Jeremiah Still Speaks

jeremiahSome people wonder about the value of the Old Testament… whether it still applies to our time and political situation. By looking at what happened to Israel when they rejected the Word of the Lord to follow their own ways… and this was God’s chosen people… we get the idea that we do the same at our own peril. Let’s look at what the prophet Jeremiah had to say to those who chose their own way.

6 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Cut down the trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression.

7 As a well pours out its water, so she pours out her wickedness. Violence and destruction resound in her; her sickness and wounds are ever before me.

8 Take warning, O Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you and make your land desolate so no one can live in it.”

9 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Let them glean the remnant of Israel as thoroughly as a vine; pass your hand over the branches again, like one gathering grapes.”

10 To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the LORD is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.

11 But I am full of the wrath of the LORD, and I cannot hold it in. “Pour it out on the children in the street and on the young men gathered together; both husband and wife will be caught in it, and the old, those weighed down with years.” (NIV)

This was Jerusalem, site of God’s temple and He turned His back on the people because they called evil, good and good, they called evil. Many of us believe the United States of America has a special place in history because of various instances of divine intervention during our quest for independence… and we became the shining city on a hill.

However, Jerusalem did not last forever because the people neglected to do what was right and just. Are we on the downside of the USA? Some would think so… some would even celebrate this. Some are even doing their best to bring this about.

What is our role? I would submit for your consideration that it does not matter what happens in congress or the White House. As with many of our adversities, they come, and are a fact of life. What matters is our response.

Our choices are to wring our hands and talk of the glory days of the old USA or we can respond by taking back our land. To do this, we need to keep in mind Peter’s response to the Sanhedrin when he asked if it was better to follow God or the rules of men. Those in power are manipulating the rules of our society to shut us out of the discussion… beginning with political corrupt speech and carrying through to hate crime laws and the like. We need to decide if we will abide by the rules of men or stand firm to establish what is right, as our founding fathers did in the face of the most powerful military force in the world at the time.

Instead of believing that God is on our side, we had jolly well better make sure we are on His side.

I pointed out same thing in a blog earlier. Well that American Christians are responsible for where we are today in our country because we have allowed ourselves to be too tolerant & accepting. Yes God is love, kind & wonderful but He is also jealous, demanding & wrathful-with little tolerance for people who actively choose to ignore His will. No where in Bible does it say Put no other God before me but Allah or the government.
