Navy Removes Restrictions on Navy Moms’ Religious Speech

Washington, DC – The Navy has announced new Community Guidelines, removing its restrictions on religious speech on its Navy for Moms website. This change is in response to a letter Liberty Counsel sent to Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, demanding an end to religious discrimination and reinstatement of users’ free speech rights on the website. In its response letter to Liberty Counsel, Navy Admiral J. F. Kilkenny wrote, “I have instructed my staff to remove the current restrictions on religious and political debate. The goal of the revised guidelines is to allow for more open discussion without compromising the purpose of the website….”

ObamaCare – The Forbidden Chart

Interestingly the most open and transparent administration in history which controls the Franking Commission has given us another example of just how open and transparent they really are. For those not familiar with it, the franking privilege permits members of congress to send mail to constituents at taxpayer expense. From it’s own website, The Franking Commission “has a three fold mandate: (1) to issue regulations governing the proper use of the franking privilege; (2) to provide guidance in connection with mailings; (3) to act as a quasi-judicial body for the disposition of formal complaints against Members of Congress who have allegedly violated franking laws or regulations.”

Right out of Saul Alinsky’s playbook… working within the system to destroy it, the commission has begun censoring material sent to constituents by Republicans. Having gained pretty much complete control of the house functioning, they are flexing their muscles and squeezing out negative information whenever they can find it. They objected to the chart above which outlines the complexity of the proposed plan as well as references to “government run health care”. It is understood that there still is no final version of the bill so some of the boxes may be shuffled as the “majority party”, which they prefer to be called, engages in power struggles to see which illegitimate departments get the most influential positions.

For the most part, the main stream media has pretty much ignored the situation or, at best, treated it as an isolated instance. What they fail, or refuse, to see is that the current administration is consistently doing its’ best to control the information citizens get which, in turn, heavily influences their opinions. Romans Chapter 13 Revisited

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on July 28, 2009 under How | 5 Comments to Read

constitutionIt seems that every time someone such as myself attempts to encourage our Christian brothers and sisters to resist an unconstitutional or otherwise reprehensible government policy, we hear the retort, “What about Romans Chapter 13? We Christians must submit to government. Any government. Read your Bible, and leave me alone.” Or words to that effect.

No doubt, some who use this argument are sincere. They are only repeating what they have heard their pastor and other religious leaders say. On the other hand, let’s be honest enough to admit that some who use this argument are just plain lazy, apathetic, and indifferent. And Romans 13 is their escape from responsibility. I suspect this is the much larger group, by the way.

Nevertheless, for the benefit of those who are sincere (but obviously misinformed), let’s briefly examine Romans Chapter 13. I quote Romans Chapter 13, verses 1 through 7, from the Authorized King James text:

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.” Read more of this article »

The Tragedy of Professor Henry Gates

Posted by Larry Miller on July 27, 2009 under How | 3 Comments to Read

Listen to Henry Gates Jr. tell you in his own words about his views on race relations. Then you can judge for yourselves if his friend Barack Obama had good cause to assume he was an innocent victim of prejudiced police stupidity. Both 911 and police communication show no racial component to the discussions. Most of us would be happy police followed up on a break in report… particularly regarding our own homes.

Sure I might have been a bit annoyed after breaking my own door, but simply showing a photo ID would have ended the situation quickly… which would have been my goal so I could go about my business. However we tend to see situations through our own filters and expectations. Dr. Gates apparent expectation that Sgt. Crowley fit the profile of the head cracking racist cop from the bad old days just itching to bash his head with a nightstick. Which brings up the question of why he would continue to harass the officer after he had proven the home was his and no crime had been committed.

It seems rather odd that one would continue to harang someone, who in your mind, despised you and was carrying a gun, billy club and a badge. This does not make sense. However, as I’m sure many of Dr. Gates own ancestors experienced, there are times when disgust and hatred is so strong that it overrides common sense and the persons own welfare… to their own detriment. It’s just one more example of how hate can hurt the one doing the hating as much, if not more, than the object of the hatred.

In some ways, both Henry Gates Jr and his friend Barack Obama are tragic figures, locked into their own prejudices from the past and what they’ve learned that they cannot see that so many Americans have moved past the idea of looking first at the color of a man’s skin. While not fully realized, we have made great strides toward Martin Luther King Jr’s. goal of having people judged on the content of their character. But they are so locked up in the old model that they cannot see this.

Sure there are those who would hate both men based on their skin color, but they are part of a shrinking minority. Beside this, in my experience, the ones most likely to look down on someone for this reason are the ones who have the least reason to look down on anyone. It’s time we all give up the this kind of petty thinking… even those who wish the comfort of clinging to past hurts. We need to keep in mind the words of Dr. King who came through times when black churches were firebombed and white toughs would drive through black neighborhoods just looking for someone to beat up, when he told us “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

bagpipersFirst of all, let’s make it clear that this is not a commercial for Nike. In fact you can wear almost any kind of footwear and take advantage of the ideas discussed here. However, as the phrase tells us, there are times when you just have to set aside personal hang ups, fears and lack of confidence and quit waiting for someone else to get things done. In the Richmond area this weekend we saw the folks that pulled off the Richmond Tea Party put together an event that attracted up to two thousand people who love their country and are looking to see how they can help.

Most of these people were either never politically active or had dropped out of the effort sometime in years past. They were not professional organizers, political, community or otherwise. Yet they pulled together representatives from around fifteen organizations, attract a couple thousand people and television coverage. They filled the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds with organizational displays, food vendors, games for the children and even a couple of dunking booths for the older children.

These average citizens found themselves pulled form their yard work, honey do lists, even time from their jobs and businesses. What pulled them away from the more mundane tasks that occupy most of us? Most likely it was the same thing that thing that caused you to begin reading this post… a recognition that things are not right in our wonderful country, and a desire to set them so. Let It Come!

henryDuring Patrick Henry’s famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech, he said the following:

“Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst and to provide for it.”

Later in his historic speech Henry said, “Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, Sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, Sir, is not to the strong alone. It is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, Sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable. And let it come! I repeat it, Sir, let it come!” Read more of this article »

The “Facts” About ObamaCare

Posted by Larry Miller on July 23, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

doctorI spent what could have been a perfectly good evening watching Barack Hussein Obama lay out some of the information about his proposed health care for the masses plan. While he talked for almost an hour, he gave out little real information. It is entirely possible he believed every word of it. What is unfortunate is that most of what we learned has no relationship to reality.

Somewhere around the fourth or fifth exit in fantasy land was the claim that the health insurance plan would not add to the deficit. The total cost, we were told, would be covered by cost cutting and re-allocation of existing federal health care programs. If we could just have an example of this ever working with a government program the assertion may actually have some credibility. It reminds me of the old saying “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice (or thirty seven times), shame on me”. One has to wonder why, if they have identified that much waste already, it is not being squeezed out of the system now… unless that waste lies in delivering care to those deemed unworthy of the expense.

The president is determined that the cost of health care will not be thrust onto the backs of middle class families. Now, let’s think about this. Who makes up most of the population and who will use most of the health care? At least at this point, our country is made up primarily of middle class families. Why should they not pay for their health insurance? And where are all the temporarily rich people that will actually pay for this? There just aren’t that many… so where will the money come from? Ah yes… from the re-allocation from other government programs like Medicare which, while far from perfect, is something many have come to depend on. Read more of this article »

The Obamessiah’s Waterloo

Posted by Larry Miller on July 22, 2009 under How | Be the First to Comment

Many years ago, Stonewall Jackson, the country singer, not the southern general, popularized the song, Waterloo. It told the story of, not only, Napoleon, but of other ill-fated characters and with each one it illustrated how their own actions sowed the seeds of their own destruction. The same is true of President Obama. He is pushing hard to get two major pieces of legislation passed quickly because he knows it will not happen later in his term of office.

If we keep on spreading the truth, letting people know what is going on, we have an opportunity to stop the Obamessiah. Sure it may be easier after people see their heating bills “skyrocket”, to use the man’s own term and their Medicare go away in favor of a rationed plan. However none of us really want to see our country go through this gut-wrenching process. We must tell our story in a way that shows we are right and the statists are wrong. We must pursue freedom with passion and with clarity so as to bring along those who sense something is wrong, but can’t quite articulate it and don’t know what to do.

Dick Morris has some vary good points about shooting down cap and trade as well as socialized health care. While we are still looking at four years of pretty miserable conditions, it is possible that with six months of concentrated effort we can successfully neuter this president and thwart many of his plans for us. It is imperative that his momentum be stopped as the first step in turning the corner and heading back to a free society. Read more of this article »

We Don’t Get No Respect!

obamaThis past weekend, those who were watching honest reporting saw some headlines reflecting the esteem our country and our president commands throughout the world. What is interesting is that the man sitting in the oval office, along with his party, roundly criticized what they perceived to be George Bush’s heavy handed approach to foreign affairs… vowing to bring about a new era of respect and respectability.

It is reported that Israeli ambassador Michael Oren was summoned to the State Department.* He was told that a building project being developed by an American investor in east Jerusalem must not go forward as it interfered with their plans for regional peace. The State Department sought to forbid any Jewish development on captured lands in an attempt to draw boundaries more satisfactory to the Palestinians.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the attempted land use demand by commenting, “I can only imagine what would happen if someone suggested Jews could not live in certain neighborhoods in New York, London, Paris or Rome. There would certainly be a major international outcry.” This new construction is part of his plan for a unified Jerusalem. It is surprising that he took no public offense at the treatment of his ambassador as some lackey from a client state… however, it appears that he is focused on what is best for his country and not on petty one upsmanship. The Billings Murders

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on July 19, 2009 under Why | 3 Comments to Read

billingsBy now, most Americans are familiar with the horrific murder of a Pensacola, Florida, couple by the name of Byrd and Melanie Billings. They were the parents of 17 children, 13 of whom were adopted–most of whom had disabilities. This case hits home with me, because they lived in my hometown of Pensacola. I did not know them personally, but they were fairly well known around town. Byrd was a well-to-do businessman who owned a used car business and financial loan service.

Byrd and Melanie were shot to death in their own home a week ago Thursday. So far, eight people have been arrested in the case: seven men and one woman. The seven men are each charged with two open counts of murder, and the woman is charged with accessory to murder after the fact. Law enforcement officials said yesterday that at least one more “person of interest” is being sought.

The Billings murder case was broken open by the fact that their home was equipped with a surveillance system, which recorded the vehicle used to transport the murderers to the home and probably much of the criminal activity inside the house, although the sheriff’s office has not released the video of what was recorded inside the house. The video of the van led police to the suspects. Our State Attorney, Bill Eddins, says that all of the perpetrators who actively took part in the shootings are in custody. At least five of the men were inside the house when the murders took place; and police said the killers were in and out of the house in four minutes. Read more of this article »

Arise and Go Forth!

I spent the last two days fasting. On day two I listened to worship music all day as I cleaned house. I kept my heart focused on the Lord’s presence. I went to bed exhausted and fell fast asleep but only for a short while. Something was stirring in my spirit. I woke up about three hours later and received this word from the Lord.

****************************

Arise, My people! Bring forth the full force of the power I have placed within you.
I am calling My army forth. I am strengthening My people for the days ahead. The enemy knows his time is very short but he is on a short leash and he and his minions are no match for My army.

Oh, sure he is giving it all he has got but it will not overcome My true warriors. I have stationed My champions at all strategic points throughout this nation and all the nations of My universe. Read more of this article »

Still Some Good In This Old Country

Posted by Larry Miller on July 16, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

Yesterday afternoon, I watched the shuttle Endeavour blasting off into space. It had been a while since I paid much attention to the space program. Like most Americans, in spite of the few tragic failures, we take for granted the flawless perfection of a NASA operation. After all, they are a bunch of rocket scientists. The whole thing was most impressive… four million pounds lifting off the earth and seconds later traveling at well over 11,000 miles per hour. I was thinking John Force, eat your heart out. Anyone not impressed by both the brute force of six million pounds of thrust and the split-second precision of this take off is just not paying attention.

It got me thinking back to that day in May of 1961 when we filed into the junior high school auditorium to watch Alan Shepard take that first brief wild ride on the top of a rocket into space. Now it does not seem like much, but then, without the experience and technology of 2009 it was quite a feat. No American had ever done this before and it was less than a month since Russian, Yuri Gagarin had become the first man in space.

September 12 of the next year saw President Kennedy tell the people of the world that there would be an American standing on the moon by the end of the decade. July 20, 1969 my wife and I brought our second child home from the hospital and that night saw grainy pictures of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin plant an American flag and leave American footprints on the surface of the moon. The Mad Scientist And The White House

Posted by Larry Miller on July 15, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

holdrenDuring his inaugural address, Barack Hussein Obama promised “We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost,” This was in part, to counter what he perceived to be excessive deference to religious influences by the previous administration. At the time it was difficult to tell if he was embracing one and or simply rejecting the other.

The selection of John Holdren as the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy helps put the purpose into much sharper focus. If Holdren were simply a wild eyed academic, the damage he could inflict would be limited to the destruction of a relatively few impressionable minds behind ivy covered walls. But he is not… and the damage is incalculable if he is permitted to inflict his thinking on our whole country.

What is this thinking? How can we know what is going on in the demented mind of John Holdren. He has over the years had published hundreds of papers and articles and co-authored twenty books. These give a pretty clear picture of a man who appears to have watched far too many science fiction movies as a child.

These were the wonderful old black and white movies we saw on Saturday afternoons, such as The Monolith Monsters and Day of the Triffids. In these B movies… maybe even C movies, the problems facing humanity were almost as awful as their special effects. It was only through the lone, virtuous scientist that the earth was saved every time. I enjoyed those films myself but they could produce a warped vision of science versus the unwashed masses. Good For Nothing Christians

Posted by Chuck Baldwin on July 14, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

preacher“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matt. 5:13 KJV)

Jesus said that salt without savor is “good for nothing.” Savor is the ingredient, the character that gives salt its quality–and its value. When salt is as it should be, it is a most precious commodity. Not only is it used as a seasoning; it is, more importantly, a preservative. As most everyone knows, salt was the primary source of food preservation before the days of refrigeration. Salt has been deemed to be so valuable at times that wars have actually been waged over it. During times of unusual deprivation, salt can be even more valuable than precious metals. But when salt loses its saltiness, it is absolutely worthless; it is “good for nothing.”

Jesus plainly proclaimed that He viewed His disciples as being the salt of society. In other words, when believers have the character they should have, they provide the preservation of the land. They hold back and retard the putrefying properties of spoilage and decay. But when Christians lose their character, when they lose the internal resistance to decay, they become “good for nothing” and the result is, the land is “trodden under foot of men.”

It grieves me to say that, for the most part, the modern Christian, the modern pastor, and the modern church have lost their savor. Taken as a whole, we have lost our inner character: the ability to resist decay and preserve the land has long departed, and America is fast being “trodden under foot of men.” Read more of this article »

Sic Semper Tyrannis

Posted by Larry Miller on July 13, 2009 under Why | Be the First to Comment

320px-seal_of_virginiasvg“Sic Semper Tyrannis”, thus reads the phrase at the bottom of the seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Translated, it means “thus always to tyrants.” Above it is an image of Virtue, sword in hand and a foot on the chest of the fallen Tyranny with his crown laying nearby. The symbolism is obvious: that virtue will triumph over oppression. Those of us who have read the Bible through to the end understand this will be the ultimate outcome. That is the ultimate outcome… but what about now?

The motto was suggested at the Virginia Convention in 1776 by George Mason… then placed in the official state seal designed by Declaration of Independence signer, George Wythe. This was at a time when the commonwealth and our fledgling nation were locked in a struggle for survival and independence from the British crown. The Declaration phrased it, “appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions”, meaning that they were looking for divine assistance in their struggle for freedom.

This struggle was one that they understood to be theirs… that they were not just depending on the righteousness of their cause being sufficient for success. These founding fathers knew they had to put forth the effort and endure the pain and hardship of their course… but they also knew that they had the force of natural law, the desire for freedom and their creator on their side.
