The GOP really owes its start with Hamilton, then Henry Clay's Whigs, to Lincoln and topped off with Teddy Roosevelt, all interventionist elites, which defines McCain, Graham and others on their side. The 19th century Democrats were the Libertarians and Conservatives, and the 20th century Democrats threw out Jefferson to Cleveland for Rousseau and Marx, as cited in THE CHANGING FACE OF DEMOCRATS (Amazon.com) and www.claysamerica.com. So, the conservative Republican is a new animal drawing more from the 19th century Democrats than Republicans and, hopefully, will be able to displace the wishy-washy Republicans like McCain.
