Democrats, desperate for votes, have taken to promoting the idea of legitimizing illegal immigrants under the guise of adding them to the rolls of taxpayers and getting them to pay their share. This idea appeals to the many hard working Americans who do their jobs and pay their taxes… just happy to get some kind of a refund rather than having to dig deeper into their already depleted pockets to give our “betters” in Washington more money to waste.
While the tax code is somewhat public knowledge – as much as any set of rules that massive can be, most of middle America is blissfully unaware that not only do the bottom 50% pay no income tax, many actually receive appreciably more than they pay into the system. Through the magic of what the IRS calls refundable credits, such as earned income, child and child care credit, it is not unusual for someone in these tax brackets to receive a refund two to three times the amount that was withheld for taxes.
This may seem incredible to the average taxpayer, but it is a truth we are living with and paying for. Some will say we should not begrudge these people the extra cash in their pockets as they don’t have too much. There is an element of truth for those of us who care about those around us and individually we should do all we can for them. However, when done as a matter of national policy, what it amounts to is something near and dear to the hearts of progressives through out the land… and that is the transfer of wealth from those evil folks who earn their pay and have the audacity to want to keep it. This wealth transfer is their time honored technique for using taxpayer money to buy the votes that keep themselves in office. Read more of this article »
I was led to Christ at the tender age of 5 while sitting on my mother’s lap. I was raised in a devout, churchgoing Christian home. I have been in Gospel ministry all of my adult life (I am 57 years old). I have attended or have degrees and/or diplomas from 4 fundamentalist/evangelical colleges or Bible schools. I have been the Senior Pastor of a local Independent Baptist congregation for 34 years and counting. I have spoken in churches and Christian gatherings all over the country. I say all of that simply to provide my Christian credentials (in much the same way that the Apostle Paul provided his Jewish credentials in Philippians 3:5,6). As such, I believe I know something about the attitudes, conduct, philosophy, mindset, etc., of America’s Christians. I am not an outsider; I speak as one within the conservative/fundamentalist Christian camp.
As it relates to the rightful understanding of following Christ’s instruction that we are to be “salt” and “light” (and what that means for us Americans), and properly rendering to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s (and knowing the difference), there are basically 2 groups: those who sincerely want to help America maintain its foundational principles and those who, frankly, are too preoccupied (or cowardly) to give much thought to it one way or another. I would say that the first group is slightly larger than the second group. The problem is, among the first group, there is a vast void of understanding regarding exactly how we are to implement and carry forth the principles of Christian liberty–which are the principles upon which America was built, of course.
As I see it, there are two glaring obstacles that keep today’s Christians from being truly effectual and influential in helping to restore America’s freedoms and founding principles. And let’s be honest enough to admit that, for the most part, today’s Christians (including our pastors) are ineffective and irrelevant in providing any meaningful solutions to America’s many problems. Sadly, more often than not, we are little more than gullible pawns, which wily and wicked politicians use to advance their own nefarious agendas. Read more of this article »
A lot has already been written about President Obama’s State of the Union message. With all due respect to pundits like Chris Matthews who “forgot he was black for an hour”, how can so much be written and discussed about so little? To be sure, high sounding words poured forth from the ever present teleprompters. Unfortunately, these words failed to combine themselves into coherent sentences that would work for the benefit and safety of the American people.
People are seeing problems like a crumbling economy and near misses in terrorist attacks. They are looking for answers from their leaders, but as Congressman Randy Forbes (VA-4) noted, “The President had a great opportunity to answer the call. He just missed it.”
Yet even if he said the right words… told us the right things… to many of us it would not have mattered. It would be even harder for him than Arthur Fonzarelli, to say he was wrong. So can we really believe the man? In the past, Joe Wilson was roundly criticized by both parties and the press for stating the obvious. Later is words were vindicated by the President’s own actions. This time around Supreme Court Justice Joseph Alito let the world know, in less audible tones, that the teleprompters words were false. Read more of this article »
This video, while done in fun, illustrates the two primary competing economic theories in the world today. John Maynard Keynes is revered by the progressives as they both teach that government intervention will solve all our economic woes. If problems aren’t solved, it just means that they have not manipulated the system enough. Spend and put money in the hands of the little people. Encourage them to spend… not save! We are told by this administration that despite the fact that this spending is digging us a financial hole that we may never climb out of, everything thing will be fine. The question is… fine for whom? We the people or them, the controllers?
The thinking of F.A. Hayek and others in the Austrian school are not quite as well known and followed. The Austrian philosophy explains that the boom and bust economic cycles occur precisely as a result of the economic intervention of governments throwing money into the economy in an effort to pump it up in a effort to force perpetual expansion. The problem is that sooner or later the economic activity runs out of steam and the inflated economy comes crashing down further because of it was lifted up higher. Read more of this article »
On the heals of the tragic Haitian earthquake the world was shocked at the scope of the human suffering on the western end of that small island. Talking heads moaned and groaned about the misery… reporting, telling stories, but doing little to make the situation better. More recently, Sean Penn joined the chorus telling us about things we already knew from the evening news. No one had any idea of why such misfortune should fall upon such an already impoverished country.
One exception was Pat Robertson, a meticulous student of, not only the Bible, but of history as well. He knows that to comprehend the present, we must understand the past. Part of the history of this island is a revolt of the slaves that overthrew their French masters in 1791. The story of the rebellion revolves around a pact reportedly made with the devil that empowered the slaves in their victorious struggle. Those rejecting this story and the subsequent poverty afflicting the country have no competing explanation of the great disparity between Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic. Perhaps they will assign it to corrupt governments and uneducated citizens… certain two common forces hindering prosperity, but not unique to the region.
Actor Danny Glover offered the wisdom gained by years of receiving excessive compensation for pretending to be someone he isn’t. He said the earthquake was the result of the earth’s anger at the failure of the Copenhagen climate change summit. He apparently accepts some sort of mystical connection between the actions of man and the physical earth. One has to wonder why an angry Mother Earth would focus her wrath on the poor Haitians who had nothing to do with the failure of the worlds scheme to get its hands on the wealth of the US. Today marks the 37th anniversary of the infamous US Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision, which, in effect, legalized abortion-on-demand nationwide. The aftermath of this tragic ruling is the deaths of over 40 million (a very conservative number) innocent unborn babies. It is no hyperbole to say abortion is America’s holocaust. Think of it, every American citizen today, 37 years old or younger, has never known a country that respected and protected innocent human life in the womb. Put it another way: when Hitler’s Third Reich was at its zenith, the abortion rate was 40%. In 2003 (the last year that I checked), the abortion rate of the county in which I live was 39%. And I live in the heart of the so-called “Bible Belt.” In fact, statistically speaking, the most dangerous place to be in America is not in an automobile without wearing a seat belt, or in a commercial airliner with a potential terrorist on board. Statistically speaking, the most dangerous place to be is in the womb of one’s mother.
Dr. Bernard Nathanson once headed America’s largest abortion clinic in New York City. He admitted superintending over the killing of 75,000 unborn babies. He later recanted his pro-abortion activity and wrote what may be the quintessential book defending an unborn child’s right to life, “Aborting America.” Dr. Nathanson said, “There is no longer serious doubt in my mind that human life exists within the womb from the very onset of pregnancy.”
Dr. Mildred Jefferson was a surgeon at Boston University Medical Center, a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery with many honors and awards. She said, “Many people try to hide behind the confusion of not knowing what happens before a baby is born. But we do not have to be confused. We in medicine and science have a different name for every stage of the development of the baby, but it does not matter at all whether you know those names or not. When a young woman has not had much opportunity to go to school and she becomes pregnant, no one has to tell her that she is going to have a baby. Read more of this article »
I, like most of you, would rather be going along with life as usual, but have found that to be extremely difficult for the last twelve months. I have had to make a commitment, to either fight for our freedom, or keep going and ignore the truth about what is happening in our country today, wondering can I make a difference.
January, one year ago I did decide to commit to step up, and dedicate my free time to make a difference. Well, as it has turned out, it has taken way more than my free time. I will also say, I would have it no other way.
My journey began, trying to get educated on the task that would lie ahead. As someone, who really did not desire to read a lot, I found myself reading a lot. My first commitment to join others with a like minded spirit, that I felt I would fall in line with, were the patriots I met at the first 9.12 We Surround Them event at the Village Grill in Chester, VA. This is where I first met men like Ralph Carter, and his wife, Millette, and family. They have been an inspiration to us all. I also met Mike, Freddie, Marion, and Celeste, all of whom now are a huge part of the Chester Patriots, organized by Ralph. Carter. I began to immediately become involved in planning and activities this group had to offer. I was beginning to feel like I had made the right choice to “stand up for Freedom.” Read more of this article »
The White House Office of the Press Secretary released a report on the White House web site titled “President Obama Signs Executive Order Establishing Council of Governors.” According to the press release, “The President today [January 11, 2009] signed an Executive Order establishing a Council of Governors to strengthen further the partnership between the Federal Government and State Governments to protect our Nation against all types of hazards. The Secretary of Defense will designate an Executive Director for the Council.” Read more of this article »
The people of Massachusetts have again fired a shot that will echo around the world. As with his intercession in Virginia, New Jersey and Copenhagen, Barack Hussein Obama came to town intending for his rhetorical skills and magnetic personality to sway the little people and make them bend to his will. As with his previous ventures, the persuasive verbiage scrolling through the teleprompter fell on deaf ears and he returned to the public housing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue empty handed.
When Senator Kennedy assumed room temperature, it was just assumed by the news media that another Democrat would be sitting in his (make that the people’s) seat. It was assumed by the Resident that he would continue to have two Democrat senators from the Bay State. Even Republicans assumed they were going nowhere in this special election. THEY WERE WRONG!
Before Republicans begin crowing about a tremendous victory for their party, they need to acknowledge that it was really a victory for the people who are outraged by the shenanigans inside the beltway and fearful for the future of their country. So many of the people that are mocked as tea baggers by the side that actually caters to such types, helped secure this victory by making phone calls through an incredible online system and by traveling to the inhospitable winter climate in the northeast. It’s been interesting observing the Massachusetts Senate race these past several days. Out of nowhere, Scott Brown has become not just a challenge to Martha Coakley but could actually win this race. Big shots from both parties have jumped into the fray. Even Obama was in Massachusetts today stumping for Coakley and Foxnews says that he has become the “point man” for her.
Dems have begun circling the wagons to protect the president against the embarrassment of Coakley losing and are making arrangements to bypass the reconciliation process by sending the Senate health care bill directly to the House for them to vote on. This would sidestep the need for returning the reconciled bill to the Senate for further debate where a newly-elected Brown would be the deciding factor in a filibuster against the bill.
That all being said, something was blatantly familiar about how the Dems have been conducting their campaign against Brown. They have spent the majority of their time assuming that the people of Massachusetts WANT what they want and need to simply trust Obama and the Dems to do what’s right. They attack Brown with innuendos and name-calling and villainous connections to far right wing groups in an attempt to stir the emotions of the voters against this man. Read more of this article »
As I was growing up, hearing about the speeches and marches of Martin Luther King, much of what I heard was that he was stirring up trouble where he had no business. In the rural northeast there was little knowledge or understanding of the situations he was fighting against. There was only one black student in my high school graduating class and she was kind of cute and fit in with everyone, so I could not comprehend what the fuss was all about.
It was only later, after Dr. King was gone, and I saw grown men with dark skin addressed as “Boy” and saw pictures of segregated facilities that I began to grasp the struggles of freedom fighters like Martin Luther King Jr and others like Medgar Evers.
Our Declaration of Independence enshrined the words “all men are created equal”. Correctly it does not specify all men of a certain color, a particular economic class or those connected to the “ruling class”. It says all men are created equal. It does not say that some are only three fifths equal as some in congress specified so as to obtain congressional representation, yet not recognize the humanity of some citizens. Editors Note: Those not privileged to live in the Commonwealth of Virginia may not be familiar with Lee-Jackson Day, the holiday that remembers two southern gentlemen in the truest sense of the words.
January is often referred to as “Generals Month” since no less than four famous Confederate Generals claimed January as their birth month: James Longstreet (Jan. 8, 1821), Robert E. Lee (Jan. 19, 1807), Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson (Jan. 21, 1824), and George Pickett (Jan. 28, 1825). Two of these men, Lee and Jackson, are particularly noteworthy.
Without question, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were two of the greatest military leaders of all time. Even more, many military historians regard the Lee and Jackson tandem as perhaps the greatest battlefield duo in the history of warfare. If Jackson had survived the battle of Chancellorsville, it is very possible that the South would have prevailed at Gettysburg and perhaps would even have won the War Between the States. Editors Note: This message came to us from the Scott Brown campaign as he is attempting to win the seat occupied by the late Ted Kennedy. According to our sources, Brown if elected can be the one key to stopping Obamacare…the Senate would no longer have its 60 votes.
On January 19th, a special election will be held in Massachusetts to fill the vacated seat of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. As most of us realize, it can have a profound impact on the nation, as well as Massachusetts.
Until a few weeks ago, it appeared that Martha Coakley would easily win Kennedy’s seat and extend the Democratic stranglehold.
However, in the ensuing weeks, Republican Scott Brown has closed the gap so dramatically that, according to several polls, he is now in a DEAD HEAT. A key reason for Brown’s success is the intensive use of “phone banks”, whereby activist supporters have been calling and encouraging swing voters to vote for Brown. Read more of this article »
I think we need to face it: 2010 is more than a new year; it is also part of a new era in which all vestiges of normalcy and common sense have been left behind. In other words, it is a madhouse out there. Let me give you some examples of what I’m talking about.
Example Number One: In the world of anti-gun elitists, only common people are not allowed to defend themselves.
According to the Richmond (North Carolina) Times-Dispatch, “A sheriff says a North Carolina state senator shot one of two intruders at his home and hospital officials say the man is in fair condition.
“Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon.”
According to the report, “Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed.” Read more of this article »
When the American people chose the candidate who promised to fundamentally change our country in November of 2009, many did not really understand what they were signing up for. We have seen during this intervening year since his inauguration, unprecedented (to use an Obamaism) attacks on individual freedom and our economic well being. One has to consider why this tragedy has come upon us.
In the days of ancient Israel, there were times when the people were ruled by good kings and times when they were ruled by bad kings. Often the kings reflected the spiritual condition of the people. Things got so bad by 586 BC that the people of Judah were conquered and carried off to King Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon. This was nothing new as the people, since long before the kings, had up and down spiritual relationships… noted as far back as the book of Judges where, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in their own eyes.” (21:25 KJV)
To those paying attention, that verse could pretty well describe our own situation… except now we have one who would be king. In Nubuchadnezzar’s time, it was common practice to carry off the population of a defeated land to be resettled for the benefit of the king. In our time, this is not usually the case, but there are still plenty of negative consequences to ungodly rule, both individually and corporately, for going our own way. In both cases, however, when God’s people lose their way, they also lose their freedom. Read more of this article »
We, as a society, have no financial problems. Problems are things that come upon us that we have no control over. But when we create situations that are not good, we really can’t call them problems… they are more like natural consequences. If I run my hand over a sharp knife and it cuts my skin, that is not a problem. It is a self inflicted injury. It is something that could be easily predicted and planned for. It still needs to be bandaged, but I have no right to complain about this terrible thing that happened to me.
We have all sorts of politicians of both parties weeping and wailing about our dire financial problems. They act as if this terrible thing has come upon their poor, innocent selves out of the blue and these hard working public servants are innocent victims of this unforeseen recession/depression. As with cutting our fingers with a knife, running out of money is the result of our government’s own actions… not by uncontrollable circumstances.
The people of this administration, and, to a lesser extent, the one before it, have no concept of the old saying, “If your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep will be your downfall.” Kids understand this basic economic concept, but somehow it escapes the grasp of our members of congress, even most of our state legislators. What is so difficult to understand about this… it’s not even higher math? Read more of this article »
We are at war…you and I at this very moment are at war. The definition of “war”, according to Webster’s Dictionary:
”a state of hostility, conflict, or antagonism/ a struggle or competition between opposing forces for a particular end”
Make no mistake, that while we are not fighting with armaments, we are still in a very real battle – the fight to protect our God-given and Constitutional rights as American citizens.
When a person or group resolves to take freedoms previously set forth by our founding fathers and then to also institute unwanted/unwarranted “changes” to our way of life…patriots will fight.
When a person or group flagrantly robs our nation of a healthy economy, spending OUR money (and worse, printing money to spend nonsensically, causing our currency to be essentially worthless) – a national debt so monumental that our great-grandchildren are ensured to STILL be paying it…patriots will fight.
When a person or group determines to dictate to us who we shall seek to provide services for ourselves and our family – health care, for starters…patriots will fight. Read more of this article »
Many of cheered announcement of Senators Chris Dodd and Byron Dorgan, that they would not seek re-election this year – actions brought about by declining… no make that nosediving,,, polling numbers for two men that some actually call “The Honorable” with a straight face. In a way it is good to see the rebellion of the tea party movement removing some of the worst of the worst from the Senate… with more to come. However, before we get too excited about the political demise of these dynamic Ds, lets look at this a bit closer.
As incompetent as the Democrats are in their leadership of the country, they are consummate politicians. As badly as the bungle ruling, they understand how to get elected and retain power, which is their sole purpose in life. Maybe it’s just finely tuned political instincts or prompting from the dark side, but these two dropping out of their respective races was a stroke of pure genius.
These two… with others to come… didn’t have snowball’s chance in hell of holding on to their seats. By dropping out now, they have removed the focus of public hostility for their personal corruption and incompetence, and the party now has the opportunity to run a fresh face who can lie to the public telling them that he wants nothing to do with Obama’s plans and schemes. They believe the people have such short memories and are so gullible as to believe campaign promises from the Obamessiah’s henchmen. It is our job to see that this does not happen. A friend of mind got hold of a document prepared for the Democrats as they hash out the differences between the House and Senate health insurance plans. If I were writing an opinion piece it would have to be that both plans are destructive to our economy and physical well being. However, because of the complete lack of openness in the process, it would be good to have this information disbursed as widely as possible.
You may want to ignore the first page as it’s just internal propaganda to rally the troops. Beyond that, there are comparisons of one atrocity after another. It is instructive to look into the various areas they think government interference can improve… or is it areas they wish to control? Check it out!
Ronald Reagan once said, “All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” Now is a time when we may be needing to take the lead, not just for the good of the country, but for our own survival. With our federal government borrowing like money is going out of style, we, the citizens who will be given the bill, have to not only fuss, fume and protest (which is generally ignored), but we must lead the way by example.
Credit card companies have been called by some “the grinch that stole Christmas”, and with pretty good cause at times, as too often bills from one Christmas overlap the next yule season. There have been some minor signs of restraint on the part of the consuming public, but this is just a beginning. I won’t bore you with statistics as everyone knows consumer credit has been excessive for many years, but has really gotten out of hand in recent years. The only statistics that really matter to most people are the ones on their own credit card bills. Seeing this trend, the lenders have been bumping up interest rates and fees while decreasing credit limits and rewards programs.
One TV financial consultant recommended making nice and kissing up to their representatives when you call them. This may work for a while, like a woman being nice to a rapist hoping he won’t hurt her too badly. It does not solve the problem! Read more of this article »
A FaceBook friend of mine recently commented that there used to be a time when bribery and corruption were done behind closed doors. Now they hold press conferences to announce their price. She is right… and we’ve just witnessed the most recent proof as Democrats struggled to squeeze their Senators to get Barack Hussein Obama’s health insurance scheme passed.
An unapologetic Harry Reid commented, “A number of states are treated differently than other states. That’s what legislation’s all about: compromise.” Meaning those that held out were had even more taxpayer money redistributed to their states. As usual, those standing against the government takeover got the shortest end of the financial stick while those rolling over to the pressure from above reaped the rewards of their treachery.
Most everyone is aware of the $300 million Louisiana Purchase of Mary Landrieu and the Cornhusker Kickback that showed Ben Nelson unworthy of being referenced as “The Honorable”. Those are but two instances of Harry Reid falling into the Chicago thugocracy practice of buying off their obstacles to their plans. It is possible they avoided the far worse fate of a “suicide” in Fort Marcy Park… not that that ever happened in the nation’s capitol. Read more of this article »
