Backfire: On A National / Political Scale

hamanInflammatory, political speech that is used to manipulate the masses, can often create a murderous environment that can backfire on the politicians that use it. Proverbs 18:21 tells us Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Haman had all of the Jewish people of Persia (Iran) in his “crosshairs” for extermination when he saw that Mordecai; the spiritually devoted Jew, would not bow to his image and give him the reverence that he thought he deserved (Esther 3:5).

Haman represents the archetype of true evil and anti-Semitism. His spirit may be masked in what may appear to be right or even respectable, as with Haman all the king’s servants bowed and gave him homage (Esther 3:2).

Haman’s plans backfired, and if we use Kingdom principles taken from his actual life and death we will successfully defeat his spirit today. In this current, prophetic season of “backfire” the over zealous aspirations of political opportunist that are knowingly, or unwittingly led by his spirit will also receive a stinging rebuke.

With the backfire that is coming to international political arenas, those that have a pureness of heart and a true commitment to the welfare of the people will be vindicated from the lies and deception of their enemies. They will also be elevated and promoted to greater positions.

Haman was economically empowered by the King to govern the people (Esther 3:10-11) but his agenda of “self” and Jewish hatred was far greater than his sense of national duty.

Haman was in a strategic position to affect the course of a nation. Rabbinic tradition traces his lineage all the way back to Esau (Esau was Jacob “Israel’s” twin) giving us an idea of the age old conflict between the descendants of Esau and Jacob.

Haman’s spirit is a danger to nations when:

1. The socio-political arena has created an environment of prejudice and bigotry. Judaism was the minority religion of Persia (Iran) in Haman’s day and it still is today. Most Persian Jews left Iran when the Shah was overturned in 1979.

2. When there is a time of national unrest, or the malicious intentions of those within the government that are meant to be trusted. Big’than and Te’resh, were positioned close to the king and were the same ones that sought to kill him (Esther 2:21-23).

3. When people are elected as “token” representatives to address demographic constituencies they can often backfire on their handlers.

There is a school of theological and analytical thought that sees Haman’s election as a strategic move by the king in uniting the Persian and Medianite powers of his kingdom. Haman was also believed to have no Persian blood in him but to be of Macedonian descent.

When tokens are chosen they can often come to the table of service with a hidden agenda of their own. It is the boisterous rambling of the token that can “backfire” on their handlers, when they begin to focus on their own ambitions and express thoughts that are independent of their handlers.

Haman’s spirit will always scream for innocent blood because in the reality of today’s world it will aim to replace the ballots of true democracy with dictatorial bullets.

When Haman is exposed and rebuked his plans will backfire. Intercessors, as we intercede for this spirit’s exposure we must pray for a spirit of peace to counter act the damage of Haman’s rhetoric. Brokenness and sorrow are the best opportunity for G-d to bring healing and restoration to His people (Esther 4:1-3; 2Chronicles 7:14).
