the United States. That means illegals murder more Americans EVERY YEAR than in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan COMBINED, TO DATE. Plus, illegal aliens who drive drunk kill an additional 13 Americans EVERY DAY.

See the following report: http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53103

At this point, I will not again chronicle the financial costs and job losses exacted upon the American taxpayers by these invading illegals, but I encourage you to read a previous column I wrote on this subject. See it here: http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?p=1490

Plus, my web site contains an exhaustive page dealing with the problems and costs of the ongoing invasion by illegal aliens against this country. See it at: http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?page_id=123

Add to the above the blatant rhetoric and public statements of activists within radical Hispanic revolutionary groups such as La Raza that incessantly call for the “reconquista” of the southwestern United States, and one can easily discern that the invasion by (mostly) Mexicans in the US is much more than “poor people trying to find a better life.” There is some of that going on, of course, but the invasion also includes violent criminal gang members, drug dealers, human traffickers, rogue government troops, and covert provocateurs who are attempting to destabilize US cities and states, promote crime and violence, disrupt honest elections, and even facilitate revolution against the American citizenry.

And what does the Barack Obama administration do? Instead of obeying the Constitution and helping to protect the State of Arizona (and the other Border States), it sues the State of Arizona for trying to protect itself. Again, by this action, has not Washington, D.C., declared war against the State of Arizona (and, by implication, the other 49 independent, sovereign states)?

Please understand: Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and her allies in the Arizona legislature are not only defending their State, they are working to protect every State in the Union. Very obviously, the line is being drawn in the sand against a federal leviathan that increasingly shows blatant disregard for not only its own responsibilities and duties, but for the rights and freedoms of the individual sovereign states, and for the American citizenry as a whole.

And for those misguided Christians and pastors out there who are prone to defend and facilitate this invasion of illegal aliens in the name of Christian compassion, I would like to remind them of the words of our Lord, who said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1 KJV) Thus, our Savior plainly categorizes illegal aliens (or anyone who refuses to enter through a door–or across a border–honestly) as thieves and robbers. Unfortunately, many are also rapists, murderers, violent drug dealers, and slave merchants.

If Barack Obama had even a smidgen of honesty and integrity, instead of attacking the people of the State of Arizona for simply trying to defend themselves against a very real and dangerous foreign invasion, he would take seriously his responsibility to help protect them against this invasion, which Article IV. Section. 4. of the US Constitution clearly requires him to do.

This morning as I was leaving church I saw a woman wearing a beautiful orange sari. For those not familiar with the term, this colorful garment is the garb of many women in India. I struck up a conversation and found that she had been in the US for about two years. After getting some recommendations for some good Indian restaurants the conversation turned to the fact that she was looking forward to the arrival of her family – parents and sister, if I remember correctly – this summer.

I asked if they were coming to stay, or visiting. She said, “Oh no, it’s too expensive and complicated for them to stay here.” Now, not having met these people, I have no idea if they would even want to remain in our country, but the unfairness of the immigration situation in our country struck me at a personal level that went beyond the theoretical and academic discussions we tend to have about the subject.

Somehow, I was struck by the absurdity of erecting almost prohibitive barriers to people who will respect our laws and our people while many want to welcome with open arms those who disrespect our people, their property and our laws. We hear all sorts of claims of the unfairness of forcing employers to check on the legality of people in their employ or landlords required to do similar checks… or the necessity of proving legal status to receive social services which are nothing more than wealth transfer vehicles. Yet, where is the fairness or justice in confiscating the resources of Americans who obey the laws and giving them to those who don’t.

For those of us who have been paying attention, “comprehensive immigration reform” is nothing more than a scheme to enslave more (not even) citizens to the government transfer payments and lock them into the party that promises to maintain, and even increase, them. The immigration reform that would actually benefit our country would remove some of the obstacles for productive professionals from other countries and make sure everyone else would contribute to the well being of our nation.

Those who site the specious statistics that, on balance, we benefit from illegal immigration are obviously viewing them through a different lens than the average American who is footing the bill. We can easily see the increase in the number of Democratic voters the current administration seeks to gain by legalizing millions of law breakers. As far as Republicans who are aiding in this national suicide, I can see two possible reasons, and there may be more. The first is that they are in the pockets of businesses that benefit from cheap labor… those that are just as despicable as those who take American jobs and send them overseas. The second is that they don’t have the courage to stand up for want the citizens instinctively know is right. Which is worse, corruption or cowardice, I’m not sure.

In any case, the injustice of this situation and many others that come to mind, brought to memory something one of founders told us years ago. Thomas Jefferson advised, “When injustice becomes law, Resistance becomes duty.” Duty is an old fashioned concept to many who have been infected by the “me” culture, but unless we do our duty, what will we tell our enslaved grandchildren?

A few days ago, while visiting my old hometown, I took my mother to visit my fathers half sister in, what they used to call, a convalescent home. It’s a place where inmates are wheeled out of their rooms daily and many stare blankly down a hall or out a window. Others hold conversations with imaginary companions or grimace while twitching uncontrollably as time passes.

On one hand, these poor souls are fortunate that they have someone to feed, clothe and watch out for them. On the other hand, is this the retirement many have worked all their lives to enjoy? To be sure, most are no longer capable of living with any kind of autonomy. They could not survive on their own in the outside world. What none of them understands is that each one has a target clearly painted on his (or her) back, a large target.

The utilitarian mindset of the proposed keepers of our health care prevents them from seeing these people as human beings with intrinsic value simply because they exist. We are told that the government is capable of being the arbiter, endowed with the ability to decide who has sufficient “quality of life” to be worthy of a share of the limited resources available to preserve life.

While I would not trade place with any one in the facility, and, if the time came, I would almost prefer that my wife shoot me before committing me to such an awful place, I would not “pull the plug” on any of them. To be honest, I don’t believe our medical system would actively terminate their lives at this point. However, we have been warned that, due to increasing demands on available health care resources, little would be allocated to preserve such lives. Some one is in line to make these decisions… and they laughed with Sarah Palin spoke of death panels. Of course they won’t be called that, but they will decide who gets treatment and who does not… which means, who lives and who dies.

The whole utilitarian concept is based on the Darwinian theory that we are all just accidents of nature and have no real value save what we can contribute to the “greater good”. We are seen as slaves to our fellow human beings in general and to those who would be our masters, in particular. This is the end the academic and political figures have in mind when they march in lockstep to discredit any hint of a discussion of intelligent design, and the accompanying concept of individual value.

If each of us has unique and individual value, then it becomes the function of our government to look out for and protect the individual, rather than control him… and away goes the power the elites are so desperately seeking. It means there is a higher authority that our “leaders” must recognize and be accountable to. It means they must actually become the public servants their pose implies.

It also means that the unalienable rights our Declaration of Independence partially lists must be respected and protected. It means that representatives must actually represent rather than run roughshod over the will of their constituents. And, it means that they are, but stewards of the authority they have been granted – and they must use it wisely, for the good of all, not for personal gain.

So, while we will probably always need places to warehouse those who are unable to care for themselves, it needs to be done in a manner that respects who these people once were… and still are.

The Internet is abuzz with news that a US Senate committee has approved a bill that apparently gives the President authority to shut down the Internet. According to TechWorld.com, “A US Senate committee has approved a wide-ranging cybersecurity bill that some critics have suggested would give the US president the authority to shut down parts of the Internet during a cyberattack.”

The report continues by saying, “The bill, introduced earlier this month [by Senators Joe Lieberman, I-Connecticut, Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Thomas Carper, D-Delaware], would establish a White House Office for Cyberspace Policy and a National Center for Cybersecurity and Communications, which would work with private US companies to create cybersecurity requirements for the electric grid, telecommunications networks and other critical infrastructure.”

See the report at: http://tinyurl.com/obama-can-kill-web1

A PrisonPlanet.com report says this about the bill: “President Obama will be handed the power to shut down the Internet for at least four months without Congressional oversight if the Senate votes for the infamous Internet ‘kill switch’ bill, which was approved by a key Senate committee yesterday [June 24] and now moves to the floor.

“The Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, which is being pushed hard by Senator Joe Lieberman, would hand absolute power to the federal government to close down networks, and block incoming Internet traffic from certain countries under a declared national emergency.

“Despite the Center for Democracy and Technology and 23 other privacy and technology organizations sending letters to Lieberman and other backers of the bill expressing concerns that the legislation could be used to stifle free speech, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee passed the bill in advance of a vote on the Senate floor.”

The report continued by saying, “Fears that the legislation is aimed at bringing the Internet under the regulatory power of the U.S. government in an offensive against free speech were heightened further on Sunday, when Lieberman revealed that the plan was to mimic [communist] China’s policies of policing the web with censorship and coercion.

“‘Right now China, the government, can disconnect parts of its Internet in case of war and we need to have that here too,’ Lieberman told CNN’s Candy Crowley.

“While media and public attention is overwhelmingly focused on the BP oil spill, the establishment is quietly preparing the framework that will allow Obama, or indeed any President who follows him, to bring down a technological iron curtain that will give the government a foot in the door on seizing complete control over the Internet.”

Of course, pro-family groups have long lobbied Washington lawmakers to pass regulations restricting objectionable material on the Internet. But Senator Lieberman’s bill does more than restrict content on the Internet; it gives the federal government the power to completely shut it down.

My friends, if you have any love for liberty left in your heart, one thing is critical: the Internet must remain free–absolutely, totally unrestricted and free.

I realize that many upstanding, well-intentioned people believe that the federal government should restrict the content of the Internet. But Lieberman’s bill should provide ample warning for anyone who believes that the federal government can be trusted with ANY authority it is granted beyond that which is rightly ascribed to it via the US Constitution. Plus, given the propensities of the federal government these days, how long before the definition of “objectionable content” includes your freedom of speech and mine? In plain language, the federal government has no business restricting anything that the Constitution does not permit it to. If we cede the authority to restrict and regulate the content of the Internet to the federal government, we are also ceding to it the power to completely shut down the Internet. And this is exactly what Lieberman’s bill does.

The fact is, the Internet is the last bastion of free and unfiltered news and information. And, yes, I understand that there is much misinformation on the Internet. But that is the price of freedom. The individual must be given the liberty to discern right from wrong for himself. As a Christian, I believe this is why God provided the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit. And I for one do not need the federal government to try and replace either. And as far as objectionable material being available to children is concerned, this is what parents are for! Good grief! It is bad enough that the federal government has turned into Big Brother; are we going to allow it to become Big Momma and Big Daddy as well?

Ladies and gentlemen, it is essential that the free flow of information be allowed to continue over the Internet. The major news media is a finely filtered, tightly controlled medium that works harder at blocking news and information than it does at delivering it. Virtually every major television and radio network, along with the nation’s major newspapers, is an equal opportunity news-suppressor.

Just ask yourself, what would you have known regarding the MIAC report in Missouri had it not been for the Internet? What would you have known about the fiasco in Hardin, Montana, had it not been for the Internet? What would you know about the NAFTA superhighway without the Internet? If not for the Internet, would you ever have learned about the CFR’s plans for a North American Community? Where would the Tea Parties be today without the Internet? Where would Ron Paul’s campaign in 2008 have been without the Internet? Virtually everything you’ve learned regarding the State sovereignty momentum that continues to build across this country you’ve learned from the Internet. Except for a few courageous independent radio talk show hosts, and newspaper and magazine publishers, the vast majority of extremely relevant and critical information relative to freedom is gleaned from the Internet–not to mention the speed with which news and information is able to travel, thanks to the Internet.

It is no hyperbole to suggest that the Internet is the modern patriots’ version of the colonists’ Committees of Correspondence that sounded the clarion call for liberty and independence at the time of America’s founding. And now, power-mad elitists in Washington, D.C., are attempting to provide the federal government with the power and authority to shut it down at will.

What is even more disturbing is the way that private companies and special interest groups are willing to prostitute themselves before the federal government in order to get their own “piece of the pie.” Think of it: just about every freedom-grabbing, Big-Government action taken by these modern Machiavellians in Washington, D.C., is facilitated by willing CEOs from Big Business. They gladly assist Big Brother when he wants to spy on us, read our emails, listen to our phone calls, etc. They happily help Big Brother when he wants to eavesdrop inside our homes, examine our financial records, or snoop on our private lives. When Big Brother says, “Jump!” they ask, “How high?” Then–like these hypocrites in Washington, D.C.–they have the audacity to wave the flag on Independence Day and shout, “America: the land of the free!” As if they are blameless in freedom’s demise.

Mark it down: if the federal government ever shuts down the Internet, it will be business as usual for Washington, D.C., and its fellow travelers in Big Business; but We the People will be out of business, and so will freedom. Regardless of what side of any issue you and I may come from, it is critical that the Internet remains absolutely and totally free.
