Scozzafava Is Gone!

Posted by Larry Miller on October 31, 2009 under How | 2 Comments to Read

Dede-ScozzafavaThis morning the Dede Scozzafava showed a surprising amount of common sense in withdrawing from the New York special election. This appears to be a direct result of the support received by her Conservative Party opponent, but registered Republican Doug Hoffman. It is a victory for the grassroots tea partiers who soundly rejected the liberal choice of eleven county chairmen.

Normally a third party candidate is accused of muddying the waters and hurting the “establishment” candidate. This time the situation was reversed as the official party candidate was running far behind the two primary candidates. The party leaders could not blame her defeat on the presence of a much more popular man running for another party. Instead, they, themselves, could be blamed for the election of a liberal Democrat. Trick or Treat?… A Season of Halloween

Posted by Alexis Wallace on October 29, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

halloweenThe mask of innocence that has hidden the truth of Halloween is now badly cracked. The Word of God tells us that, that which is hid in the darkness must come out to light. (Luke 12:3)

For many years the truth about Halloween has been hid in the clouds of tradition. We have called it fun, as we have decorated our homes and dressed up our little munchkins in costumes to wonder around from house to house, knocking on doors and ringing door bells shouting, “Trick or Treat!” I still remember my childhood joy from my harvest of candies, in days when ignorance was bliss. I think my parents allowed me to go only once.

But is Halloween really a trick or treat? And if it is a trick, just how great has the deception been?

EZEKIEL 44:23: AND THEY SHALL TEACH MY PEOPLE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOLY AND PROFANE, AND CAUSE THEM TO DISCERN BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN.

The very creation of Halloween mixes that which is meant to be holy with that which is profane: Read more of this article »

The Thought Police Are On Their Way

police_state.trooperBarack Hussein Obama signed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act as congress took upon itself the task of attempting to negate teachings such as I Corinthians 6:9 that says “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders” and Leviticus 18:22 that says “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.” In creating special protections for these practices those they are also disregarding Isaiah 5:20, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.”

Setting aside the ultimate consequences for the people involved, this is a clear violation of the First Amendment which says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” We have reassurances from Attorney General Eric Holder who said, “It is the person who commits the actual act of violence, who would be subject to this legislation, not the person who is simply expressing an opinion,”

I would imagine that these claims of innocent intent would rank right up their with promises that gun registration would not lead to weapon confiscation. These assurances things may be entirely sincere, but our government in general and the majority party in particular do not have a stellar record in this regard. One has to remember the old saying, “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me seventy times seven… shame on me.” We will forgive them, but our experience has imprinted on our psyches that we have been lied to so often in the past. We must remember that they would not tell us these things if they didn’t want us to believe them. Some things are just too important to leave to chance or to people with spotty reliability records. Rendezvous With Destiny

Yesterday marked the 45th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s ascendancy to the national stage with his pre-election speech supporting Barry Goldwater. Goldwater did not win, but the country won when they began to recognize what a fountain of wisdom was within the future president. After reviewing this video, I believed the Great Communicator could express our situation and solution better than my feeble words. Listen and enjoy.

The video runs for about half an hour, but here are a few excerpts to take away and make your own if time does not permit a full viewing:

And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except the sovereign people, is still the newest and the most unique idea in all the long history of man’s relation to man. Read more of this article »

Freedom’s Destruction By Constitutional De-Construction

During the Constitutional Convention, from May to September 1787, delegates from the colonies were to gather together for the express purpose of amending the Articles of Confederation to form a “more perfect union” (NOT a completely different union!). The men that met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were under direct and limited orders from their states to attend the Federal Convention explicitly to preserve the federation and State rights and to correct the errors of the existing federal government for the limited purposes of handling foreign affairs, commerce among the states and common defense.

Yet, during that private and secret convention, there were men who proposed that a national system be established in place of their current federal system, destroying State sovereignty in direct contradiction to their orders. (Jonathan Elliot, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adoption of the Federal Constitution as Recommended by the General Convention at Philadelphia in 1787, vol. 1, 2nd ed., [Philadelphia, PA, JB Lippincott, 1891], 121) Of course, the public was not aware of this fact until years after the ratification of the Constitution, when the notes taken in the convention were printed and released to the public. Principle or Power?

Posted by Larry Miller on October 25, 2009 under How | 2 Comments to Read

Sarah PalinWe see in the New York’s 23rd Congressional district a microcosm of the travails of the present day Republican Party. It reveals two basic political philosophies, one that has led the party into defeat and disrepute and one that actually puts the good of the country over the party’s vested interests. Those who consider themselves Republicans first see only the replacement of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House… along with the power and perks of committee chairmanships. They are chasing form over substance and purpose.

This kind of thinking lets Republicans believe they have a majority when they can never really get them to act like a majority. It is the thinking that populates their caucuses with the likes of Lindsey Graham and Olympia Snowe, who can be relied upon to help the party snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at regular intervals. They become like “that splintered reed of a staff, which pierces a man’s hand and wounds him if he leans on it!” as II Kings 18:21 describes it.

Working for the victory of just anyone who calls themselves a Republican puts the party in a position where being named as one means nothing in reality. I could call myself a table… but that would not make me one. When Newt Gingrich and the National Republican Congressional Committee endorsed Dede Scozzafava, they joined the New York State United Teachers, the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #2, the Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Central Trades and Labor Council, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 910 (can anyone say ‘card check’), Senator Susan Collins, ACORN, and the Daily Kos! Till All Is Clear

freespeech2America, I am tired of hearing the rhetoric. We either believe what we are all talking about, or we don’t. If we don’t, we need to just shut up and go on taking this mess, and watch our country fall.

If we fight it, we will prevail. Take some backbone from our forefathers, be willing to put it all on the line.

For those of you who aren’t willing to come to the front, crawl in a hole till all is clear. Then you better be thankful for those who stood up for your rights as an American. Just know you will always be looked on as a coward who ran from your responsibility as an American Citizen. Sing the Star Spangled Banner to yourself.

The greatest thing I am fighting for is our Freedom. The God I serve is BIG, nothing on this earth measures up to God. If you believe, and have faith, then we as a nation, founded on Godly values, will come alive again. America, stop playing games. Those whom believe, may not fire the first shot, but will be heard. Will not retreat. We are not the cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz. Read more of this article »

The Fruits of the Left

Posted by Larry Miller on October 21, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

elizabethFrom Leon Trotsky, to Mao Zedong, to Hugo Chávez, leftists have long claimed to champion the interests of the poor and oppressed. In the United States, the left routinely trots out horror stories in order to frighten people into supporting their agenda, and to paint their opponents as unfeeling monsters who have no compassion for the common man. History, however, paints a different picture.

No one incident illustrates the hollowness of this leftist narrative more than the murder of Saint Elizabeth the New Martyr. Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, as she was known in life, was a German princess who married into the Russian royal family in 1884 and was renowned for her beauty, charm, and compassion. When a socialist revolutionary named Ivan Kalyayev assassinated her husband in 1905, she asked Tsar Nicholas II to forgive him. Kalyayev would not accept a royal pardon, however, and was executed for his crime.

Elizabeth sold all of her possessions, including her wedding ring, and opened a convent in Moscow that included a hospital, pharmacy, and orphanage. She dedicated her life to helping Moscow’s poor. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Vladimir Lenin, leader of the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party, allowed Elizabeth to continue her work with the convent, but as soon as it was expedient, Lenin ordered her arrest.

In July 1918, communist police took Elizabeth, along with other members of the royal family, to an abandoned iron mine outside the village of Siniachikha. They beat the prisoners and pushed them into the mine, afterwards throwing in a few grenades for good measure. Only one of the prisoners died immediately. Elizabeth and the others began to sing hymns, at which point the secret police shoved dry brush into the mine shaft and lit it on fire. By the time forces loyal to the monarchy arrived, all of the prisoners were dead.

The Russian Orthodox Church formally canonized Elizabeth in 1992. Read more of this article »

These Are Not Negotiable

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on October 20, 2009 under How, Why | Be the First to Comment

rejectIn the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies.”

I would argue that we, like our patriot forebears, have also endured “patient sufferance.” For at least a half-century, we have patiently endured the erosion and abridgment of our freedoms and liberties.  We have watched the federal government become an overbearing and meddlesome Nanny State that pokes its nose and sticks its fingers in virtually everything we do. We cannot drive a car, buy a gun, or even flush a toilet without Big Brother’s permission. We are taxed, regulated, and snooped-on from the time we are born to the day we die. And then after we are dead, we are taxed again.

In the same way that Jefferson and Company patiently suffered up until that shot was fired that was heard around the world, we who love freedom today are likewise patiently suffering “a long train of abuses and usurpations.” In fact, I would even dare say that these States United have become a boiling caldron of justifiable frustration and even anger.

Accordingly, it is incumbent upon us to very seriously and thoughtfully examine those principles that we absolutely will never cede or surrender. We have already surrendered much of the freedom that was bequeathed to us by our forefathers. We are now to the point that we must define those principles that form our “line in the sand” and that we will not surrender under any circumstance. Either that, or we must admit to ourselves that there is nothing–no principle, no freedom, no matter how sacred–that we will not surrender to Big Government. Read more of this article »

The Power of Courage and Life

Soldiers in rows and rows and rows,
In infinite rows of
Infinite possibilites of oppression,
While innocent bystanders
Fumble through words and motions
Playing the pathetic part of victim.
Shadowy shadows dancing in the night with delight
At the sight of such tomfoolery.
Lost in a sea of misunderstandings and misunderstood,
Wanting to be recognized
Amidst the lies that stretch into an eternal dead sea.
This is not your home.
Awake to the sense of self that calls forth from you
The power of courage and life.
Ignite the flame that extinguishes fear,
The perfect and complete love,
The love that resides inside you.
It’s been calling you since childhood,
Calling you to a greater good.
Vanquish the mocking shadows with the light;
The brilliant, beautiful light.
The light that is created through hope.
The hope that is created through love.
The love that is created through you.

Interesting Weekend

Posted by Larry Miller on under How | Be the First to Comment

tv12bIt was a cold and sometimes drizzly and blustery day in central Virginia Saturday, but that didn’t mean the struggles we face take a holiday… just because it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable to be out and about, the struggles do not end. The first event of the day began with the “Can You Hear Us Now” gathering outside the Richmond NBC affiliate. I chose Channel 12 because, unlike the other two stations, this one wasn’t located in on of the “nicer” sections of town. It turned out my guess was right as, even though we had twenty or so patriots with their signs, it was the smallest of the groups.

It was, however, a great group and we carried our message to the public at least, as we got no official response from the station, granted these places have minimal staff on duty over the weekend. However, other than homeward bound traffic, we saw the more people going past the location than any other time during the week. We were under the observation and protection of three motorcycle officers across the street as the city had been notified that we would be making our case. There were a surprising number of positive responses though from the people driving by… I didn’t see any negative reactions, even though some just turned away when they read our signs. It was a good time and several thousand Richmonders saw that we were not happy with the deference NBC shows to the big government politicians.

From there, I went over to the Republican Round Up held by the House Minority Whip. As it has been for the last several years, it was a gathering of Republican faithful from Virginia’s 7th District and around the commonwealth. The weather was still inhospitable, but the barbeque was good. Read more of this article »

A Scientific World In Denial

Posted by Larry Miller on October 15, 2009 under How | Be the First to Comment

algoreA brief check of the Drudge Report yesterday afternoon showed some interesting headlines. Individually they show what’s happening in some localities around our country. The first one read “Heavy snow expected in PA…”, and this is only mid-October. Next came “Chicago record breaking cold continues…”, followed by “Montana records fall…”. Then there was one more “FORECASTS BLOWN: ‘09 Atlantic hurricane season quietest in decade…”. There is on theme running through these news stories: GLOBAL WARMING AINT HAPPENING!

We see headlines like this almost every day, everywhere but on the evening news and most newspapers. The stories behind these headlines tell us the supposedly warming planet is indeed CCOOOLLLLDDDD! The last one gives lie to the predictions of heavy weather events triggered by a climate spiraling out of control.

What we see on the evening news is puff pieces on Algore and warnings about the poor polar bears drowning because of shrinking ice flows. The only problem is these stories just are not true.

Worse yet, the Tides Foundation is supplying a video to public schools called “The Story of Stuff”, which if it were true, would mean that we would have about four acres of woodlands left. Again the truth is sacrificed to make a point. And the point is being made to young minds that don’t have the background and resources to recognize the lies for what they are. Prejudice In The NFL

Posted by Larry Miller on under How | Be the First to Comment

In what has been called a “high tech lynching”, Rush Limbaugh has been forced out of a group attempting to buy the St. Louis Rams. The man, who is the epitome of the American success story, finds himself being lied about and labeled by members of the media who he has roundly criticized for being lapdogs of the Obama administration, as they prove they have no interest in fact-checking when the victim is one the feel “deserves it”.

He has been quoted, by some media outlets, as saying slavery had its merits, that at least the streets were safe at night. However, when pressed for documentation of the supposed outrage, they became strangely silent. Then they fall back on his comments about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Donovan McNabb, who he said was overrated because the media were interested in promoting the success of a black man in the position. Hmmmm, sounds like comments about Barack Hussein Obama.

As a Eagles fan from back in the days when Pete Retzlaff played tight end, and one who enjoys watching McNabb, Westbrook and company pick NFL defenses apart, I have to respectfully disagree with this assessment. However, we are, up to this time, a free country where people are permitted to have their opinions… even if they love the Steelers as Mr. Limbaugh does. There is no accounting for some peoples taste. What Do You Stand For?

Posted by Larry Miller on October 14, 2009 under How | Read the First Comment

torchesnpitchforksMany People in the US claim to be Christians. According to a recent Gallop poll, 77% make the claim. Yet we have courts and an administration promoting homosexual marriage, the slaughter of innocent babies, and the destruction of the American economy by wasteful and unwise spending. One has to ask… “What are we thinking?”

I understand those who claim to be Christians are not a monolithic block of citizens with a uniform belief system. We are not all alike. The book of Matthew talks about some of these:

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ Matthew 7:15-23 (NIV) Read more of this article »

“Ravenwood” Reviewed

Montana JailIt’s hard to say what’s going on in Hardin, Montana. It may be even the residents of the aren’t sure. Tumultuous times like ours breed speculations from limited information. We have seen actions by our government that has caused many of us to loose trust in our basic institutions… and for some, hope in a brighter future.

There are some with pretty vivid imaginations, taking off on minimal information and building a whole fantastic construct from mostly thin air. The recent activity in this small western town does not fit this. Even those who say there is nothing to rumors of nefarious doings recognize that there is some character riding around town in an SUV (Mercedes yet) with a Hardin Police logo. They have pictures of this guy in a police uniform.

The town has no official police force. They fall under the nearby Billings jurisdiction. So what is up with a pseudo policeman roaming the streets and no one takes exception to it? I think one would be hard pressed to find a jurisdiction where this type impersonation would not warrant some attention… usually resulting in time behind bars. To me, it just doesn’t pass the smell test. I’m sure if I were to put some sort of local police decal on my car and come up with at least a semi-official looking outfit, I would soon run afoul of the Chesterfield constabulary. Why did this not happen in Hardin?

The other part of the story is the empty four hundred plus bed prison in the town. This appears to be the result of misguided investment by some people trying to bring employment to the town. It may be that some knew more than most, or it could be a fortuitous circumstance that our government may have the opportunity to take advantage of somewhere in the future. Hard to say. “Ravenwood” Comes To America

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on October 11, 2009 under Why | Read the First Comment

jericho2Fans of the CBS-terminated TV series JERICHO will recognize the name “Ravenwood.” This was the ruthless mercenary force used by the illegitimate federal government at Cheyenne to subjugate the citizens of Kansas in the aftermath of a massive nuclear attack against two dozen American cities. As with much of JERICHO’s superbly written story line, Ravenwood reflected real-world entities. Private mercenary forces have been used extensively throughout the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, as well as in many other theaters. And as JERICHO correctly depicted, these “private contractors” have largely operated without oversight or accountability. (Can anyone say, “Blackwater”?) For the most part, the American people are unfamiliar with these mercenary forces, because they normally operate in foreign theaters of war. JERICHO put them on the streets of U.S. cities. Now it looks like JERICHO was more prophecy than fiction.

An underreported (what’s new?) story out of a little town in Montana has brought real-life drama to the CBS blockbuster TV series. Interestingly enough, CBS is the only major news network that has covered the Montana story.

In the little town of Hardin, Montana (which is about the same size as the fictitious town of Jericho, Kansas, in the TV series), a private security firm, American Police Force (APF), has been contracted to provide all police services and to manage the operation of the town’s jail. According to local news reports out of Billings, Montana, “American Police Force officials showed up in Mercedes SUV’s that had ‘Hardin Police’ stenciled on the vehicles. The twist, the city of Hardin doesn’t have a police department.

“Two Rivers Authority [the city's economic development agency] officials say having APF patrol the streets was never part of their agenda.” (Source: KULR-8 Television, Billings, Montana) Read more of this article »

The Bill of Rights: Can Our Government Afford It?

billofrightsWe hear a lot and talk about our rights as Americans. We talk about the Bill of Rights… the first ten amendments to our constitution. These amendments were added almost immediately after ratification because the original document, while beautifully setting up the a government that functioned well for many years. It would be good to review this document from time to time, just to so we know what rights we have, and when they are being violated.

Bill of Rights

Reclaiming Individual Rights

Posted by Julie Ranson on under How | Be the First to Comment

declarationI’ve noticed a particular theme in the statements and signs of those so-called “right-wing extremists” (also known as, domestic terrorists, wingnuts, astroturf, among other pejoratives). Posters that declare “Hands Off My Healthcare,” “Socialism isn’t Cool,” and “No New Taxes” speak of the American’s understanding of freedom and individual rights. Our capitalist system is founded upon the individual’s right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” which translates a variety of ways within the American community – economic wealth and personal freedoms among them.

The website, Capitalism.org, describes the role of government in a capitalist society quite simply… and, please note, narrowly.

“A proper government’s only responsibility is to protect the rights of the individual, by banning the initiation of force, thus making all relations between men peaceful, i.e., free from the threat of violence and fraud.”

As James Madison said, “if men were angels, we would need no government.” So, how does a government protect these individual rights and promote a peaceful existence among men and women? It passes laws. It uses police and the courts to carry out this duty. An army is required to prevent us from foreign invasion. There ends the role of government in a capitalist society.

“In a free society each and every man lives under a rule of law, as opposed to a whim-ridden rule of men. It has only one purpose: to protect the rights of the smallest minority that has ever existed – the individual……..(Emphasis added.) Read more of this article »

John McCain and the Destruction of the Republican Party

Posted by Larry Miller on October 7, 2009 under How | Read the First Comment

JohnMcCainIt seems the Senator John McCain is not satisfied with his glorious second place finish in last November’s election and the massive losses of the party that rode his coattails to defeat. Undeterred by by his rejection by both the right and the left, he is pushing forward with his plans to remake the party in his own image. It is one way to justify the approach he used by spreading it throughout the entire Republican system… or it may just be revenge on those in the party who never really accepted his “moderate” candidacy.

There are many in the mushy middle of the party quietly cheering him on in his attempts to render irrelevant the conservative base of the party and the religious influence, in particular. His campaign manager Steve Schmidt commented about Sarah Palin, “I think that she has talents, but my honest view is that she would not be a winning candidate for the Republican candidate in 2012, and in fact, were she to be the nominee, we would have a catastrophic election result.” And Mr. Schmidt knows catastrophic election results!

The question is why do we even listen to these people? And why do we give them credibility and the time of day? We have McCain’s cohort Lindsey Graham, who has stood shoulder to shoulder with him as they threw both their party and the country under the bus time after time, chime in with, “I think he’s endorsed people with center-right politics because he has an understanding that the party is in trouble with certain demographics and wants to have a tone that would allow us to grow.” However, it is interesting to contemplate just who Senators Graham and McCain see as center-right from their point of view… people like California’s Meg Whitman who was quoted as saying “Van Jones is doing a marvelous job.” With Republicans like this, we don’t need Democrats to destroy our country! It Is Going To Be A Rocky Road

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on October 5, 2009 under How, Why | Be the First to Comment

persecutionLet’s face it: most Americans live in a world of false security. This is somewhat understandable, given the fact that the majority of the U.S. population was born after 1945. Few remember the dangers and hardships of World War II; fewer still remember the Great Depression. Few Americans know what it’s like to not have some sort of “supercenter” nearby with shelves stocked with every kind of food imaginable, twenty-four hours a day. Few know what life was like before there were restaurants of all sizes and types on virtually every street corner in America. And only a handful remembers when most roads were unpaved, or when sports were truly a pastime and not a megabuck obsession.

Modern living within the world’s only “superpower” has created a giant unsuspecting, soft, lackadaisical, and lethargic society. We expect the government to keep our streets safe, our roads paved, our stores stocked, our jobs secure, and our enemies at bay. However, in the desire to make government the panacea for all our problems, we have sold not only our independence, but also our virtue.

Where the federal government was contracted (via the U.S. Constitution) to accept limited power for the overall good of both states and people, it has become a monster of gargantuan proportions, claiming authority over virtually every liberty and right known to man. And in the process, it decided it didn’t need God, either.

It is no hyperbole to say that the U.S. federal government has been on a “Ban God” bandwagon for the past 50 years. Whether it kicks prayer and Bible reading out of school, bars military chaplains from praying in Jesus’ name, burns Bibles in Iraq, removes state supreme court chief justices from their positions for posting the Ten Commandments, or threatens high school principals with jail for asking the blessing, the federal government has invoked the judgment of Heaven upon our country as surely as did Old Testament Israel. What About The Poor?

Posted by Larry Miller on under How | Be the First to Comment

poverty2I read an article this weekend about one man’s struggles to come to a truly “Christian” perspective to public life, welfare and government. There are people calling themselves Christians who have fallen right in line with the President and are pushing him to turn our health care system into a government run operation as they believe it is the fairest way to make sure everyone gets the care they need. Others, equally sincere are fighting this expansion of government tooth and nail. Who is right… and why would I come to that conclusion?

There is no easy answer to this question and to come to either conclusion without serious soul searching, investigation and prayer is to short change the gravity of the decisions implications. The ripples emanating from this choice extend to all areas of our lives. Do we treat our fellow men as physical or spiritual beings… when there are aspects of both in our total existence.

Many Catholic priests ventured into South American countries and saw the poverty of the peasants and the various injustices inflicted on them by the wealthy landowners. They thought they could eradicate poverty by eradicating sin… primarily the sin of the capitalists exploiting the poor. Forsaking their mandate to meet the spiritual needs of the people in their charge, they undertook to bring about a change in the social structure through a philosophy that came to be known as liberation theology. Many variations stemmed from this school of thought, including the black liberation theology espoused by Barack Obama’s pastor and spiritual advisor Jeremiah Wright. Read more of this article »

Patrick Henry on the Bill of Rights

Posted by Larry Miller on October 1, 2009 under Why | 2 Comments to Read

henryOn Monday, June 16, 1788, Patrick Henry made the following speech on the floor of the Virginia Ratifying Convention in support of the addition of the the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution. Now… all we have to do is get the people in Washington to respect it.

*****************************************

Mr. Chairman, the necessity of a bill of rights appears to me to be greater in this government than ever it was in any government before. I have observed already, that the sense of the European nations, and particularly Great Britain, is against the construction of rights being retained which are not expressly relinquished. I repeat, that all nations have adopted this construction — that all rights not expressly and unequivocally reserved to the people are impliedly and incidentally relinquished to rulers, as necessarily inseparable from the delegated powers. It is so in Great Britain; for every possible right, which is not reserved to the people by some express provision or compact, is within the king’s prerogative. It is so in that country which is said to be in such full possession of freedom. It is so in Spain, Germany, and other parts of the world. Let us consider the sentiments which have been entertained by the people of America on this subject. At the revolution, it must be admitted that it was their sense to set down those great rights which ought, in all countries, to be held inviolable and sacred. Virginia did so, we all remember. Roman-PolanskiA couple of recent news stories show us that we are seeing less of a concern for the welfare of children today than when we had people in Washington more in tune with traditional American values. One is official policy and one is just an indication of the degradation public values. Does this reflect what average Americans are thinking, or just what the elites who have wormed their way into positions of power and influence want us to believe?

The first story was all over the news a few days ago. Sharon Tate’s husband and film director Roman Polanski was finally taken into custody some thirty years after drugging and raping a thirteen year old girl at the home of Jack Nicholson, then fleeing the country. The amoral (or immoral – take your pick) Hollywood crowd has been quite vocal in their outrage at this attempt to bring him to justice. They say it’s been so long… just let the guy alone. Therefore the rules that would govern Joe the Plumber don’t apply to people of his quality. We have seen this with the treatment of Ted Kennedy after the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, O.J. Simpson and so many others. It’s as if, when you attain a certain status, people recognize you have too much to loose and they are not willing to take it from you. Brad Paisley nails this thinking in his “Celebrity” video. (http://bizy.be/ZTLkM) Never mind the shattered life of a young girl who cried herself to sleep at night.

jenningsThen, the story that’s been ignored by the state media – that of the appointment of Kevin Jennings as the “safe schools czar” – officially the director of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools . The man is an open homosexual blatantly advocating a pro-homosexual agenda in the past and proclaiming his intention to continue in his new position. Even setting aside his personal practices, his past actions as a school teacher should disqualify him from the job. He still tells the story of a fifteen year old student who revealed to him that he was meeting older men in restrooms for sex… AND HE DID NOTHING! Read more of this article »
