Who Is The Hypocrite?
Barack Hussein Obama showed up at this year’s Congressional Prayer Breakfast, even quoted Jesus… sort of, when he said, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.” (Luke 12:48 ESV) He declared it was our Christian duty help the poor by giving more for the government to redistribute.
This is the kind of selective acceptance of scripture, we see all too often, even in some churches today. As Erick Erickson commented, “It’s a good thing President Obama did not draw from Matthew 13:12 instead…” That would have quoted “For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” (ESV)
Now, no one of good will is advocating taking from the poor. However, there is a Biblical principle from the Parable of the Talents that those who don’t work diligently will not live off the efforts of others… and they will lose whatever they already have.
It is interesting to note that while the President was pushing the Christian imperative of helping the less fortunate, he was also preparing an assault on Christian values on the fronts of abortion and homosexual marriage, to name a few. He surrounds himself with people, as II Timothy 3:5 puts it, “having a form of godliness but denying its power.” (NIV) And the verse ends, “Have nothing to do with them.”
It seems that, they are attacking religion in general and Christianity in particular, on numerous fronts, but using perversions of Christian teachings to shame us into forsaking our values and following theirs. Dennis Miller summed it up nicely when he said, “If you mention Christ, on this side of the aisle, they [liberals] will bring up Darwin. If you say, ‘Ok, I believe in Darwin’s survival of the fittest,’ they will then say they think you should be more Christ-like in your giving,” We cannot permit the progressive left to define our relationship with the Creator.
It is easy to call Barack Obama a hypocrite for his blatant use of our “sanctified” language to accomplish his goals. Yet where is our “fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice, shame on me” thinking? He has lied to us and manipulated us so many times – far surpassing seventy times seven – and many of us still get sucked in by his unbelievable rhetoric. Where is our shame?
Gullibility is not the only path to our downfall. It occurred to me this past Sunday as I was listening to the choir singing about the awesome power of our God and how we have nothing to fear because the power behind us is greater than any power on earth. Then, we have scripture telling us we can do all things through the strength of Christ.
We say we believe this, and it’s right, we should. Yet many of us don’t even know what is going on in the world around us. Others do know of the collapse of our once great country, and are doing nothing to stop it. Many know of the millions of infants whose lives end before they even begin… and do nothing about it. Many who claim the name of Christ see the destruction, suffering and pain all around them and withdraw for a variety of supposed reasons.
If we really have the power of God’s Spirit to speak words of righteousness and condemnation of evil… why are we so silent? Do we really believe the Word of God? Do we really believe Matthew 16:19 where it says, “whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Are we praying to bind the evil in our country? Or even for wisdom in the White House as we are commanded to do?
These people attacking our beliefs know they are being manipulative… and we know we are being manipulated. Who is the bigger hypocrite? Those who openly lie, cheat and steal or future freedom of our children, or those of us who say we believe in the power of God to sit back and hope the professional clergy carry the battle… and hope they do it? May we find forgiveness in the next life from those who have never had the chance to live and may our consciences be clear of those led astray by following this false messiah.
