Stop And Smell The Roses
This weekend I took had several political meetings scheduled where we would once again plot and scheme about ways to retrieve our freedom form the clutches of the Obama regime. However, my wife and daughter had gotten tickets to take our four year old grandson to the circus. I had a choice to make. Sure there will be other circuses, and of course, there will be other meetings. For this time I had to consider what it is we are fighting for. If we are not fighting for these little ones to have the life we had, we have missed the point the point of the entire struggle.
Had I made the other decision, I would have missed the excited anticipation and the unmitigated joy in the young boy’s face as he watched the high flying trapeze artists, the clowns and the jugglers. It would be hard to imagine the boy having a better time, and this is one that I didn’t miss.
This is not to say we should be neglecting our civic duty and our debt to those who came before us and bore the pain and suffering to give us our freedom. It is to say that we to occasionally take a break from the battle and remember what it is all about. It’s not just the superiority of our intellectual arguments that should drive us. That would make us a humorless and clueless as our progressive opponents… they just think they are right. It is about the the people who are hurt by the fallacious policies.
Our opponents are masters at putting the human spin on their plans to dominate our existence. They talk about starving children while we talk about the finer points of economic theory. Obviously we are correct, but have a difficult time tugging on the heartstrings. We tend to forget that one of the defects in our humanity is that we tend to make decisions on our emotional hearts rather than our rational brains. As one who tended to identify with Mr. Spock, this just drives me crazy… however, if we are to reach the basically good people of this country, we need to speak the language that comprehend.
We are constantly fighting the illusion that the progressivism is the home of compassion in this country. The fact is that we give many times more of our own dollars than our “benefactors” who crow loudly about how they are helping us with our own money… but only after taking out their cut. We just need to get through to the average voter with the benefits of our philosophy, not just the righteousness of it.
However, getting back to the circus, I am reminded of the old Mac Davis song that tells us to Stop and Smell the Roses. It helps you keep your perspective and when you come back, you have a fresher view of the problems and understanding of the solutions. With summer on the way, take some time get away… go to the mountains or the beach… or take a kid to the circus. You can take off any day you want… just don’t take off every day, we need all the help we can get! You’ll come back sharper and closer to victory.
