It’s About The Children
The morning after Christmas, I sat watching my four year old grandson play, sometimes with his new toys, sometimes with his “old” ones. His little imagination taking him to who knows where as he was blissfully unaware of the plans afoot to destroy the health care system that brought him through several severe allergy attacks, place his higher education plans at the mercy of government bureaucrats and enslave him for a year or two in compulsory government service. He doesn’t know the value of the money used to buy him food, clothing and, yes, toys, is headed toward the devaluation that comes from ill advised economic policies.
Later in the day, four more grandsons arrived along with their parents. They are older and more aware of dangers – economic and physical that we face as a nation. One is ready to enter the world of higher education and is looking into the few institutions not dedicated to inflicting the leftist agenda on those working hard to meet the financial demands they place on their students. It seems that the struggle is getting more difficult every year.
Some of us may accept the anticipated hard times in our future as the natural result of Christians failing to do their job… hiding behind church doors, with so many shunning involvement in public affairs. Too often, even strong believes, have accepted the lie that religious convictions have no place in the arena of public discourse.
The First Amendment says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” Our founders clearly meant to handcuff the government’s attempts to regulate and restrict our expression of love and respect for our Creator and His laws. Christians, in their desire to be good citizens, have quietly acquiesced to laws and, primarily, court rulings, that we have to keep our religion to ourselves and not offend those who don’t share our values.
We need to be mindful of that the Gospel is an offense and we will be offensive to those who do not accept it. But we also need to remember Peter’s response when taken before the Sanhedrin. They said to him, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name… Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.” Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than men! The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” (Acts 5:28-32)
It is only through a change in people’s hearts that the country will see the lasting improvements we need. However, to get to that point, we must continue to stand by our Saviour and His values. This is the only way to stem the tide of greed that makes people cry for more and more of things they have not earned. This is the only way to ease the guilt of those who attempt to help those less fortunate by shifting the burden to others instead of helping people themselves. This is the only way leaders can be stopped in their lust for ever increasing power over the people. This is the only way we can give our children and grandchildren a better world.
But, we are not entering this struggle just for ourselves and families… although that would be enough reason. We fighting even for those who stand against us. Most of us have read the back of the book and know how this all will come to and end. We can’t use that as an excuse to sit back and just watch things unfold. We need to work for our kids, and the kids of those who oppose us… even those of Barack Hussein Obama.
