Without Works?
James 2:20 tells us that “faith without works is dead”. What this means is that whatever we believe only has meaning if we put action to our beliefs. Years ago I had a preacher tell me that you only act on things you really believe. The point of both was twofold: first, that you only act on what you actually accept as reality, and second, that if you are not acting on some information, you probably don’t really believe it… or at least you don’t take it seriously enough to leave your comfort zone.
Many people reading this believe this country is heading in the wrong direction. Many believe destroying our entire health care system in favor of a government run health care plan because of the approximately fifteen million legitimately uninsured is a foolish move – that there are better ways to handle the situation. Many are concerned about the plethora of czars, advisors and cabinet members that aid the President in pushing our country into the hands of the radical left.
Now comes the hard part. So many people, in their frustration think there’s not much they can do and either sit at home, watching FoxNews as their blood pressure soars or they huddle together with others like themselves, whining and complaining about how bad things are and how much worse they are going to be. Neither choice will help the situation. Neither choice will stop our nation’s downward slide or make a better world for our children.
If the tea parties and the recent gathering in Washington have shown us anything at all, it is that we are not alone. Many of us feel the same concern and see the same problems in our country. There is no reason to stew in our own juices, or gather in impotent pity parties. There are plenty of people to join hands with and help preserve our wonderful country.
Check out the local 912 groups, or a local patriots group. Write letters – to you newspapers and representatives. But don’t stop there. Call them, camp out at their offices – let them know you will be heard. Look at what you are good at what you like to do. All sorts of skills are needed in the battle to preserve our freedom. If you can write, write. If you can work with video, make videos. If you can open your home and enjoy hosting, host a group, or a fund raiser / meet ‘n greet for a solid candidate. Make phone calls or knock on doors for them. Perhaps you may be the one to run for office yourself.
The point is action will get the job done, whining will not. Even with your skills, you may think you have little to contribute. Pick an issue or two that you feel strongly about. You have libraries and you have the internet. It would only take a few weeks to become a functional authority on most any topic. You would know more than the average person (and average legislator for that matter) and be able to make a strong argument for your case and help convince others of the justice of your cause.
It’s been said that there are people who make things happen, people who watch things happen and people who don’t know what’s happening. Be one of the first. None of us can do everything, but we can all do something. If we all work together, we can all share in the joy of victory and, better yet, we will have saved the country for our children and ourselves… or we can becomes slaves to an overreaching and authoritarian government.
