NC Governor: Let’s Suspend Elections

Beverly PerdueElections have consequences. Sometimes the bring people to power that want to end them. Recently North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue raised the prospect of taking the power of the ballot away from the people… temporarily she alleged.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”

This is obviously the thinking of a liberal progressive who believes that government action can cure all the ills of our country… never mind that their actions created almost every problem we collectively face today. It is the supreme confidence that comes from never having to be accountable for the consequences of your actions. This is exactly the situation she talked about setting up for congress… pretty much like they have experience for years.

When she felt the firestorm of criticism from those of us afflicted with common sense and a respect for the will of the people, misdirected though it may be at times, a flunky from her office announced that she was “obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve.”

Now, this problem is only sometimes a problem. If concentrating on the next election means playing games to make the voters believe the public servants are on their side, it is a problem. If she meant it wasn’t appropriate to respond to the will of the people, many of whom are furious at the direction Ms. Perdue’s party, aided and abetted by a wimpish and ineffective opposition, is taking us – then she is dead wrong.

The thinking is a reflection of the progressive elite controlling our country. If only they didn’t have to deal with the pesky public, they could solve all our problems and get the adulation they deserve. Barack Hussein Obama isn’t so worried about elections, or congress, he’s found is unaccountability through executive orders. He may even have be thinking along the same lines as the governor of the tar heel state regarding putting his performance before the people.

It may be easier to dismiss this as the dictatorial fantasy of a lone chief executive. However, former White House Budget Director Peter Orszag, while fretting over the excessive polarization on the political scene, suggested that it would be good for democracy to give way to administrative solutions in many cases. Again, the pesky public just gets in the way of the progressive dream. It’s as if Orzag were reading Edward Mandell House’s book Philip Dru: Administrator. It looks as if the authoritarian musings of Woodrow Wilson’s closest adviser are closer are on the minds of those who move the levers of power.

What these fugitives from academia who have never functioned in the real world forget, is that the people of this country do not roll over easily and go along with destructive programs very easily. They lust after a socialist “paradise”. They forget the warning from one of the Democrats favorite presidents, John Kennedy, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”

The progressives have no respect for the American citizen. They think we are too stupid to run our lives. They think they can do a better job. They are giving hope and encouragement to the unwashed masses looking for “social justice”. One of their conspicuous voices is Dr. Cornell West, self described intellectual (see his website) who has taught at Union Theological Seminary, Harvard and Yale. Recently he was out cranking up the modern day hippies who are only too happy to be on the receiving end of redistributed wealth. They are talking up the idea of revolution on the streets of New York.

We are in for an interesting year leading up to the 2012 elections – assuming we have them. It is a time for us to consider our ways. Are we doing everything to preserve our country for ourselves and our kids? Are we doing all we can to defend our family from violence at the hands of those who believe they have nothing to loose? Are we putting in supplies preparing for disruptions in our world? Are we down on our knees looking seeking safety and wisdom? If the answer it “no”, there is still time to change and we know what we should be doing. Let’s roll!

Amen! We need to pray and we need to act. We have been nation of apathy for too long. If we contiune down this slippery slope, we will become a nation of slaves to a government in stead of servants of our King. God bless you and keep up the good work.
