If one believes that our God and the Bible have things to say about all areas of our lives, we see that there are plenty of issues that we should speak up about. Some are obvious like abortion and gay marriage. Others are more tangential, but still impact the lives of our fellow citizens... and if we are truly our brothers keeper, we have a responsibility to see that he is treated fairly.

You might be thinking, "Wow, that covers about every area of life." Well, yeah, being a Christian applies to every area of life... everything we touch, if we are serious about it. But then, so does politics. The leaders we select make a difference in our lives, but not just our lives, the lives of everyone in the country... the world even.
Because of this, not for our own well being, but for the well being of everyone... for the weak, the innocent who have no voice. we who can, need to speak up when there is corruption, or when taxpayers money is wasted, when promised services are not delivered or when the legitimate needs of the community are ignored for the benefit of special interets.
Where do these things happen? Unfortunately at every level of government. You don't have to head on out to Washington or even your state capitol. In some ways local government has the greatest impact on the everyday lives of your fellow citizens. It could well be the place that needs the salt and light of your Christian involvement.
