Living In A Civilized Society

The traditional view of free speech that our constitution gave us is that in the United States, we have a right to say pretty much anything we want, even if it is stupid and foolish, and even if someone is offended by the comment. In recent years, this view has been adjusted to exclude ideas that offend certain newcomers to our country or the elites who fancy themselves to be our keepers. That we still have some freedom of speech is evidenced by the fact that Democrats and some Republicans can still spread their lies and distortions and answer to no one.

Furthermore, opposition to them… such as this blog is still permitted to function. For how long, we don’t know. It is to our shame that the words “permitted” or “not permitted” are allowed anywhere near the term speech. Our Declaration of Independence declared that this right, along with all the others we hold dear came from our Creator… not our government.

A recent Pennsylvania court case provides an illustration of the danger to our ability to speak our minds that we are facing. Before discussing the case, it must be emphasized that to be protected, speech does not have to be uplifting, intelligent or come from a reliable source.

Ernest Perce V, Pennsylvania State Director of American Atheists, Inc., and one of his followers took part in a Mechanicsburg, PA Halloween Parade dressed as Mohammed Zombie and Pope Zombie. Psalm 14:1 tells us, “The fool says in his heart,

‘There is no God.’” The Bible is right, yet even atheists, foolish atheists, have the right to express themselves in this country.

I’m sure many Catholics in the crowd thought the mocking of the Pope was inappropriate. I, being a non-Catholic, would have to agree. Yet, I and my Catholic friends would tend to agree that, since we don’t have a theocratic government, insulting people we respect is not a crime… unless one happens to be a Muslim.

Apparently “vengeance is mine, says the Lord” does not appear in the Koran, and a recent immigrant to our country took it upon himself to beat the tar out of the Mohammed impersonator. His homeland did not recognize the right of the individual to speak their mind, especially if that speech was critical of Mohammed. He came to our country and thought his actions would be honored here as it was in his country… where they also practice honor killings and marital rape.

When the case finally came to court, was justice done? Only if one believes that American courts should administer sharia law! Which brings up the case of the Muslim judge, who not only set the assailant free, but lectured the victim. Judge Mark Martin, not to be confused with honorable NASCAR racer, said,

Islam is not just a religion, it’s their culture, their culture. It’s their very essence, their very being. Then what you have done is you have completely trashed their essence, their being. They find it very very very offensive. I’m a Muslim, I find it offensive. But you have that right, but you’re way outside your boundaries or first amendment rights.

Because the atheists display was critical of Islam, the judge decided the speech was outside the bounds of protected speech. He had no problem with mocking the Pope… but a country in submission to Islam cannot permit this sort of disrespecting of his religion, a religion he said that was not just a theological construct, but a culture – a political system even.

In a recent Rasmussen poll, it was found that 68% of the likely American voters think people coming into the US should learn our language and adapt to our culture. Twenty percent believe it is alright to bring their culture and language into our land, and the rest, have no idea what is going on. In any case, the American people have no desire to import a repressive foreign way of life. Judge Martin feels otherwise.

Beyond the intrusion of this anti-American culture into our own land, we have no idea of how to deal with it overseas. We walk on eggs and try to apologize for every real or imagined slight to this perpetually outraged philosophy that has publicly declared a desire to rule the world. The current regime believes that we gain world peace by grovelling before people who want to conquer us… or, perhaps, is a willing accomplice to our national demise.

In the following video, we see Newt Gingrich explaining the fallacy of apologizing for the most recent assumed offense to the “religion of peace” whose adherents are destroying property and killing over the improper destruction of their holy books. These books admittedly were already desecrated by prisoners using them to pass messages from one to the other. It appears that the Obama administration is too wrapped up in its own hypocrisy to want to call others on theirs… and we the people, suffer.
