No Decision Is A Decision

Obama-Clinton.jpgBarack Hussein Obama appears to be having a difficult time deciding if he will take the word of his man on the scene, General Stanley McCrystal who requested 40,000 more soldiers in the field to the job done. He also has the anti-American left that put him in office to please. They just want us to waive the white flag, apologize for being Americans and slink on home. It’s also possible that each of his advisors has their own little variation on the best way to accomplish whatever they would like to see happen in Afghanistan.

While we could argue about our justification for being in the God-forsaken land, but, while it may make us feel good, that ship has sailed. This involvement is quite a picklement for the man who may sincerely be trying to balance his duties as Commander in Chief with his own feelings about the country and those of his most vocal supporters. He gives the appearance of sincerely looking for input and weighing the virtues of each suggestion.

This past weekend, rumors were flying about that he would take partial measures to meet the field commanders requests. Thirty thousand they said, would be on their way… as soon as they could be prepared. This turned out to be false hope for the troops holding things together. Who knows, it may have been a trial balloon to test his supporters reaction to the news.

It may have been a call from George Soros, his pals at the Daily Kos, Huffington Post, MoveOn.org or any of his supporters, any of whom would put in a good word to weaken our military and our country. It’s hard to say why this story got started, then shot down, but the fact remains… no decision was made… or did he decide on a plan?

Secretary of State and political rival, Hillary Clinton appeared to favor giving McCrystal the full 40,000 he requested, thus insuring that would not be the choice. All the while Obama “dithered” as Dick Cheney called it. The master orator appears to be stumped on this one… but is he? The Narcissist in Chief who picked the “smartest woman in the world” to be his Secretary of State enjoys and finds it totally appropriate that the press, the military and the whole world is hanging on his every thought.

Despite reports from the field that time is of the essence, Obama supporter, Colin Powell, says the decision is important enough that he needs to take his time and get all the information to make it right – not quite like he did with health care takeover. Oh yes, he’s pushing that through like he did bailouts with, most likely, the same effect. This may give some credence to the argument for taking more time, assuming, that his basic world view and the way it colors his assessment of the facts could ever lead him to a workable solution.

What really is behind this “slow motion train wreck” as John Bolton calls it? As we await this god-like wisdom to flow down from the White House on the hill, we need to remember that no decision is also a decision. Up to this point, the decision has been not to send any more troops to the region. He is given the benefit of the doubt by those in agreement with General McCrystal, while he is not castigated too strongly by the modern day hippie anti-war left.

Now after all this time has elapsed and more soldiers have died and families are left weeping at home, his wisdom tells us that none of the plans meet with his approval. The various military advisors who have dedicated their lives to planning and executing operations that generally get the job done are told to go back to the drawing board. They need to include disengagement strategies – plans for turning the security of the country over to it’s own citizens, and, somehow, factor in dealing with the corruption of the administration.

Unless they are politically correct or affirmative action promotions, the men leading the US forces in Afghanistan, did not get there by being foolish or ignoring the circumstances they are dealing with. It’s hard to believe that these intelligent leaders on the scene did not already factor in these situations, unless, of course, they received orders to the contrary. If this is the case, we have a breakdown in leadership… a problem guiding these men in their work. It’s hard to say, but this ploy appears to be one more action to delay making a decision.

It has been apparent right from the start that domestic issues were at the top of the new president’s agenda. Expanding executive power and moving the country toward European style socialism were all we saw from the occupant of the White House. Our armed forces were even downgraded in importance when he spoke of a civilian force, as well trained and well financed as the military to promote his agenda.

Where is all this taking us? This decision not to act on his hand-picked general’s advice on the execution of a war Obama told us was his real concern as he campaigned for the office of Redistributor in Chief may well have been his decision. In refusing to honor the General’s request he is forgetting the lessons learned from the massive 1972 Christmas bombings of Hanoi and Haiphong that led the North Vietnamese back to the bargaining table where State Department negotiators, unfortunately, did not have the will of President Nixon, and gave away the farm. But in any case, despite the diplomatic failure, the military operation achieved its goal and the war was over in southeast Asia. The men who should know what will bring victory are ignored as he dawdles with the academic types who have never held a real job in their lives.

The President is “uncomfortable” with the concept of victory. Perhaps this is why he is doing everything in his power to avoid it. It may even be that he is patiently waiting for the situation in Afghanistan to deteriorate to the point where we are all tired of it and ask him to follow his radical supporters vision and just throw in the towel. How many more of our fine soldiers will loose their lives because this man will not give them the help to get the job done? It is unfortunate that Barack Hussein Obama cannot be prosecuted for criminal negligence for every one of them.

He says he is working on a decision, but until wheels are set into motion to give the commanders on the ground the resources to secure victory, or a withdrawal announcement is made, we need to remember that this unwillingness to render a decision is, in itself, a decision not to meet the needs of our soldiers on the ground who are ducking bullets and dodging IEDs. Obama can be glad for the safety of the White House where these things don’t effect him.
