Is America Becoming A Police State?

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on February 28, 2010 under Why | Be the First to Comment

police_state.trooperThere is a classic story about how no one had been able to capture a herd of wild hogs that was rooting up crops from numerous farms. It got so bad that rewards had been posted for anyone clever enough to corral the critters. But even this resulted in only limited success.

One day a stranger (who was a wily old trapper) came into town and—entering the general store–ordered a truckload of fence posts and fencing, along with some feed. When asked what he was going to use it for, he said, “I’m going to get those wild hogs y’all are having trouble with.” Of course, everyone in the store laughed at the overconfident stranger. A few weeks later, however, the stranger rode into town with the back of his truck tightly packed with the smelly swine.

When asked how he was able to accomplish what no one else had been able to do, the old trapper replied, “Simple. I started putting the feed out in a small clearing and the hogs began freely eating the feed. It didn’t take long and they were there every day. Then I put up the fence posts, but with no fencing. At first the hogs were a little skittish, but it wasn’t long and they ignored the posts. Then I began putting the fence up, but I left the gate off. Again, the hogs were skittish at first, but soon realized they could come and go freely, and before long, they were devouring the free food with a vengeance. Then, one day when the hogs were aggressively consuming the vittles, I slammed the gate closed.” Read more of this article »

Censorship – A Disservice To Our Service Men and Our Country

frcTony Perkins of the Family Research Council exercised his and his organizations First Amendment right when he spoke out about the replacement of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” military policy with a positive acceptance of openly homosexual members. He wrote about the long documented problems this type of policy caused in the past and will cause in the future. Mr. Perkins understands that soldiers don’t like taking showers with guys that like taking showers with soldiers.

Sometime back, he was invited to give a devotional at a National Prayer Luncheon held at Andrews Air Force Base, just outside the liberal bastion of beltway thinking. However, somewhere along the line, commanders, ever mindful of their promotional opportunities and their relationship to their civilian leaders, decided that it would be best if Tony Perkins not spread his common sense ideas among the men in their charge.

Perkins was told that he and his group were “incompatible in our role as military members who serve our elected officials and our commander in chief.” Some would call it censorship if messengers are denied access based on their message. It is clear that only one message on this topic is permitted in the military and and our government in general. Read more of this article »

The Mount Vernon Statement

Posted by Larry Miller on February 24, 2010 under How | Read the First Comment

washrevolutionA few days ago, well known conservatives from around the country gathered to sign a broad agreement on a number of principles that are designed to bring us back to the constitutional republic we once were. As with any group this large, there will be some differences. In our opposition to the dangerous foolishness in the White House we see our numbers sometimes fragmented iby demanding 100% agreement before accepting fellow freedom fighters into the fold.

It would be good to read the statement for yourself. You may even find a point or two that you are unsure of… but if you are generally in agreement, you are a welcome and valuable part of the team. As you read through the list of initial signers at the bottom, you may find one or two or three that you are not a fan of. That’s OK… the job is big enough that we need all the help we can get.

This does not mean that we blindly accept everything thrown at us. For instance many or our number thought Scott Brown was the next coming conservative personality… presidential material even. This week showed them wrong. He was simply the best we could expect from Massachusetts. He, like Lindsey Graham would be totally unacceptable in the Carolinas. Read more of this article »

State Nullification

Posted by John Manuola on February 23, 2010 under How, Why | Be the First to Comment

nullify-fedAs many as thirty-six states, in response to the prospects of a federally mandated universal health care system, have begun the process of exercising their constitutional right to nullification.

Unless you are one of those few Americans who have studied the Constitution and its history, nullification is, perhaps, not one of those concepts upon which you would have a firm grasp. However, nullification is, perhaps, the single most important concept in saving our freedoms from a federal government run amok with its own sense of self empowerment.

First, in order to understand state nullification, we need to review the basic elements surrounding the establishment OF the Constitution. This is a simple review, but we all know the original thirteen states came together to draft a new constitution upon which to establish a more coherent and empowered confederation of states and to develop of useful, yet restricted, federal (NOT NATIONAL) government. I Wish Joe Stack Had Not Killed Himself!

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on under Why | Be the First to Comment

stack2[Editors note: while we ran a story on this yesterday, this is an American tragedy that we should not simply set aside as one more guy gone off the deep end.  We need to remember Joe Stack and learn from him.]

All of us are now aware of the Texas man who yesterday flew his private plane into a 7-story Austin office building. Apparently, he intentionally crashed his plane into the building to target the IRS offices that were housed inside the facility.

As I am writing this column just hours after the event took place, there has not yet been a lot of time for the major news media talking heads to spin the story. By the time this column is released on Friday, however, I’m sure we will all have been inundated with copious references to this man, Joe Stack, as being “off his rocker,” or similar assertions. Perhaps our friends at DHS will label Stack a “right-wing domestic terrorist.” However, Mr. Stack apparently left behind a “suicide manifesto” explaining his actions. After carefully reading Stack’s manifesto, I am quite convinced that he was not crazy, and he was not a “terrorist.” However, he was angry.

A lot of us are angry–and for many of the same reasons that Mr. Stack was angry! While I would certainly take exception to some of the things Stack says in his manifesto, he said things that many of us are feeling. Read more of this article »

The Tragedy of Joe Stack (1956-2010)

Posted by Larry Miller on February 21, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

austinirsWhen Joe Stack piloted his small, single engine plane into the Austin, Texas IRS building, it was the culmination of half a lifetime of fighting the organization and the government that controls it. Mr. Stack was not the only one to work at building something for himself and his family, then have it snatched away through ill-conceived government actions and policies. Yet he is the only one who acted on the impulses many have when dealing with an isolated, uncaring bureaucracy.

Reading his final thoughts, (available at http://www.politicalchristian.org/docs/joestack.pdf), one can’t help but feel the anger and frustration of a man who feels his life has been wasted and his dreams thwarted by a system designed and run by the powerful and self-indulgent. Some of his thoughts are beyond comprehension, but for the most part, one can sympathize with this man, while not agreeing with his solution. I, too, was hurt by Section 530 of the Revenue Act of 1978 that singled out computer programmers and engineers to not receive the same favorable tax treatment given to other professionals.

Regarding his treatment by the Internal Revenue Service, one can only look at the philosophy behind their charter. They, and their congressional masters, believe that the taxpayers money is their money and it is by their good will, that the taxpayer can keep any at all for themselves. Men of good will could argue that because of their possessive attitude and hostile treatment of the taxpayers, that there is not a single IRS office around the country that is undeserving of such an attack. Yet, we need to look at what was accomplished. Read more of this article »

Spiritual Wickedness In High Places

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on February 17, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

babelAlmost immediately after Adam’s fall, Lucifer and his minions collaborated with evil men to usurp God’s authority and sovereignty. And nowhere is God more sovereign than in the heart and conscience of man. In the spirit world, the First Commandment (”Thou shalt have no other gods before me”) is the battleground that is most fought over. The war for man’s heart and soul is never-ending.

Nimrod was the first would-be tyrant to try and bring the world into a global “New World Order.” His handiwork produced the Tower of Babel, which brought about a cataclysmic judgment from Jehovah. However, while Nimrod was the first globalist to try and unify the nations against God, he was certainly not the last. The Pharaohs, Darius, Artaxerxes, Cyrus, Alexander, Nebuchadnezzar, the Caesars, and hundreds like them have all brought their tyrannical rule over the hearts of men. And their ideas and passions are as alive and active in the world today as ever.

With every would-be world tyrant, there is one constant: the unholy marriage between a supranational government and Big Religion. If Jehovah God made anything clear in the Mosaic model of government, it was the fact that–until Christ Himself comes to occupy both offices–the offices of Priest and King were to be eternally separate. At least one Old Testament Jewish king learned that lesson the hard way. Read more of this article »

Who’s Playing What?

Posted by Larry Miller on February 16, 2010 under Why | Be the First to Comment

womenhockeyAs I came out of my office this afternoon, my four year old grandson was fascinated by an Olympic hockey game. He likes guy shows like Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters and Swamp Loggers. So hockey is a guys game… this is good for him… almost as good as NASCAR. I saw it was the Team USA playing the Russians. Images of the old rivalries during the cold war era came to mind. But soon I realized the players were girls – and they were really good. Not being a serious hockey fan since the days of the Broad Street Bullies down at the Spectrum in Philly, I was not aware of the level of play in women’s hockey. I was impressed!

Another departure from the days of Bernie Parent, Bobby Clarke and Fred Shero was that the Americans were kicking the Russian team up one side of the rink and down the other to the tune of a 13-0 score. The USA jersey wearing crowd was hooting, hollaring and chanting. The were waving American flags. They were proud of their country and proud of the kids wearing their nations colors. Yes, kids… when you get to be my age, most anyone competing in the Olympics is a kid.

I noticed all the Russian players had Russian names. But then, the American players had American names. Sure, some sounded German, some sounded Russian, even French or English and whatever else the glorious mix our country has attracted. But no matter what the sound, they were American names belonging to unhyphenated American players whose ancestry was scattered around the globe, but coming together, they made a mighty team.. Twelve Who Changed The World

Posted by Larry Miller on February 15, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

apostle_peterThis weekend I had the opportunity attend a conference featuring some of the more powerful speakers who left no doubt that our country was founded by strong Christian men on a foundation of Biblical principles. The crowd bought their books and were motivated to go out and change the world… or at least their corner of it. The question that kept running through my mind was, does that motivation carry over into the next work week… or month?

It’s easy to get psyched up when we are with hundreds of people with the same values. It can be at a conference or a tea party… or even chatting with friends over a cup of coffee. We can pound our chests and declare our victory. But so often, our enthusiasm evaporates like the morning mist when we leave the protective confines of philosophical peers. It’s human nature.

We want to be liked. We don’t want to be the odd ball. We don’t want others to think us foolish or stupid. This is why, rather than facing her squarely on issues, the formerly mainstream media can only paint Sarah Palin as a dullard and her fans even more dimwitted. It’s the ridicule Saul Alinsky advised his followers to use when they were intellectually outclassed. Read more of this article »

Media Bias

Posted by Jim Mullen on under How | Be the First to Comment

olbermanIt is in the best interest of tyrannical government to have a disreputable news media. The mainstream news media have become more scandalous and less believable than government.

Beginning with an agenda – usually far-left – they filter, formulate and frame world events to promote their agendas. Learning well from Hollywood, these purveyors of persuasion use the camera lens and mighty pen to create illusions designed to indoctrinate and ignite passions.

Add in a barrage of brilliant marketing techniques that would make Madison Avenue ad men envious and what we have is mainstream media news.

Rather than shining a light into the dark corners of government, they prefer to direct the spotlight on themselves or their cause. Journalists from main-stream news networks and newspapers – many suffering from “power envy” – use rumors, innuendos, opinions and the infamous “anonymous sources” to present their distorted version of the truth. Who’s In Charge Here?

Posted by Larry Miller on February 11, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

Holiday StormTo listen to the anointed Barack Hussein Obama and his excessive use of references to “I” and “me” along with his efforts to “radically transform” the country most of us love, you would think that someone died and left him as boss. He and his cohorts have already begun dismantling the protections we thought our constitution had given us. He believes he is justified as his thoughts must be reflecting the will of the people. The people, as in “We the people”, are telling him his actions and schemes don’t reflect their version of the “public will”. Someone is wrong! Who is really in charge here?

Well, the people are closer to being on target as our founding fathers noted we have been endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights. These rights are not generated by the people any more than they are generated by our government, as Chuck Schumer would have us believe. They have been given to the people by their creator. In some ways the people have been given the right to rule their land in much the same way European monarchs believed they had been given the “divine right of kings”. Only in this case there is truth to the claim.

Over the years, the people have been foolish and given up the control that was rightfully theirs, much like Esau gave up his inheritance to Jacob. Yet the concept that individual liberty is a gift from our creator has not been lost. The secular statists believe otherwise. They are convinced that the Judeo-Christian values that were the foundation of our country have outlived their usefulness and the people now need the firm hand of a strong centralized government to guide them through one crisis after another generated crisis. Well, Obama’s CG is quickly beginning to take shape. According to the Associated Press (AP), “President Barack Obama has selected Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to serve on an advisory council for defense and national security issues.

“Nixon was one of 10 governors named Thursday [February 4, 2009] by Obama to the newly created Council of Governors.”

The 10 governors (and one of them is not even a State governor) selected by Obama are: Read more of this article »

Where Is Our Patrick Henry?

Posted by Larry Miller on February 9, 2010 under How, Why | Read the First Comment

henryThere has been copious speculation about who will arise to oppose Barack Hussein Obama at the end of his first and only term in office. There are almost as many ideas as there are people disgusted with the path of our country. I am looking for something more than an ideal candidate that can win an election. Instead of a politician running for an office, I would suggest we should be looking for a statesman… a leader with a vision and passion.

We often think of men like Washington, Jefferson, Adams… presidents all, but they were not alone in building the fledgling nation. There were others who drove the cause of freedom, helping pave the way to our independence. Patrick Henry was one of these who guided the our country into the light of independence. This future governor of Virginia is credited with helping his contemporaries see the need for independence and helping them to commit to fighting for it.

Through the years, his words have inspired many to a greater belief in both liberty and themselves. He demonstrated a single minded dedication to his country and its people. In view of the hazardous days ahead for our nation, it would be well to study these ideas coming from this man who loved his land and loved liberty. Read more of this article »

Not Your Father’s Army

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on February 8, 2010 under Why | Read the First Comment

un_blue_helmetsMost of us Americans have a deep and abiding respect and admiration for our country’s fighting men who have served–and are serving–within the US Armed Forces. We appreciate their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way for the preservation of our nation’s liberty and independence. We honor their sacrifice. Indeed, many of us share that sacrifice with the deaths, dismemberments, and paralysis of our most cherished loved ones who were killed or injured in the line of duty.

It is time, however, that we awaken to the reality of what our military is becoming and where it is heading. Suffice it to say, this is not your father’s army.

On December 8, 1941, my father, Ed Baldwin–along with his two brothers, Bud and Gene–marched down to a recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas, to enlist. The Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor the day before, and no branch of service had to beg people to enlist that day. Bud joined the Navy. Gene joined the Marines. When government officials saw Dad’s resumé, they selected him to help construct the atomic bomb. All three brothers served their country with distinction throughout the war. How Super Was Super Sunday?

Posted by Larry Miller on under How | Be the First to Comment

I just watched a two and a half million dollar frittering away of taxpayer dollars in the form of a Super Bowl commercial. The idea was to encourage people fill out their census forms so Big Brother would know that much more about us… and something the law requires. The commercial was populated by sort-of celebrities whose faces you may recognize, but whose names you may not know.

While the price tag is chump change compared to the other waste of our dollars, the Chinese dollars, our children’s dollars and our grandchildren’s dollars. I somehow was not feeling like we were getting our money’s worth. Yet with all the nonsense coming from inside the beltway, it’s not just the money, but the lack of respect, it’s as if our government is rubbing their ability to waste our resources in our face.

Later, Audi, drinking the green kool aid, ran a spot about “green police” arresting people for getting plastic bags at the supermarket and installing incandescent bulbs. Some thought they were mocking the green movement until it turned out they were promoting a “green” car. I tended to find little humor in acting out what some of the ecowhackos would really like to do. It may be that those who may buy their vehicles are definitely of a different demographic than myself. They may not have heard about the crumbling of the global warming mythology. Read more of this article »

Thankfully Remembering The Gipper!

On this 99th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth, little can be said that would improve on the words of the man himself.  In listening to his First Inaugural Address, one can only marvel at how far we have fallen.  We can only be inspired and increase our determination that the damage to our country will not be permitted to stand and that we will, once again, be worthy of what America once was.  We have benefited so greatly from living in this wonderful country.  We can do no less than to pass the shining city on a hill to our children and grandchildren.

A Rudderless Ship Of State

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on February 5, 2010 under Why | Be the First to Comment

henryIn Patrick Henry’s immortal “Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death” speech, he said, “[I]t is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth.” Never have Henry’s words been truer than they are today. For too long, good men have turned a blind eye to the obvious reality that America’s Ship of State has swerved significantly off course. In fact, it is no hyperbole to say that America’s Ship of State is completely rudderless and, absent a speedy course correction, seems destined to crash against the rocks of oppression and economic ruin in the very near future. For anyone willing to open their eyes, the manifestations of America’s almost-certain collision with history are everywhere.

America’s Liberty Ship is dependent upon the twin mainsails of Morality and Constitutional Government to stay on course. It is an irrefutable and irreversible law that these twin sails are indissolubly linked. We cannot have one without the other. America’s founders clearly understood this.

For example, our second President, John Adams, said, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Read more of this article »

Save Your Bucks

Posted by Larry Miller on February 4, 2010 under How | Be the First to Comment

vegas“You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.” So goes the wisdom of Barack Hussein Obama as he speaks of frugality in the face of financial distress. This message doesn’t quite ring true as it falls from the lips of one whose only known solution to problems is to spend and spend some more of the taxpayers money in a vain attempt to raise a sinking economy.

On one hand, this utterance of truth is good advice. On the other hand, it reveals a pathology that should give us all pause. Yet, the advice makes sense and we all would do well give it serious consideration. With all the uncertainty, it would seem a smart strategy to not spend money we don’t have on things we really don’t need.

Good financial advisors are counseling people to get out of debt and save their money. Unfortunately, this type of behavior is not the kind of thing that will rejuvenate our troubled financial world. Businesses need customers, people need to spend less money. This is an awkward situation… one that might be remedied if the good citizens felt more confident in their futures and our government were not quite so intent on snagging so much money form their pockets. The Progressives Bump Into Science Again

Posted by Larry Miller on February 2, 2010 under Why | Be the First to Comment

teenpregnancyNot long after we saw the downfall of the pseudoscience of global warming, we are beginning to see cracks in the battle against abstinence only education. The Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine recently published a detailed study showing that the methodology so despised by the the progressive elites and academic aristocracy to actually have the effectiveness they long denied. There is no joy in Mudville… or at UC Berkley.

The specifics of the study are not as important as the fact that academic rejection of the results was as predictable as Barack Hussein Obama’s use of duel teleprompters. Instead of hailing the study as something promising in the battle against teen pregnancy and STDs, the reaction showed the kneejerk reaction of the entrenched secularists as they sought to discredit both the study and its conclusions. We have seen this behavior before… many times.

Instead of using science as the path the truth, it is being used like a drunk clinging to a lamp post… more for support than illumination. This is the very same intellectual dishonesty they continually accuse those who are foolish enough to actually believe the principles of the Bible. We should be used to this by now… science eventually confirming the words of the same creator that endowed us with unalienable rights. Read more of this article »

Thrashing About on the Left

Not a red fox or a Megan Fox or a Redd Fox but that most vicious of all foxes, the Fox News Channel.

Now, Mr. Reich is a brilliant man, or so we’re told. We’re also told Paul Krugman is a brilliant man, Barack Obama is a brilliant man, and Bill Clinton is a brilliant man. In fact, just about all liberals are brilliant men, even VP Joe Biden who manages to conceal his remarkable brilliance better than most.

Mr. Reich, writer, politician, academic, political commentator, and multi-degreed professor currently serving in the belly of the beast, UC Berkeley, suffers from the tunnel vision that afflicts most lefties, the tunnel vision that sees only the skewed liberal perspective, a redundancy.
