Ironically, an enthusiastic Fannie Mae Foundation report singled out one paragon of nondiscriminatory lending, which worked with community activists and followed “the most flexible underwriting criteria permitted.” That lender’s $1 billion commitment to low-income loans in 1992 had grown to $80 billion by 1999 and $600 billion by early 2003. The lender they were speaking of was Countrywide, which specialized in subprime lending and had a working relationship with with ACORN.

Investor’s Business Daily added: The revisions also allowed for the first time the securitization of CRA-regulated loans containing subprime mortgages. The changes came as radical “housing rights” groups led by ACORN lobbied for such loans. ACORN at the time was represented by a young public- interest lawyer in Chicago by the name of Barack Obama. Jim Simpson on “Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis” edited

No one has connected all the dots between Barack Obama and the Radical Left, but it is apparent that he is a willing participant and has spent most of his adult life immersed in it. Obama can be tied directly to a strategy that has motivated many, of the radical leftist organizations in the US since the 1960s: The Cloward-Piven Strategy of Manufactured Crisis.

The Cloward-Piven Strategy was first seen in the May 2, 1966 issue of The Nation magazine by a pair of radical socialist Columbia University professors, Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven. David Horowitz summarizes it as:

The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse. Have a Great Weekend!

familyMost of us ate too much and some will go out Friday and stimulate the economy by spending way too much at the malls and shopping centers throughout the country.  I am hoping that in spite of some of our excesses of this holiday, we can appreciate the family we spent time with… and those who couldn’t be there this year… much longer than memory the excellent food and great fellowship stays with us.  We need to keep these people close to our hearts as we watch the destruction of the America we know.  It will give us the motivation and courage to push back and put a stop the the foolishness of our own government.

If we act just to preserve benefits for ourselves, we are unlikely to be able to sustain the effort needed to get the job done.  However if we remeber that we are not alone and people are depending on us, we can see our effort through to victory.  We just need to remember… unlike those pushing the socialist agenda… it’s not abut us.  Think ab out it when you tuck your kids in bed or hug your grandchildren.  They are the most important reasons to protect the country we have been given.

George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Posted by Elmer on under Why | Be the First to Comment

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us. A Thanksgiving In Distress

Posted by Larry Miller on November 24, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

RoastTurkeyEditors note: this is a letter a New Jersey woman wrote to her local paper expressing what many of us feel this time of year. Thanksgiving is a great time to enjoy our families and express gratitude for all the good things this great country has to offer. However we cannot forget those who cannot be with their families and friends this holiday season… just like we cannot forget those who will never be coming home to their families and friends. Keep them in your prayers as well, both for their safety and their sense of abandonment. If there is a family near you that will be alone because daddy or mommy is overseas, why not invite them to join you for your dinner?

Dear Editor:

While I’m eating my Thanksgiving dinner with my family this year, I’m going to have a hard time enjoying it knowing that our President is willingly allowing our men and women in Afghanistan to die while waiting for him to make up his mind whether or not to give them the resources they need for survival. Questions Regarding The Fort Hood Massacre

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on November 23, 2009 under Why | 3 Comments to Read

soldierprayBy now, virtually everyone has read and reread the copious news accounts of the terrible shooting a few weeks ago at Fort Hood, Texas. This column will not attempt to add new details to what is already a highly scrutinized tragedy. However, I do want to pose three basic questions that, to me, are extremely glaring and, for the most part, absent from the discussion.

Question 1: Why were the soldiers not armed?

After all, this is a military base; more than that, it is an Army base that emphasizes the training and equipping of frontline, combat-ready soldiers. For the most part, these were not clerks or cooks; these were combat troops. Fort Hood is home to the 1st Cavalry Division (the largest Division in the Army). Troops stationed at Fort Hood have engaged the enemy in virtually every hot theater of war to which American forces have been deployed. In recent conflicts that means Somalia, Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Without a doubt, these are among America’s bravest and best.

So, how is it that these intensely trained, disciplined, rugged, highly qualified warriors are not allowed to carry their own weapons on base? This makes about as much sense as the policy forbidding airline pilots from carrying their own handguns on board commercial airliners, or teachers not being allowed to carry their own handguns in the classroom. After all, judges are granted the authority to carry their own firearms into the courtroom. If we can trust lawyers, we should be able to trust soldiers, airline pilots, and teachers. The Manhattan Declaration – More Heroes Take A Stand

Posted by Larry Miller on November 22, 2009 under How | Be the First to Comment

colson“Because we honor justice and the common good, we will not comply with any edict that purports to compel our institutions to participate in abortions, embryo-destructive research, assisted suicide and euthanasia, or any other anti-life act; nor will we bend to any rule purporting to force us to bless immoral sexual partnerships, treat them as marriages or the equivalent, or refrain from proclaiming the truth, as we know it, about morality and immorality and marriage and the family. We will fully and ungrudgingly render to Caesar what is Caesar’s. But under no circumstances will we render to Caesar what is God’s.”

So concludes the Manhattan Declaration, penned in part by Chuck Colson and signed by 152 Orthodox, Catholic and Evangelical church leaders. The list of signatures reads like a Who’s Who of the Christian world. What these courageous men and women have done is to take their beliefs outside of the confines of the church and into the real world where they can make an impact in our society. In some ways we can thank the current administration for the slap in the face that woke up both the tea party people and, now, the religious leaders. Prior to this time, our country had been drifting toward destruction… now we are rushing headlong to the end of our country as we know it.

Below, I’ve included some excerpts that convey the concerns and spirit of the document. You can read the complete declaration and list of signers at http://tinyurl.com/ykrmek4 Read more of this article »

SEIU… what we are up against!

Posted by Larry Miller on November 21, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

Have a look at this video if you have any doubts about they kind of people running SEIU and their ethics. Most of us have seen the videos of their fellow travelers, ACORN, trying to help a pimp and his hooker set up houses of ill repute fulled with underage girls slipped in from South America.  These people  want to kick our butts like they did the National Union of Healthcare Workers in Fresno CA.  We cannot allow these people to gain any more control or power in this country.  It’s kind of like al qaeda and their friends… they were at war with us long before we realized it.

SEIU has big ambitions and they are not good for us.  These ambitions take them overseas into a world wide grip on labor.  Like I said, watch the video and see how you feel about the the organization and it’s operations. And keep in mind that SEIU president Andy Stern is the single person that visited the White House most since Barack Hussein Obama took office. Like he said, judge him by the quality of people he has around him.

Israel Stands Up To The O-man

Posted by Larry Miller on November 19, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

israeli flagOnce again the Israeli government is defying international pressure, and our very own Barack Hussein Obama, as they begin building a 124 unit apartment complex in the Gilo section of Jerusalem. This is a section of the city that never was occupied by Arabs and is not being built on Arab owned land. Yet, the President of the United States of America has taken it upon himself to order that this not be done. For those who did not realize that Israel was subject to US authority, you are among most of the world outside of Washington DC.

We have seen a shift in American loyalties and support since our new President has taken office. Where in times past, we realized that Israel was our one reliable friend and ally in the middle east, the new kids in town have a decidedly different outlook and value system. They now hear with favor the complaints from the Palestinians who refuse to integrate into any society, in Israel or any of the of the surrounding friendlier countries.

Zalman Shoval, Former Israeli Ambassador to the US, believes there are two possible reasons for this determined attempt at interference in the country’s domestic affairs. “Perhaps they confused the Gilo issue with the planning of a new Israeli neighborhood between Gilo and Beit Jala. Overall, when you sit in Washington and look at the maps it’s hard to tell the difference. The other reason could be that the US administration wants to encourage Abu Mazen (Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) and is also trying to cover up Hillary Clinton’s various statements, maybe they were trying to create a balance.” Read more of this article »

SEIU vs Boy Scouts

Posted by Larry Miller on November 18, 2009 under Why | Read the First Comment

boy-scout-seiu“There’s to be no volunteers!” declared Nick Balzano, president of the Service Employees International Union’s Allentown, PA chapter. The cause of his consternation was a 17 year old Boy Scout from nearby Center Valley who, along with friends and fellow scouts, cleared a 1000 walking path in Allentown’s Kimmets Lock Park.

The scout, Kevin Anderson, a junior at my son’s alma mater, Southern Lehigh High School, was working toward Eagle Scout and was looking to do something to improve the community. The SEIU local, still smarting from recent member layoffs, was looking out for the welfare of its members. The service in the union’s name certainly was not for the benefit of the citizens of Allentown.

Balzno told the city council that he was looking into filing a grievance against the city for allowing volunteers to do work that should have been done by union personnel. Then, showing a little of Tony Soprano persona added, “We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails.” Showing surprising awareness of the damaged public relations, SEIU spokesman Matt Nerzig jumped into the act, telling reporters Balzano’s response was “unauthorized and insensitive“. So young Mr. Anderson may be blessed to continue walking about on unbroken kneecaps. Read more of this article »

Some Things Just Don’t Look Right

Posted by Larry Miller on under Why | Be the First to Comment

There has been quite a fuss about the White House web site, http://www.recovery.gov, touting the wonderful success in creating (or saving) jobs with their stimulus money. We are to read this and swoon with delight at the way our federal government is handling the situation with effectiveness and efficiency. Unfortunately, as with most everything from this current administration, the site is long on promise and hype and short on usable information. Aside from two minor points this is all good to know. The first point is that economists have no metric that covers “jobs saved” as it’s kind of hard to count and prove. The second point is that pages that were available yesterday have apparently been pulled down in embarrassment.

My home state of Virginia has eleven congressional districts, yet money was spent and jobs created (or saved) in districts 00 through 98. This information is coming from an organization headed by a man who told us he was in almost all of our 57 states. Admittedly, the bulk of the money is listed as having been spent in the real eleven districts. One really has to wonder what good openness would do us poor citizens, if the information we are given has little or only a tangential relationship to reality.

The formerly available table tells us that a little over $51K was sent to our 98th district to create 0 jobs. None were even “saved”! Just a little shy of $700K was sent to our non-existent 36th district to create (or save) 10 jobs. That’s a lot of money to slip off into the black hole of political corruption into the hands of dishonest politicians, union officials and connected cronies. Yet that is chump change compared to the more than a billion dollars that went into the notorious Democrat Bobby Scott’s 3rd district. You have to be from the Old Dominion to grasp the irony of this situation… although Scott’s district went a long way to secure the Obama victory last year. Read more of this article »

Sharia Law Is Misunderstood

Posted by Laura Alcorn on November 16, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

AfghanBurkaDid you realize that “The majority of women around the world associate justice for women, with Sharia compliance”? That’s right, according to Dalia Mogahed, President Obama’s, Islamist appointee on the Advisory Council on Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, made this astonishing statement in an interview on a British television show. Mogahed has made news before as a member of the U.S. Muslim Engagement Project, which called for “engagement” with the Muslim Brotherhood — the organization that has a 100 year plan for subverting and overthrowing the West. She teamed up with John Esposito to conduct a poll on Islam, then misrepresented some of the results (some called it “cooking the books”) in order to increase the number of Muslim “moderates.”

What makes Mogahed’s assertion about Shariah even more disturbing is that she made it in an interview hosted by a member of the radical Islamist organization Hizb ut Tahrir on the British Muslim show “Muslimah Dilemma”. HT is committed to the non-violent overthrow of democracy and capitalism and the worldwide imposition under Sharia Islamic law. The organization has been banned as a terrorist organization in several countries — but remarkably, not here in the United States. Miss Mogahed appeared alongside Hizb ut Tahrir’s (HT) national women’s officer, Nazreen Nawaz. During the discussion, on the Islam Channel programme Muslimah Dilemma, the two members of the group made repeated attacks on secular “man-made law” and the West’s “lethal cocktail of liberty and capitalism”. You Might Be A Constitutionalist If . . .

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on November 15, 2009 under Why | Read the First Comment

us_constitution_flagI originally published this column back in January of 2005. Since then (and especially lately), many people have called and written with requests to republish it. So, with a few minor revisions, here it is.

More than thirty years as a student of American history, constitutional government, and the Holy Bible leads me to the conviction that the two major political parties in this country (at the national level) are equally culpable in stripping America of its founding principles. In my opinion, both the Democrat and Republican parties in Washington, D.C., have zero fidelity to the U.S. Constitution and zero respect for America’s foundational precepts.

In my studied opinion, neither the Democrat nor Republican Party (at the national level) has any intention of slowing the out-of-control expansion of government. Neither party has demonstrated any loyalty to preserving and protecting our constitutional form of government.

Like National Socialists and Soviet Socialists of old, the only thing that concerns Democrats and Republicans today is who is in power. Both are equally willing to destroy the freedoms and liberties of people without conscience or regret as long as their party remains in control. Read more of this article »

More Thoughts On Political Correctness

Posted by Larry Miller on November 14, 2009 under How | 2 Comments to Read

I had the fortune of hearing Brigitte Gabriel a few years ago and was struck by the clarity of her message. Political correctness is, on one hand, a method of controlling the expressed thoughts and actions of the masses through social and, sometimes, legal, pressures. On the other hand, it attempts to clear the way for the one message our “betters” want us to hear and act on. It comes from the halls of academia which is supposed to be the bastion of free thought and expression. However, in practice, thought is only free if it stays within the confines of the leader’s wishes. Other expression is deemed anti-social and must be restricted for the smooth functioning of the progressive agenda at work in most universities, media outlets and government agencies. No Decision Is A Decision

Posted by Larry Miller on November 12, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

Obama-Clinton.jpgBarack Hussein Obama appears to be having a difficult time deciding if he will take the word of his man on the scene, General Stanley McCrystal who requested 40,000 more soldiers in the field to the job done. He also has the anti-American left that put him in office to please. They just want us to waive the white flag, apologize for being Americans and slink on home. It’s also possible that each of his advisors has their own little variation on the best way to accomplish whatever they would like to see happen in Afghanistan.

While we could argue about our justification for being in the God-forsaken land, but, while it may make us feel good, that ship has sailed. This involvement is quite a picklement for the man who may sincerely be trying to balance his duties as Commander in Chief with his own feelings about the country and those of his most vocal supporters. He gives the appearance of sincerely looking for input and weighing the virtues of each suggestion.

This past weekend, rumors were flying about that he would take partial measures to meet the field commanders requests. Thirty thousand they said, would be on their way… as soon as they could be prepared. This turned out to be false hope for the troops holding things together. Who knows, it may have been a trial balloon to test his supporters reaction to the news.

It may have been a call from George Soros, his pals at the Daily Kos, Huffington Post, MoveOn.org or any of his supporters, any of whom would put in a good word to weaken our military and our country. It’s hard to say why this story got started, then shot down, but the fact remains… no decision was made… or did he decide on a plan? Read more of this article »
