Discourse On A Higher Plain

The progressive pundits, and even some supposed conservative commentators, along with some vice presidential hopefuls are concerned about the recent turn of political discourse from the mundane world of government boondoggles and petty insider deals to the higher spiritual plain many believe does not exist. It is an area that they feel uncomfortable discussing, because they know there is a possibility that those believing in the Creator may just be right.

The formerly mainstream media and many in the Obama regime were shocked when Franklin Graham did not give a ringing endorsement to their messiah’s Christian beliefs fostered under the liberation theology preaching of Jeremiah Wright. To those who don’t know the Savior, a Christian is a Christian is a Christian – and it’s all foolishness to them. Those who have never read or tried to understand the message of God’s Word wouldn’t know how to recognize a real, imperfect, but forgiven believer, even if they ran over on in their Prius. So to them, the idea of someone having the form of Christianity, without the reality is beyond their comprehension… and is as silly to them as the squabbles between the early church and the Jewish religious establishment was to the Roman rulers of Jesus time.

To these people, hearing Franklin Graham’s comments after looking at the fruit of the Obama administration sounds just like political rhetoric dressed up in sanctified language. Graham said, “I’m a grandfather, I’ve got grandchildren, and I’m looking now at the world that they’re going to inherit, the world that they’re going to live in, and I shudder when I think about the changes that are taking place right now, and churches and pastors are not speaking out. And I just hope that pastors will speak the truth, God’s word, and how these policies that are being administered right now, how they’re undermining the churches, how they’re undermining our faith and how it’s going to undermine the United States of America.”

Pastors not speaking out – being cowed by the progressive government into keeping their teaching behind church doors and away from public policy is just the way the secular statists like it.

To the secular progressive, secular humanist or whatever they want to be called this week, and even many members of the so-called Christian left, man can identify and solve problems by his own reasoning and power. They believe that man is perfectible if only he has the proper guidance and restrictions on his baser instincts by those who know better. The ruling class believes that they are the supreme authority. To hear that there really is a power and a morality greater than their wisdom provides, makes their heads explode. Their response is to try to keep religion out of the public sphere because it leads people in a direction away from their influence and values. When the Catholic Church, many Baptists, and Graham himself determined that they would be willing to break the law to keep their religious commitments on the issue of insuring for “health” procedures they find ungodly or if they were instructed to hire someone with a different value system, it is an affront to the “benevolent state”. As the lady from California said – they believe that the rights created by a corrupt government trump ones religious convictions. She didn’t put it quite that way, but then, I’m not certain she is a lady either.

Imagine the chagrin of these would be masters when they heard Rick Santorum’s words from a speech at Ava Maria University. These people went ballistic when he said, “This is not a political war at all. This is not a cultural war. This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country – the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age. There is no one else to go after other than the United States and that has been the case now for almost two hundred years, once America’s preeminence was sown by our great Founding Fathers.”

Sen. Santorum elevated the conflict right over their heads. They became pawns in a much bigger game controlled by someone else. No one likes being called out as a servant of the evil one… particularly when they try to convince themselves that he… and the consequences of falling into his clutches… does not exist. A true Christian, when he gets it right, has an allegiance and standard that is far above the wheeling and dealing nature of our compromised political system. They try to shut down arguments such as this because it moves the discussion to a higher level than the pragmatism or idealogy they follow and wish to impose on the rest of us.

Every one believes in the virtue of their own motives. This makes it hard to accept that some things actually are evil. These are things that they believe to be right… such as those promoting the abomination of homosexuality or the murder of unborn children. This makes it difficult for them to embrace the gospel that condemns the things they call good. Wrong though they be, instead of evaluating their actions in light of the scripture, they evaluate the scripture in light of their actions. It is the road to destruction, yet it is the path they have chosen.
