We Have Survived Worse

hippieIt’s kind of hard not to feel like the world is spinning out of control and we have absolutely no input into the major or even minor decisions of our lives. Over seven out of ten Americans supported Arizona’s attempt to put a crimp in the illegal invasion from the south, yet a Clinton appointed judge overruled their efforts. Missouri voters, in about the same proportion, just cast their votes to be exempted from the despised Obamacare. However, no one is holding their breath for the health control abomination to be stopped, just because the people don’t want it.

Now, in the most recent rejection of public sentiment a California judge set aside the results of a referendum where the good people of the state voiced their desire to retain the traditional marriage composition of one man and one woman. Following the usual progressive objection that this thinking was too restrictive and left those with other inclinations unprotected, the judge set herself above the people, where most progressives believe they belong anyway, and nixed the election results. I’m not sure what kind of protection the judge thought they needed. No one is keeping them from performing their acts of depravity… and we already have laws protecting them from having the tar beaten out of them, no matter how annoying some of them may be.

It seems like the only reason this administration cares about what the American people want is to do the opposite. These days, we hear talk of FEMA camps, secession, rebellion and civil unrest. Our country has survived a bloody civil war and, more recently, we survived the assassination of a president. A few years later our country went through the convulsions of the murders of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. Riots tore at the heart of a hundred cities and our finest young men were coming home by the hundreds, then thousands, in body bags from Vietnam. The atmosphere in the country was so poisonous that Lyndon Johnson was forced to drop out of the presidential race rather than run for a second term. Such was the work of new left as they flexed they muscles and worked to bring about a socialistic revolution.

The good news is that the election of Richard Nixon set the country on a different course and eventually the vermin crawled back under their academic rocks. Nixon’s devastating Christmas bombings brought the North Vietnamese to the bargaining table to end the war in southeast Asia were the internationalists in the State Department gave away everything our brave young men and women sacrificed so much for. This is the kind of thing you won’t see much of on the news, you almost have to one of us old guys who lived through the tumultuous era to understand it.

The bad news is that, in recent years, the vermin has crawled out from under their academic rocks where they had risen in their tenured security to the heights of ivory towers. Now they have migrated to the halls of power in our nations capitol and are in the process of implementing all the hair brained schemes that have percolated through their drug addled minds for the past forty years. Defeating them for the second time is our current challenge.

On the plus side, it has been done before and the new left is really a one trick pony. However, they are older, wiser and more entrenched. They are still on the same side of right and wrong that they were in their long hair, marijuana smoking, Pentagon bombing, hippie days.

If you believe in standing for what is right and know that we do not stand alone, then there is no choice, but to join us in the battle to save our country. We know their goals, and by reading Saul Alinsky, we know their tactics. This administration and its advisors have no respect for the American people. They believe they are so much smarter than we poor non-Ivy Leaguers who need them to lead us through our decrepit lives. What they don’t understand is that Americans have survived the Great Depression, conquered evil in World War II and put men on the moon, not because of redistributing bureaucrats but because of the drive and determination of individual Americans who believed in themselves and their country.

It is my hope that we still have those qualities… and that we have not offended our creator to the point where He is going to let us be hauled off into socialistic captivity like He did to His people several thousand years ago. So, let’s get on with the job at hand of driving this band of outlaws back under their rocks and limiting the damage they do to our great country. As we step forward, just remember that we can, like our forefathers, look to divine providence, to make our efforts successful.
