You Can’t Deny Reality
In his book, The Good Life, Chuck Colson wrote, “… any breach of integrity pits us against reality, and that’s a war no person has ever won. You can stave off reality only so long before it crushes you, which is what happened to both Nazi Germany and Communist East Germany.” He might have added names like Bernie Madoff, Dennis Kozlowski and Ken Lay. Each one lived in their own fantasy world, surrounded by enablers, hangers on and other manipulators.
Each in his own way thought the normal rules of civility, legality, economics and humanity did not apply to them. Each one, not only destroyed themselves, but they left a trail of devastation and death (some literal and some figurative). This should not be surprising that each came crashing down to earth in a tragic death spiral as Numbers 32:23 tells us “you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”
There is one more name that is on track to be added to the list and he is in the process of pulling us all under in a whirlpool debt and destruction. That name is Barack Hussein Obama. Many people believe he is unique on the scene… and in some ways, he is. On the other hand, he is just one more in a long line of charlatans whose dreams took them far beyond the realm of the possibility and propriety.
The thing about pulling us all under in a whirlpool of debt and destruction is the real issue. If he should choose to self destruct, while it would be sad to see, it would be his own business. Yet it is not just his own ruination he is careening toward, but ours, our children’s and our grandchildren’s.
We cannot let November go by without giving the this man’s supporters a thorough thrashing at the polls. But that’s not enough. We need to keep the pressure on the legislators to minimize the damage they do both before the election and during the lame duck session that follows.
Yet even that is not enough. The Keynesian economic policies of the current and previous administration have put our country on track… and the numbers confirm that we are on the path to a double dip recession. The economic policies are in line with actions taken leading up to the previous Great Depression as are the results of governmental effort. The point is that even more difficult times appear to be around the corner and we would do well to take defensive steps to protect our families.
The scope of this article does not even come close to providing financial advice. You might want to look into advice from someone like Dave Ramsey, which would include such things as reducing debt and expenses along with re-evaluating investments. Wisdom will guide you to moderate the impact of the Obama disaster.
Before you go off into a doom and gloom funk, please consider that some of the rules (not of behavior, but of economics) do not always apply to followers of Christ. Psalm 37:25 says, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” So no matter how badly the government fouls the economy, if we are faithful, we will make it through. With that confidence, we can go through life annoying secular progressives with a smile on our faces.
